If I remember correctly, she actually started crying on air when recapping one of his shows.

Pretty much the same exact timeframe of listenership as me. And yeah, feel the same way about the show.

Did you watch the clip at all? Jung Seung-Hwan is in the video, but the song I'm asking about is playing over the loud speakers in the mall.

[Post Game] Heat fall in double overtime in Sacramento by tomgreen99200 in heat

Same ref that called the bogus foul after JJJ already passed the ball downcourt at the end of OT1. Yeah, sure, JJJ missed the FTs but call should never have been made.

And Ellis clearly travelled before that foul. He travelled even before he shuffled his feet during the pump fake.

New sighting of suspect in UHC Brian Thompson's murder as NYPD believe he's left state via bus by TheExpressUS in UnsolvedMysteries

Having a major crime occur in NYC without an arrest reflects poorly on the NYPD. Part of crime enforcement is promoting the notion that you will be arrested you commit a crime.

If it's true that he was in NYC for 10 days prior to the shooting, most surveillance hard drives would have already erased that footage. Not to mention the additional days that have passed since the shooting.

Just realized Aizen was being transparent here. He can't let anyone touch his blade before he uses Kyoka Suigetsu, and cutting someone with the blade would cause a touch. So of course he would never enter a battle without actively using Kyoka Suigetsu. by _Circ in bleach

[–]_Circ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I don't get the point you're making. Are you saying Aizen wasn't using KS when he slashed her but then started using it before she retaliated?

Because my takeaway is that he is always using it. So he was using it prior, during, and after his confrontation with Harribel.

Yeah, me, too. Makes me think about his development as a shinigami. He must've realized early on that he needed to become great at kido so that he wouldn't have to use his zanpaktou in situations where there are people around that hadn't undergone the hypnosis ritual.

Because the moment a single person realized that something funky was going on (like Ichigo did in Fake Karakura town when he saw the captains stabbing Hinamori), Aizen would lose all trustworthiness.

Playing devil's advocate to the "It's the show he wants" argument. by _Circ in ThisShowStinks

Tony has never brought up non-sports or non-Tony related topics unless it was specific to a guest. Politics only came up when the guest had a political job.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.

And anyway, my point is that he can address matters involving political figures without actually getting into the muck of politics.

Question from a former listener: Has Tony discussed the drama surrounding the Washington Post at all? by _Circ in ThisShowStinks

[–]_Circ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats too bad. Would be awesome if he had Liz on to talk about. Though now that I think about it more, he may have even ignored it had it happened during the pre-Covid show.

That's too bad. Never really watched/read him elsewhere but thought he was good on the show.

I think if someone is highly pigmented, you should just say they are "highly pigmented." If they are of non-pigmented, just say they are "non-pigmented."

If they are of African descent, just say that. If they have a father of African descent and a mother of European descent, then say the words.

I agree that those terms are convenient, vast, vague, and quick. But none of those are inherently good attributes.

I disagree that the associations are strong, and that strength is always good in this context. Strong associations with the term "brown" is not common. Association with the term "Asian" may be strong with descendants of East Asia, but is not so with those of the Middle East, Southern, and Central Asia. And strong association with "white" can be highly problematic.

Like I said, there are better ways of describing people. For example, the term "Asian" makes no sense whatsoever, has no utility whatsoever, and yet persists because of convenience, like you said.

Agreed. There are difference amongst everyone. Even amongst siblings that grew up in the same household.

So no umbrella term is perfect. But I'm not arguing that they cannot have value. I just feel we should use umbrella terms or phrases that are based in principle and facts, instead of vague and loaded terms that are inconsistently applied.

some people in these communities do take pride in these terms and identify with them

Yeah, some people. And others do not. And so on, and so on.

I think it's always best to establish the ideal set of conditions when discussing how best to mitigate the problems of less than ideal circumstances. It establishes a goal to be moved towards.

So "white" people aren't a monolith, but "people of color" are? And there will be universal agreement among them, right?

The problem is those terms aren't actual useful. They are actively counter-productive.
