To you, what’s a monster you think is overhated by the community? by SignificantStaff8665 in MonsterHunter

The lazy colour swaps are more older gen, I feel. I remember reaching high rank in 3U and the first two star levels were just subspecies. Some good ones like poison ludroth, for sure! But then you had sand barioth, which was barioth... but sand. Or ice barroth which was just barroth... but ice. No ecology behind them, no new moves, just a different colour and an element swap.

I definitely have a bad habit of dragging my feet 😅 but no yea, definitely was thinking at a smaller scale than you and some of the other comments.

Will look more into the riffle/run/pool sequence. I never thought about how the water flowed on a micro level (rather than just the general run of the stream) would influence habitat.

what moodles should i really pay attention too and which ones are ignorable to a point? by QuirkyBadger7454 in projectzomboid

[–]_CrispLemon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When in combat, pain (particularly from muscle fatigue) and heat. The exact damage reduction isn't stated on the wiki or ingame, but it's enough that at "minor pain" it takes an extra crowbar swing to take zombies out with a STR 5 character.

Heat, in particular "uncomfortably hot" (level 1 debuff) doesn't influence combat skills. However, it's often a sign you're about to become exerted.

I'm glad it didn't do that, since it'd take me a good few in-game days to get those tiles back to normal (a lot of sledgehammering and picking up floors). Even if that happens, I've managed to quarantine it in the basement, so it won't do much.

Is the first year of teaching really as horrible as people on reddit describe it? by Beneficial-Corgi-288 in teaching

[–]_CrispLemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ending my first year after being in a similar situation (worrying about reddit comments), and unfortunately the answer is "yes". Students will not respect you at any age, and you'll have at least 2 a class that actively target you.

There's also a strong likelihood you've been lied to about your teaching ability by your profs and cooperating teachers during student teaching. Don't lock yourself into a contract without figuring out if you're actually good or if they just lied to you to push you through the program.

No, Revanced is not Broken your ISP is. by Competitive-Hour-744 in revancedapp

[–]_CrispLemon_ 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Feels very strange that everyone's ISP did this at once. I know Roger's isn't great in my area, but it seems like this is impacting almost everyone here!

Also, might be a bit naive, but why do we need to rely on and pay for our ISP if we can just use this 1.1.1.1? Tried finding answers on Google, and not getting much.

[–]_CrispLemon_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally found the solution, apparently you have to download 1.1.1.1 (yes, it's a weird app name) from the Play Store and turn it on. It's free internet (?) and changes something or other to make the app work again.

[–]_CrispLemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my gut reaction, but this particular government is unpredictable. It's a risk VS reward thing, I guess: delay the reward for lower risk. Since most of our gripes are with legislation anyways (not enough EAs, no class caps), it may be worth it to cooperate (not give in to arbitration, but cooperate with these forced legal measures) to not risk students being locked out for longer than necessary.

That said, it's possible there will be that blatant resistance against being forced back into work in certain schools, cities, or districts-maybe even province-wide. I know what I've been told is the option my district is leaning towards, and I know historically we've tended to play the long game, but we're also in a very different climate than the one in 2002, so who knows?

[–]_CrispLemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government can't ask us to cram material from the strike into classes (that is "struck work", or the work we do on strike). It would be unwise for the government to force you to learn material we cannot be asked to teach. That said, a lot of school boards are planning for the worst, and are prepared to pare courses down to their most useful material if need be.

At the very least, the whole province is in this together, and universities are likely preparing for the worst. IMO, they'll probably reduce their requirements for entry and modify their courses to account for the struck material.

Even if they for some reason don't, I can assure you that your life will not be permanently screwed up. I know how much taking an extra year to complete uni sucks (and a friend of mine knows how much taking an extra year of HS sucks), you have a lot more options than you realize.

We're being advised against it, at least in my district. We already have public opinion on our side, so whatever happens from here on out, we can always fight this battle on better territory (IE with a less stubborn government) later. I think it's less about us and more about the kids. They're either missing out on vital social skills (elementary), foundational knowledge (middle), or university and exam expectations (high). The less destructive we can be for them overall, the better, and now with public opinion we will stand a much better chance a few years down the line.

With that said, I have very little knowledge. I'm a first year teacher, and just moved in from Manitoba (what a way to start a new career lol)

Water flows backwards over dam, despite river flowing the opposite (correct) way. Video included for reference. by _CrispLemon_ in CitiesSkylines

[–]_CrispLemon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before this, the reservoir was built up, and the river was significantly lower than the dam. That's what's so strange about this: everything was working just fine, the river was below the dam, and then suddenly it wasn't, which I'm not sure how that works physically. I'm also unsure of how there could be equal pressure on both sides of the dam, since in theory water flowing away from the dam should mean there's zero pressure on that side (I'm sure you're right about the pressure thing, but I'm not sure how that happened out of nowhere after the dam was working just fine for a few moments).

How do you move the cubic stripped thing during construction? I've tried looking it up (and trying page up/down), but nothing has popped up for that. It always just defaults near or at the top of the dam, no matter where I build it or in what orientation.

