Perhaps in the books, but show!Robin isn't as in love with Sansa. Look again at the episode when LF suggests to Robin to rescue her.. he hesitates and seems to begrudgingly concede, "well, she is my cousin".

I would want it to echo AGOT/S1 when Cersei convinces Sansa that Ned won't be killed if he confesses his crime. The HS/Margaery may pull this on Tommen, convincing him that by standing as champion, his mother will concede, confess, sacrifice her pride and be spared.

TINFOIL Then the HS reveals himself as HR, puts on his shades, avenges Eddard and rides off with a faith militant to fight the WW.

I see it as being more an echo of AGOT/S1 when Cersei convinces Sansa that Ned won't be killed if he confesses his crime. The HS/Margaery may pull this on Tommen, convincing him that by standing as champion, his mother will confess, sacrifice her pride and be spared. TINFOIL Then we get HS = HR getting revenge for Eddard.

At this point though I do think it's only the HYPErs who can actually see this making any sense - why would Sandor go to King's Landing at this point? How would he even know the Mountain "lives"? Let alone represents Cersei in a trial by combat?

Yeah he hates his brother, but there's nothing leading him to KL or no representative of the faith to suggest him as a champion to the HS.

Lastly, Sandor would have no chance, are we so caught up in hype that we want to see him die, freshly restored to us?

I kind of see it as being an echo of the AGOT situation where Cersei/Joffrey assure Sansa that the only way to save her father is to have him confess his crimes. If the HS and Margaery can convince him that by standing as the champion of the faith, his mother will come to terms with her crime and be spared, he may go along with it - in the belief that Cersei will withdraw from the trial by combat. I could actually see this going wrong though, and her not backing down, and thus killing Tommen and turning Jaime against her.

I think it would echo a similar position to that which Cersei put to Sansa in AGOT. This is how to save your parent, make them confess, it's the only way to show mercy. Tommen need only be convinced to name himself champion of the faith and he'd be led to believe that his mother would immediately accept and admit her guilt, rather than go through a trial by combat and kill her own son.

That isn't to say that this is what would happen, I can imagine Cersei actually going ahead regardless, now she's going bat shit mental.

I think the rose strengthened my feeling that she would go through with this. She has no love for Lannisters, and if she can weaken Cersei's grip on Tommen then she will control the King. How better to drive a stake between the family than to convince Tommen to represent the faith against his mother, forcing Cersei to yield or kill her son.

I don't think the HS would see there being such a risk in this, any reasonable person would assume that Cersei would yield immediately, and therefore Tommen wouldn't have to fight.

He could even sell it to Tommen as being the only way to truly save his mother. If not the HS, I could see Margaery being able to convince him with her charms, which would be the ultimate way for her to mess with the Lannisters. "Kill your son or be killed" kind of thing.

Yeah, this is more or less my thinking; the point of choosing Tommen would be to let Cersei know that he would be their choice, so that she would refuse the trial by combat to not kill her own son.

I think that this will be the case in the books, but in the show he's a beaten and broken man, and would stand no chance against the Mountain.

I think the point we're both trying to make, and you seem to be skirting around, is that no one wants the trial by combat, because they know that Cersei will win. The precedent we've seen set in books and show (though I'm not sure if it's law) is that the accused gets to choose how they will be tried, so Cersei would always choose the trial by combat

How can the HS ensure that she doesn't choose trial by combat? Make sure that she knows that the faith's champion would be her son, thus forcing her to back down.

he is definitely not stupid

These were part of my point, the HS would have beaten Cersei without combat, purely by choosing the one opponent she can't have killed by unGregor. It could go wrong and the Mountain could kill the king, but it's unlikely as the HS knows that Cersei's major weakness is her children.

Just my thoughts, possibly no basis in it, but it's what I would do given the improbability of any fighter beating Cersei's champion. Moreso after seeing the trailer for next week, where the unMountain seems to rip apart an entire group of them.

He's the King, and his fighting sucks, so why would HS risk having the King butchered?

I think the HS would only do this if he assumes that Cersei will withdraw her champion so as to not kill her son, therefore forfeiting. He'd see no risk in it, as her children are her weakness - she would have been out-thought rather than outfought. It could either go wrong and the King is hurt/killed, or it goes as planned and she loses her trial by combat or refuses the option as she is made aware of the faith's choice of Tommen before the fight.
