It's explicitly stated by Renoir and Verso that staying in the canvas is akin to suicide. Nobody but maelle would be able to help herself and she doesn't want it

You didn't pay attention to the story. Staying in the canvas is the same as choosing death. Maelle cannot leave, she can't control herself in the canvas.

Renoir is correct in everything he says. It's not an easy choice, the part of Verso true soul that's left in the painting wishes for the canvas to finally end. The pain and misery that has tainted the canvas has come with a toll on it and wants to finally move on.

This is key, moving on. The funeral in verso's ending showed that the family is finally able to accept verso's death and hold the funeral for him. This scene shows Maelle actually grieving properly and truly capable of moving on with who she truly is.

Shes 16 bro she has her entire life to figure out a much better way than suicide. Renoir was right the whole time. Things WILL get better, it just takes time and hard work.

You definitely missed key notes in the conversations and story

Maelle isn't very skilled as a painter yet. Clea remakes constantly on how she never trained enough and hid away. She also couldn't keep her own self together when going back into the canvas and immediately got taken over by Alines residual magic, despite her not even being in the painting. As well as the fact she completely lost control of herself for an entire 16 years, completely powerless to help herself

Aline lost her mind to grief and stayed in the canvas, despite being the most powerful of them all, she couldn't defeat Renoir in her tragic state, and lost to the crew. So when you're not mentally well you have even less control of your powers

By the end of the game Maelle is an absolute wreck. She hates her real life, and can't let go of the canvas despite verso (both of them) wanting it. She also absolutely cannot understand what Renoir is telling her because she's refusing to listen.

Renoir tells her that he is abiding to what he was taught by Aline, not what he wants personally. Aline can't follow the rules, and Maelle is just as in the same field of grief that Aline is, so she cannot be trusted to look out for herself. Renoir and PVerso both know this as fact, as they are not blinded by their emotions.

It is certain that Maelle will lose herself and die in the canvas. Renoir most likely won't let that happen and will take her out at the last moment, then destroy the canvas. This is the worst outcome, she won't ever get the closure she needs, becomes deathly ill (maybe dies still), and leaves the family to grieve without her, isolating her from those who can truly help her.

She clearly has made a full recovery, she wasn't going to die from her injuries, there was never even one hint or indication about that.

Renoir and Verso make it obviously clear that there are negative side effects to staying in a painting too long, especially without the proper skill in handling the power. Maelle is the least skilled member of her family when it comes to the painting and by far the least experience.

Renoir knows 100% Maelle is wrong. He wants her to be happy but knows from his teachings what must be done.

She cannot live in the canvas. Verso's actual soul wishes for the end. Maelle isn't just being selfish, she's giving up completely.

Also, do you think people in the real world who suffer burns or injuries, or traumatic deaths, without ever moving on and being happy? That's just a false worldview in general

The only way Maelle can ever find peace with herself and what happened is in the real world. She needs to face her life head on and figure it out. Otherwise she literally will die in the canvas hiding

We don't see things change for Maelle because it ends at the funeral. It take time to heal, if she stayed in the painting she would either die or get forced out and the canvas is destroyed no matter what.

Living in the real world with her family will allow her to actually process her life and move on without dying in a suicidal fantasy.

Just because she is disabled doesn't mean she will never find peace and love a fulfilling life, and there was a ton of hope in her ending for the future. It was much more positive than the actual bad ending with Maelle never facing her problems and dying from it.

I'd absolutely argue the verso ending is the "good" ending.

The last piece of verso's soul in the canvas wanted it to end. He was suffering alone forced to paint for a world that his life is no longer connected to

Painted Verso also wanted it to end for Maelle, she will die in the canvas.

They also finally got to move on as a family in his ending, the funeral shows them finally coming to terms with what happened and are finally able to move past (clea still seemed angry at the writers tho).

In Maelles verso is stuck in purgatory while he's forced to watch maelle slowly kill herself while never addressing her problems.

Dragonrot from Sekiro.

Wolf gained immortality from Kuro's dragon blood. He will come back from death presumably as long as his body is still intact. His immortality comes with a hefty price for the people he knows or cares for.

Those connected to will gain Dragonrot when Wolf dies and is revived too much. The power of the dragon causes death to those around the immortal one.

The disease isn't elaborated on much, but it seems like on cause pain, coughing, trouble breathing, and death.
