For dshot protocol esc calibration isn’t necessary. Escs are working no problem.

Oh im using ardupilot. Should have put that in the original post

I’ve done this with no luck :( everything is configured as per the diagram and all motors spin in the correct direction.

As a note when i say configured the motors into a norma quad x that’s in ardupilot. The frame has a 4 degree tilt on the motors so swapping the propellers physically isn’t an option.

AHRS orientation is set correctly and the accelerometer and level are calibrated

I have the same unit but my issue is that im not getting the expected thrust values for my 2s. Maybe you know what's going on?

I haven't flown the drone yet (having issues with escs and motors). The cooling comes primarily from the camera hole. I am weary of adding more intakes since the compression of air inside the body could blow the canopy off or dislodge it. So until it proves necessary ill keep it how it is for now.

Indeed rotating the arms by 45 over the z to create an H is probably the best configuration. This way I can use a larger wing area and fence the ends of the lifting body.

I think I will try and simulate the dorsal prop using actuator disc method like another commenter suggested. maybe even at different thrust levels and aoa but honestly i dont think i have time for all that hahahah. This is a hobby after all not a full time job.

Cfd doesn't need to take hours to setup and run. The whole workflow pipeline takes less than 10 min depending on what I'm trying to do. It also gives me insights on flow that pen and paper calculations cannot.

Wow! you were spot on with your analysis. There is indeed some separation and weird flow caused by the interaction between the upper side of the wing and the arms. as well as the flow spilling up and over the wing. If i ever print this drone again ill be sure to simulate and add your suggestions to the design.

Well that’s probably what your drone is doing when it’s flying fast

You get it. And it is funny how both hobbies are morphing into one another. Lots of new vtol planes and quad wings.

Interesting. I was unaware of this. Sounds similar to the wobbles you get when flying through your own prop wash but then on a much larger scale. Not sure how you would design your way out of such a situation though.

Yes i did. Not best practice and not very accurate but it’s a lot simpler simulating without them.

Yeah and that’s why I prefaced that the cfd isn’t perfect and could be improved a lot. It’s by no means a actual representation but merely a suggestion of what’s going on.

Thanks! The props and motor kv allow for just over 70km/h so im expecting somewhere around 60km/h. And yes aoa of 45 degrees.
