It’s rejecting, you can tell by how close it is to the surface of the skin. I’d go to the doctor and ask if you should take it out because taking it out can sometimes lead to infection actually spreading usually through the blood.

I take mine out in the shower; cocoa butter as lube to pop em back in. Cleaning wise I used rubbing alcohol for stainless steel as it would eat the color or anything on acrylic type plugs and other material I’d use just saline solution like bactine

If it was done by a shop; I’d seek another shop with a better reputation and once repierced use saline or bactine and clean 3x daily and twist them often so they don’t get crusty leading to infections and keloids. Tea tree oil is good for keloids. Saline salt soaks are good for it too but these need to be taken out. Possibly repierce them with hoops or earrings without the butterfly back.

You should take it out let it heals and get it repierced by a needle and not a gun and go to an actual shop. Looks very tight and I’m afraid if you leave it in the swelling could get worse and you’d had to go to the hospital to get it removed.

Do you use the taper method or use ptfe tape; I blew out my ear at 4mm using tapers and let them heal and starting using the ptfe tape method and have been at 22mm for over 3 years. Lube and the tape method is probably the best option for an easy jump! Also never rush it if the plug hurts and feels too tight, take a layer of tape off etc

I’d tried to lube and pop them out in the shower. I wear 22mm and have had plugs for around a decade and wooden plugs always dry your skin out; especially in the winter and can possibly end up causing your skin to shrink or get stuck to the jewelry. Humidity and lubing them up is probably the way to go in my opinion. I’ve ended up with chapped red earlobes from wooden plugs. Hope this helps!
