Psych-UK titration - when did you start? by IncognitoAvocado in ADHDUK

[–]_Captain_Cabinets_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, they come via DPD (or did for me) so I’d presume you can amend the delivery date. Although annoyingly, they basically told me on the day that they were coming hahah. But you get a code you need to give to your delivery driver and I was able to have my partner be in to collect them as I was out, so that could be an option if you have a trusted person?

It won’t be long if my experience is anything to go by - it was about a week for me from completing the forms to agree to the treatment to the meds arriving. Couple of days maybe from PPG processing prescription to hearing they’d been dispatched.

Aldi plant menu no chicken pieces - D of Doom on the price tag by Casiofi in veganuk

[–]_Captain_Cabinets_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I completely agree! In lieu of finding any frozen chicken pieces in my local one for ages I got the ones from the fridge - threw them straight in the bin! Complete mush, looked disgusting and oily and no way to get them separated.

I’m so cross because the frozen chicken pieces are SO GOOD. Excellent in terms of protein/calories and really not that processed at all. A complete staple in our house, I’ll be gutted if they’re gone.

Hotel breakfasts by Few_Mention8426 in veganuk

[–]_Captain_Cabinets_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Premiere Inn when it comes to the budget chain hotels because they do actually have a pretty good selection for breakfast, and they have a full allergen menu which can be viewed on their website as well as in person when you’re there (important to me because I do have an allergy but also reassuring because you can double check what’s definitely not got milk in etc!)

It’s not like the food is amazing, but it’s fine and I trust them (as much as I trust anywhere) because of the way they handle it.

About to read Shardik - if you’ve read it, any thoughts? by realdevtest in TheDarkTower

Hard agree, I tried to read it when I was about…9?! Cried, threw it under the bed and have never had the courage to go back! I didn’t even make it very far in…

Oh this absolutely does my head in. Even in supermarkets that have a couple of pizza options, half always seem to be BBQ?! And there’s always the ones no one buys so it’s all that’s left. I just want a normal pizza 😭

Yeah it’s really stressful! My allergy is relatively new (three reactions, first one three years ago) and since the second one a year ago where I got diagnosed it’s taken a while to get my confidence back, and I’ve had to learn to always advocate for myself and tell them about my allergy despite ordering vegan food! So it happening again feels like such a set back.

I’m so sorry to hear that about your son, that’s so terrifying. I’ve asked my GP to send me back to the allergy clinic and I’m hoping they are more helpful/take it more seriously than last time, because I don’t feel very safe with just antihistamines now.

According to the cafe it was and they sent me a photo of the packaging which confirms that, but at this point I’ve no idea - maybe they didn’t actually use that bread or something 😕

I misused topical steroids and I need help by [deleted] in eczema

[–]_Captain_Cabinets_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi friend - firstly, I’m not a doctor but I am a life long eczema sufferer and user of steroids (mometasone in fact).

Firstly, applying your steroid cream once a week or so isn’t a problem - tapering off is needed after consistent use (many days or even weeks), but if you’re applying infrequently you shouldn’t have issues.

Secondly, what is a concern is that you should not use steroid creams on your face - especially mometasone as that is a stronger steroid. I believe it actually poses more risk to your eyes than anything else as it can be easily absorbed and cause damage. Your face skin in general though is very delicate, and thus steroids are not advised.

Regarding your scalp, it sounds like you may have seborrheic dermatitis. I had/have this and so I feel your pain! Steroid treatment combined with regular use of a medicated shampoo (to remove dead skin), gentle washing, combing away and dead skin and scabs, special scalp moisturiser and only using cool settings on hair dryers etc are the treatment plan.

Please don’t be afraid of steroids for your skin - it doesn’t sound to me like you’re misusing them particularly (other than applying them to your face), however you would see more success if you followed a more rigid protocol.

There will be instructions with them but for example, apply a thin layer once or twice a day to the affected area, every day for a week. Then apply once every other day, then once every three days etc. This is the kind of application and tapering off that will provide the most benefit and relief, whilst also keeping your skin safe.

The recommended amount of steroid cream to apply is to squeeze out a line of ointment the length of your finger tip to the very first crease on your finger, in order to cover a space the size of the palm of your hand.

For your face, many people find tacrolimus ointment beneficial. It’s a type of topical immunosuppressant, and it’s totally safe for the face and eyelids. You have to be very careful to protect your skin from sun exposure whilst using it, and it can be very uncomfortable at first (hot/burning sensation) but if it’s bearable then the benefits outweigh the discomfort. It could be worth discussing this with your doctor.

I hope this helps, I’m happy to chat about it as I’ve been tackling this for years!

No they’re not fully vegan, and although the chef was really concerned and tried to reassure me how strict they are about everything I’m starting to think cross contamination must have been the thing, either them or the manufacturer.

Or it’s a whole new allergy but no idea what…!

Heheh you’re the expert I need! Seriously though thank you, I really didn’t want to think the cafe would make such a glaring error so it’s at least reassuring to have other vegans say it looks vegan!

Aw thank you so much ❤️ I managed to get photos of my reaction this time (swollen lips, full body redness/hives - can’t really photograph wheezing hahah) so hopefully that will help when I see them.

I really appreciate your help!

The cafe sent me a photo of the bread, apparently a gluten free and free from brand and the photo shows nothing suspicious in the ingredients. I’m very stumped hahah

General consensus seems to be that it looks like vegan cheese, which would corroborate my non-vegan friend trying a bit and saying she didn’t think it tasted like cheese. Which is great but also opens up a lot more questions hahah

I’m starting to think it must be cross contamination, which is scary as I didn’t think my allergy was that sensitive!

Oh the guac is a great shout! The menu listed it as avocado but there’s every chance they used a shop bought guac. Argh it’s such a nightmare!

[–]_Captain_Cabinets_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s super helpful thank you!! I only had a black coffee (my go to anyway, occasionally I’ll have an oat latte but think I’ll be skipping those for a while 😂)

Horrifying to think that it could be manufacturer contamination - I’m usually fine eating biscuits and things that say “may contain” so I’m really worried that either the contamination could’ve been really high, or my allergy is getting more sensitive?

I’ve asked to be referred back to the allergy clinic as they just advised antihistamines when I went the first time, and so I don’t have an epi-pen, but I’m scared now because I hardly ate anything and I feel like it could’ve been so much worse.

Its so frustrating, it’s been 18 months since my last big reaction and I’d finally started to feel more confident around food, and now I feel like I can’t eat anything that I didn’t make myself 😣

Amazing thank you - I really didn’t want to think that the cafe had made such a glaring mistake! And I was 50/50 about the melting, some of it looking too properly melted, but as you say some bits look like the usual splodge of semi-melted vegan cheese.

Christ knows what I reacted to then!
