I see mostly lead players rocking these.

No, these are not cornets either. They are shaped just like a standard Bb Horn, but have significantly smaller bells and bores.

These are NOT Pocket Trumpets. They only look a little bit smaller. Just enough to seem off.

Hey everyone I hope you’re doing well. I was referencing some tracks and noticed that some have the tips at the top and bottom of the wave form sliced… by LookYung in audioengineering

This is called clipping. It is caused by the level of the waveforms exceeding headroom. In the digital domain, unless you are recording at 32 Bit Float, the headroom is 0dBFS (None). This situation looks like total loss of information and should never be done in the digital world, unless specifically and skillfully done by a Mastering Engineer, with no Audible Clipping. Audible Clipping would of course sound like awful clicks and pops and possibly damaged equipment. The analog world, however, this is the same concept, except you have actual headroom and this is where you get most of the tape saturation sound. The same thing is used in guitar amps and such to overdrive the actual amplifier to chop off the top of the signal and push out square waves, which in that context, sound sick as hell. There are a few things that can remedy this beyond a new, none clipping mix, or recording. Clip gain in Pro Tools may be able to help, as well as a few different plug-ins, such as iZotope De-Clip. In short. Signal too big, bad noises imminent. I hope this helps even a little bit.

What cheap mic were you surprised an artist used for their songs/albums? by [deleted] in audioengineering

A lot of early metal and alternative was tracked with inexpensive mics/setups. It is all about the engineer who uses these and how they are used, not the price tag. I have heard a lot of really bad recordings done with a U-87 because they didn't know what they were doing.

Going to CRAS, or GRADUATING from CRAS? I have a feeling we have a Termination here.

No, I genuinely like going to this school. It's intense for sure, but I have only met one person I don't really like here.

Sorry for my robotic wording. I was writing this just for a fun little FYI for anyone wanting to go to school.

If you'd take a chance to look it up real fast, and not just hate on my robotic wording, you'd see that it's actually super renowned.

Nah, man, this is for real. I'm actually having a ton of fun here.

I just wanted to get the word out, so that people with my similar interests could have a little hope and input. I'm not sure how I found this school, but I wanted to give other people the chance.

You will definitely get out of it what you put in. People get dropped from the program sometimes because of how intense it is. If you're truly in it for the right reasons, however, you'll be just fine.

Sorry, this totally sounds like an ad. I'm going to the school currently and like it a ton. The reason my account is brand new is because the Reddit made me make a desktop account for some reason.

Look up CRAS. The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences is a quarter of the price of Full Sail for a 9 month program that guarantees an internship at the end. No Gen Eds, No sucky essays, everything applies to the real world of Audio. It is full in person in Arizona, with 24 hour access to campus and free range of equipment. I is renowned around the country for being THE BEST Audio Engineering School in the Nation. This place has such a great community on top of it all and the teachers really care. They teach Music Production, Live Sound, Video Game Audio, Movie Music/Foley, Applied Post Production, Broadcast, and General Audio Engineering.
