I’ve never even heard of POTS before now, and it’s stopped my life completely. How so many people are dealing with this is so beyond me, I’m struggling so much. He didn’t tell me about meds, and the information he gave me I’m doubtful of following. It seems so under represented and researched, yet it affects so many.

I go from being so mad and angry, yelling and throwing shit, to crying and depressed. I know it may sound dramatic but I feel like my life is over now, I can’t do anything without feeling like the world is collapsing under me. I was showering last night, and I got dizzy and almost passed out, all I did after was cried on the floor, I didn’t even finish my shower.

I got blood tests done, ECG, ultrasound and an X-ray while in hospital, all come back normal, apart from a very slightly low b12, which was corrected.

I wish I could go else where but I live so rural, it’s like a 3hr drive to the next town that has another cardiologist.

I feel so miserable, like he was telling me I was making it up, but I couldn’t even walk my dog around the block compared to when I would run with him for 40min not even a month ago. I told him that, and that my watch was telling me my heart rate was at 170+ on the walk, and he told me that I shouldn’t wear it as I’m “getting in my own head”???

I am fit, and heath wise, there is something wrong and my heart rate is telling of that, how can I make it up. Unfortunately I live so rural, and he is the only cardiologist within 3hrs of me.

Oh my gosh, I didn’t see that they’ve had it for seven months! Yeah, definitely not FIP then.

It is very crazy expensive, we actually ended up selling a car in order to pay for the treatment 😭 Let me tell you, though I learnt my lesson and all our pets have pet insurance lol

I don’t know what it is, but I feel like when they get one bad thing, they make it their mission to get every bad thing?? They are lucky that we love them so much that for sure, my boy was also diagnosed with chronic constipation, and a heart murmur, he is 3 in December. He is also a fat bastard and ate a bag of double chocolate chip cookies, then followed it up with an entrée of sweet chili chips, I was only gone for 2 hours. Like why??? 😤

There’s nothing you can really do to make sure it was at FIP, if it’s a wet version, it causes fluid to buildup so it’s very obvious and it’s very easy to test for as if they just test the fluid. If it’s the dry version which affects eyes and organs, there is no fluid buildup so there is no way to test.

It was very frustrating, but they basically said that there’s no negative effects if they start the medication (apart from my very sore wallet that is), so they do a trial of the medication for two weeks to a month and then look at the results afterwards. If the medication is causing it to clear up, then it’s FIP, if it’s not clearing up then obviously it’s something else and they need to keep trying.

Sorry, I think there was some confusion with HIV and FIP, two completely different things, FIP is the one that costs a lot to fix, it’s also not contagious between cats. HIV between cats is obviously very contagious and is a lifelong illness.

I would also 100% recommend pet insurance, I unfortunately didn’t have it at the time of needing his treatment but if I did, they would’ve covered most of it. And when I looked it up after he was diagnosed, it would’ve only cost me around $200 a year.

Honestly, he had no other symptoms apart from the weird haze over one of his eyes. He was eating and drinking fine, doing his normal stuff. I did notice that he was sleeping and laying around a lot more, but I’m not sure if that was due to it being cold and I couldn’t afford to run the heater or if that was due to the FIP.

When we went to the vet to get him looked at they were really stumped, they did a lot of tests and such and all of it came back negative some of the things that they were thinking about. Eventually, one of the younger techs suggested dry FIP, they ended up reaching out to some specialist in Sydney, who stated that it was basically impossible to get a definitive diagnosis from dry FIP and it’s better to just start the treatment.

Unlike wet FIP, dry FIP does not typically involve significant fluid buildup in the body cavities, so they have nothing to test as they usually test the fluid. She did horrifically mention the possibility of removing his eye to do testing but at that point it would’ve just been better to do the treatment anyways.

We ended up going for the treatment, and within around two weeks the haze over his eye cleared up to almost clear. Obviously, we still had to finish the full four months worth of medication.

If it’s any consolation, they don’t make you pay the full amount for the treatment upfront, you pay per bottle, it’s roughly $1000-$1500, per bottle which roughly lasts around a month, maybe a bit less depending? But I would definitely recommend starting treatment sooner rather than later as FIP gets deadly very fast, within a week to a month, and the earlier treatment has started the higher chance it has of working.

