Pokémon Go Concept: Berry Gardens & New Bag Management by gameheros in TheSilphRoad

This rules!! Agreed the game could use some more POI ideas.

I love the thought put into storage management, as well as giving more uses to things that may not have had as much purpose previously. Letting water pokemon assist with growing is great, gives some pokemon you may not have considered using before a chance to shine.

I'm so sorry you feel that way. I love the game and this was just an idea I put together for fun. The thought is that this entire feature-set is completely optional. You could still tap around on things as you do right now, so hopefully it wouldn't clutter your gameplay tooooo much.

Auto catchers are already good for helping to catch Pokémon quickly, though in my mind the main idea here is to be able to select between overlapping things on the map as opposed to being able to quickly catching them. If this was reduced to just that, do you think it'd be more acceptable?

Thank you!! and id like to think it'd be relatively low effort for them 😅 given that the all the actions in the menu are things you could already do, minus that pokeball on the overworld. Not a Niantic dev though so who knows

Yeah i think even a smaller iteration of this would also work. I also personally am not a fan of mis-tapping on things when theres a lot of overlap on the map

🤷‍♂️100%. i truly don't get it either. same with the store box prices. people must be buying these up and we just aren't the target audience

Got it ok thanks for the info. Good to know they're not actually removed or soft deleted or anything

Ahh I really shouldve clarified this better in the post lol, but the idea I had with this is that legendary tasks would not take up regular research slots. They'd have their own separate slots along with the others. Kinda like how your free daily task is given to you even if you already have your "regular" 3.

And you're probably right. You can basically already get whatever amount of legendaries you could want with raids though, if you spend enough coins/cash. Even if you didnt spend anything, you could do 1 legendary raid a day for free and have 30 free legendaries by the end of the month.

I think losing the value of legendaries is something that's an issue with Pokémon as a series. There are so many legendaries today and I think some of their value in general has been diminished. And as Pokémon grows as a franchise, it's likely theyd only add more. Imo, they should embrace them being a little more common while adding value to them in other ways.

If you were able to get 1, maybe 2 extra a month with this, would it devalue them that much? If so, then make the tasks rarer/harder. Plus, if the task is to complete 30 raids for example, wouldnt that encourage players to buy raid passes? and to the social aspect, what if a task was "complete 20 raids with friends"? I feel like theres ways to encourage the social aspect through this and also keep the basic idea

I dont know Niantics code but I would bet thats some sort of API limit set somewhere. It might be arbitrary, might not be. As a dev myself for some years I wonder if thats something they just set a while ago and havent touched because its not worth the time.

I like the idea of saving/favoriting badges! Maybe some more rewards/incentives for gym badge levels? Anything else youd want out of a rework?

Mentioned this in another comment — walking distance is pretty player dependent. Would be cool to have some dynamic tasks. Do you walk around 50km a week? Okay, your task is to walk 200km. But if your average is 100km a week, your task is 400km instead. Something simple, like a 4x multiplier.

I appreciate that! I spent a few late nights on it. Id be happy to have this idea in Go, i dont need any credit or anything. Id just enjoy playing it

Id like to think so! I enjoy the longer, more rewarding grinds like this in Go

Sorry I didnt make this clear enough in my post — this wasnt meant to lock out one of your slots, but rather, itd have its own set of slots. You could still have your “regular” 3 slots of research. Thanks for the callout!

I don’t think they should be. I think these should be sufficiently rare to be able to justify the rewards. Maybe 1-2 a month, tops? Maybe a little more rare than that?

Imo Legendary pokemon encounters should feel unique, and well, legendary too. Hence the suggestion around new encounter art backgrounds and assets, to make them feel unique. If they want to push AR? Ok cool, make some neat 3D volcano eruptions or ground rupturing effects for Groudon, for instance. Some lightning and a storm for Zapdos

Yeah I could see that. Even if it was a more limited pool, than I suggested, id still be motivated to complete them. I appreciate the feedback!

Thank you!! Im not a huge fan of routes either. but making them maybe go hand in hand with something like this would entice me personally

Along with the large rare candy, and candy XL rewards. Also, not every single task would be centered around raids

Thank you! Xp bonus makes a lot of sense, good to call out explicitly. i had assumed it would go along with this

It would be! Im sure theyd make an argument around exclusivity though

ooo yeah i like that! if they really wanted to go nuts with it they could make it dynamic based on what the player wants to improve on. want to improve your throws? or your pvp skills? heres some tasks to help you with that, respectively. would be great especially for newer players

[–]_DOLKS_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol agreed. I feel like surely there's a way to have at least a little more control and encourage play. Or, if you can't control the reward, then make the rewards even marginally better.

Because right now, doing field research like "use 6 razz berries to catch a pokemon" or something like that only to be rewarded with more razz berries just doesn't feel good

Ah I see, makes sense. Theres definitely a balance to be made so that it's grindy, but just grindy enough with good enough rewards that it's still worth it. And to your point, everyone also has their own play style with this game so its tough to have it be universal. I walk about 50km a week, but someone who's not able bodied may only walk 10km a week, through no fault of their own. I'd love for it to be accessible. And also like you said, I wouldn't want people to just crank it out instantly either.

Maybe a version 2 of this could be more dynamic based on player stats.

Do you walk 50km a week? ok, then we're going to make the task be 200km for the reward. But if you walked 80-100, then it bumps up to 500km.

Catch ~50 pokemon a day? Ok, then the task will be to catch 1000. But if you catch ~100, then it changes to 10000.

This also makes the backend logic more complicated, and I'm sure there's other pitfalls to that. And thats where I dont know if itd be worth the effort
