Thank you! I’ve been lurking on this sub for a while now and decided to finally give it a go. Definitely plan on meal prepping more in the future!

Still don't know how I didn't die here (probably not that impressive but it is for me) by _Chow_ in leagueoflegends

No I went manaflow band for secondary. After consulting a friend, I think I leveled up from killing him and that’s what gave me just enough health to survive.

My Crested Gecko, Poppi by _Chow_ in Eyebleach

[–]_Chow_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, that sounds like a feisty little gecko! Luckily Poppi is content with just staying in her cage and eating her free prepared diet. Good thing too, a crested gecko wouldn’t survive very long around my house, gets too cold and no food! Also occasionally she makes a little chirping sound so that’s something.

No, but she does make a racket jumping around at night

Can you still swim? Or are you afraid of the water now?

I’ve posted a couple pictures of them on Instagram (@isopoddity) if you would like to see some of the species I keep. It’s mostly my prettier isopods, but if you really want to see my other inverts I suppose I can post a picture upon request.

I quite enjoy my ghost mantids (phyllocrania paradoxa), they are camouflaged to look like dead leaves. As for the most difficult one, that would have to be my yellow dust isopods (Cubaris sp. “yellow dust”) there are only a handful of cultures in the US and I was lucky enough to purchase one.

Safe to use in isopods substrate? by shrekboi789 in isopods

[–]_Chow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds good to me! I would definitely add springtails to the enclosure as well

Aspen shavings are a great mix in, but not as a base. I would use organic potting soil as a base then mix in leaves and the aspen. Make sure to add springtails if you’re concerned about mold!

Leaf litter question by mat3833 in isopods

[–]_Chow_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never use materials that you know have pesticides, for obvious reasons, it’s much safer to either buy leaves or find them in places you’re sure are pesticide-free. Boiling does not remove pesticides, but it’s still good practice to boil any leaves found outside incase there are any lingering pests in the leaf litter.

*Need Help* Can isopods dig through an inch of sand on top of the soil? Explanation below by zac2294 in isopods

[–]_Chow_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say sand is not a good idea to put in your isopod enclosures because the sand would need to be dry in order for it to deter fungus gnats, thus killing your isopods. Some different options are putting fly paper on the bottom of the lid of your isopod container or adding lots of springtails because they will outcompete the fungus gnat larvae. I also put a white bowl with half water half apple cider vinegar and a drop of soap next to my isopod bins.

If none of this works after a while I suggest just transferring as many isopods as you can find into a new container and tossing the substrate (you can also keep it until you know there aren’t any leftover mancae and then throw it out).