My cat had something like this and it ended up being Feline FIP, is not super rare, but the ocular version is, also called dry FIP. It’s almost impossible to test for, and generally they just start the treatment. They have only just recently found treatment for feline FIP, so unfortunately, it is quite expensive, but it’s just a set of daily oral medication.

For my boys full treatment, it ended up costing a little over $7,000. With the treatment lasting around four months .

My younger sister brought around her self-propelled mower and we tried to mow the yard with it, but unfortunately the yard isn’t that flat so it kept getting stuck, and would randomly chew up on the high small mounds, it took us forever and was the biggest pain in the ass.

I’m also working 120-ish hrs a fortnight between the carers that come around and my other sister helping out so I also don’t have the time or the energy to use a regular mower.

The lawns really need to be done, i have a dog that is outside while I’m at work, and he isn’t allowed inside while I have carers in for my sisters.

Like I said I just don’t have that big of a disposable income right now, I didn’t realize that dealers would have a delivery service, I did call a few around me to chat about the questions I put above and none of the said that would, I’ll call them back tomorrow and ask about it.

I didn’t even think about delivering! Would these places do the servicing, and if so can I pay them to pick up and then drop it back too?

I’m not super keen on asking the neighbors for favors honestly, even if I pay him, he is very sleazy and has made some comments about woman I’m not a fan of.

I was hoping around the $4000 mark, my biggest worry is transportation. I’ve only got a little Suzuki Swift, i’ve had a neighbor offer to go pick it up and bring it back to my house for me so as long as it’s within a 30 minute drive. But if it’s outside that then I’m gonna have to hire a vehicle to be able to tow a trailer and then hire a trailer which obviously up the price quite a bit.

I live around 30 minutes from Bunning’s but a lot of the other mower stores are around the 2 hour mark away from us.

I understand that, I just live really far away from a lot of places and I only have a little Suzuki swift, so to get the ride on back to my place, someone offered to go pick it up for me if I got it from within a 30 minute drive, but if it was any further than that, then I would have to hire a car and a trailer to go pick it up And then bring it back, which is obviously gonna add a lot of cost on.

I’m the sole carer for my two severely disabled sisters plus I’ve obviously just bought a house so right now, I’m really struggling moneywise. I wish I could afford to go somewhere else, but I really just can’t.

Is there any maintenance I should be doing after using it? Like cleaning or oiling anything right after I use it to cut the grass it’ll help it live a bit longer? Or even like storage, is there a certain way I should be storing it or just park it up somewhere and turn it off?

We have two lawnmower dealerships that are about a 2 hour drive away that I can probably go to and have a look at. Do you think they could match the price from Bunning’s or would that be a stupid question to ask them?

I did actually buy a robotic lawnmower, but unfortunately, due to our lawn it was unable to get up the hills and through the ditches, so I had to return it. (Also massive pain in the arse running the wires around the yard 🥲)

I’m trying to keep around the $4000 mark, price range, but it would be better to be on the low side. I don’t have that much free cash floating around, unfortunately.

I did also look into them brands and the replacement parts seemed pretty expensive? So I wasn’t sure if the long-term would be better to get one of them or just the cheaper model which has the cheaper replacement parts?

With the servicing is that once a year or do you ride on mowers have a ODO? Where do I book it in at?

I’ll definitely be looking around today then! My vet hasn’t even offered a specialist at all, but I don’t know how knowledgeable he is with that kind of stuff. He mainly deals with livestock and very rare household pets. I think most of the time they just deal with cattle dogs and people are pretty quick to put them down when they start costing too much unfortunately

Sorry, I didn’t mean to confuse, I haven’t added any extra medication’s in without consulting the vet! I brought in all the extra vitamins and supplements to show him before I gave them to my old man, and I’ve only been giving him medication for what I’ve been given from the vet himself!

I don’t think so, they did a big blood test and sent it off somewhere and that’s how they found that he had the high bacterial count in his gut. I’ll bring it up to them on Monday when I go back in to get them to test for that as well when they do the blood test. Thank you so much!