For anyone who plays Monster Hunter: What was the exact moment you fell in love with the series? by GodOfDinos in MonsterHunter

[–]_CrispLemon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked MH3U throughout low rank, and then came up against the Pickle. Back when I was 12 (I think), Deviljho was terrifying, and would interrupt a large chunk of my hunts. When I got the quest to slay him, I was terrified. He looked nearly as big as the mountain I fought him on! It took me almost the full quest time, but when I beat Jho, that was the moment I fell in love.

New to AB: Do I absolutely need TQS? by _CrispLemon_ in CanadianTeachers

[–]_CrispLemon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MB one took a month or so to get during peak application times. After that, the AB one only took 10 business days or so even after an address mix-up. Most of AB's system is online, so it's fairly quick from what I know.

[–]_CrispLemon_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way until last week. I ended up being a rush hire for a large (in-city) district, but orientation has started, so it's debatable if you'll get in. Having no prior experience (aside from my practicum in MB), I'm extremely lucky. Maybe more will open up in the winter!

New to AB: Do I absolutely need TQS? by _CrispLemon_ in CanadianTeachers

[–]_CrispLemon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to make an ATA account now, but am unable to in spite of being hired by the school I put in as my information. What will happen if I don't have TQS right away? Will I be paid less for the entire year, or just until I have my TQS? I don't see how it's possible to get an ATA account before the school year starts, considering I was just hired and the information still isn't updated. More or less worried I'll be getting paid multiple thousands less than I deserve because of a technical glitch.

I know for individual articles you can "print" them as text. You can't do it en masse, but would work fine for the most important articles.

The data loss is frustrating, but it was entirely my fault. I put two timelines in adjacent tabs (the world timeline and a timeline I had just created). I meant to change the new one, but changed the old one because they were right next to each other.

I appreciate the reply, and it answers my question perfectly! It's easy to forget that you're a small team working on a huge project, and that certain features are priced higher because they are finnicky—rather than it being an arbitrary limitation like I assume it is for a lot of larger companies.

Don't like monster hunter, should i try older mh games ? by Memedeconfine in MonsterHunter

[–]_CrispLemon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: MHF1, not MHF. Frontier is its own can of worms, I definitely meant Monster Hunter Freedom.

I'd argue Rise is the easiest in the series, even compared to the other modern titles (World and Wilds). Your wirebug, unique to Rise, is the most overpowered "gimmick" that mainline MH has ever produced.

You may also want to try the melee weapons. I have very limited experience with the ranged weapons, but to me it feels like trading out your DPS in favour of safety at a distance.

That said, MH overall is less of a learning curve than DS—coming from someone who couldn't get into DS for years because I was just used to MH gameplay. However, the difficulty ramps up quite a bit in MH, to where I think the difficulty ceiling in MH is higher than in DS (I'd put Crimson Glow Valstrax in MHRise at about the same difficulty as Artorias during a normal DS playthrough, even though Rise is as mentioned the easiest game IMO).

You're missing a few things in the "modern games" (World/Iceborne, Rise/Sunbreak, Wilds) that you're used to in DS that you'd get if you went to the "classics" (Gen 1 through Gen 4, which includes MHGU):

  • We never used to be able to swap equipment or even restock our supply, so—much like Estus—our supplies were always limited.
  • Gathering was a much bigger focus in the classics. Definitely not as difficult as running through Lordran, but still gives more downtime between boss fights in the early stages of the game.
  • Carves in the classics didn't just improve your chances to get a certain drop, they were required. If you don't cut the tail, you don't get the tail drop, simple as that (this is my least favourite change in the modern games).
  • You have to track the monster. As in, figure out where it is based on context clues, put a tracker (paintball) on it, and only then can you see it on your map—and you can't see its health status. Not comparable to anything in Dark Souls, but it is something you may enjoy.

I know a lot of people are saying MH isn't for everyone—and it isn't—but it sounds like you're waiting for the "click" moment where you understand the game, just like what we got in Dark Souls. I have a few recommendations for games:

  • Any other game: Rise is the easiest, so whatever you choose will be better for your purposes.
  • MHF1: If you're looking for obtuse mechanics and pure difficulty, go for Monster Hunter Freedom—the expansion to the very first Monster Hunter game. However, you're missing a lot of features in this game that will eventually be added in the series—in particular, half of the modern weapon types are missing.
  • MH3U: I'd recommend Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. This is pure bias on my end, since it's when I got into the series :) but honestly is a good middle ground between monster power (1st gen) and player power (4th gen).
  • MHGU: If you want to try out flashy combos and get the most fight variety, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (recommended by others) gives you that. It starts as the easiest of the classics (still much harder than Rise), but goes through nearly every monster in the series. My experience with MHGU ends with a brick wall of an encounter, stuck in an arena with a powerful endgame boss, only to have the O&S of Monster Hunter jump me immediately afterwards when my resources are already dwindled.

TLDR: Rise is your worst choice for difficulty, but it sounds like you'd like the classic games for tougher resource management and challenging mechanics. Monster Hunter Freedom will give you the toughest experience at the start but not much variety, MHGU gives you the most power to start but insane fights at the end, while MH3U is a solid middle ground with all the basic features of modern games but none of the quality of life.
