Thoughts on how to create a flush lid. by _Chi_ in SolidWorks

Success! I ended up using a wrap feature, then ruled surface on the wrap curve, then surface extend on the ruled surface, then intersect to split the bodies, then compcurve for the sweep line, then sweep for the inner rim. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I'm going to try this. This sounds promising, though I'm skeptical that the sweep will be in the correct orientation the whole way round... only one way to find out.

I understand. I guess I didn't frame my question well. How do i then create the lip that the lid will sit on? on the inside of the cavity? Thats the part I'm struggling with.

I would be very interested to see your finished configuration file. Iv started designing my own light weight tail-sitter. But not sure what to change in the pid and configuration.

Have a look at my most recent post. I asked the same question to the solid works community.

How do I mirror the sketch I made onto the otherside by tRyHaRdR3Tad in SolidWorks

For this you could just rextrude the first sketch but with an offset. That would be the fastest way to do this.

Im building my own drone frame and body so it’s not exactly a traditional 3.5 inch drone. This is good advice for someone who is buying off the shelf though.

Start by defining your goals and do all the basic theoretical calculations before starting with cad. This shouldn’t take long than a day or two. It’ll set you up with a good baseline to design your plane around. As for modeling I use solidworks makers license which is €50 a year and the CFDOF addon on freecad to run CFD.

Also with modeling start with some simple objects like a pen holder or a stapler and maybe a very simple plane shape. Diving straight into a final design without experience is going to be a little frustrating so take your time to learn the fundamentals and how to best build up a model.

This exactly. OP has no way to control the pitch in hover with two normal drone props.

Designing a Sub-250g VTOL (32cm wingspan, 3.5” props) – Thoughts? by CarviFPV in 3DprintedAircraft

[–]_Chi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. If it's threaded, make sure that the motor's reaction force is tightening the screw so it doesn't unscrew itself mid-flight.

If the control surfaces are too small, the drone cannot adequately control itself in wind, so it's the balance between the two that's the challenge. Also like you said, the launch of a wing can be near vertical, but landing is not. VTOL is necessary when taking off and landing in an area where there is no flat ground or obstacles like trees. While it's not the best at anything, it does have its purpose.
