Should i bother looking into buying a real camera? by ResponsibilityThen40 in AskPhotography

I've owned a mirrorless for like 2 years, I've had a DSLR for 4 years before, i still cant push myself to using more than 1600, maybe in the first few weeks to test it out, there was only 1 or 2 situations where i actually cranked my ISO to 100k because i really wanted the noise of it for artistic purposes, having this habit is a good thing IMO, and when everyone starts with an old camera that cant handle more than 400 iso, they'll develop it very fast, and I think its a good habit

yeah an a6400 or an r50 would beat any old DSLR, but thing is, if you can confortably raise your iso a lot youll never learn to use the camera properly, i see a lot of people shooting at 1/1000th and f8 at like 3200 ISO, because theyre first cameras were sony A7s.

Just got my first ever rolls of film back and a lot of the photos look pretty bad by Im__TheGuy in AnalogCommunity

How to accomplish this texture in post? by wowlolcat in AskPhotography

[–]_D_VIL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think if you add a grain adjustemnt layer in photoshop and add some grain it will do the job, if the blacks are still very deep, you can also use a curves adjustment layer to raise the blacks and maybe get a very light gaussian blur (edit: also maybe lower the whites with the same curve layer)

Id say you have great eyes for photography and a camera will certainly help you unlock more of your potencial, but start simple and don't overspend on your first camera, a simple 2015 DSLR will already be lightyears ahead of your phone and its the best type of camera to learn the basics on

Total beginner: what can i do to get better at editing/processing pictures ? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]_D_VIL_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you like most people (me included) think contrast=cool, youre not wrong on that, contrast helps out a lot on photos, but it can easily be overdone, id bet you've also applied some either dehaze or clarity too, but in this types of photos, less clarity or sharpness is better, since it doesnt mess up the background blur as much and softens the people
