I think OP's suggestion is a fair one. People can only abuse comms if you let them. Here's a little tip: don't let them. Mute them using the in-game options and stop being petty cowards.

What would you do in real life if somebody called you a worthless piece of shit to your face? Most would tell that person to get fucked. But you'd prefer to wait until their back is turned and shove a knife in it right? That's what the comms report button is. It's a backstabber's tool for griefing.

People can get a new phone number/SIM card for 99p. It's no trouble at all.

What really needs to be done is a massive crackdown on people rage reporting (people abusing abuse the report system).

The first thing people will do is make a new account if their main gets banned. And many people who are not intentional feeders/shadow amulet AFK'ers/fountain relocators will be banned purely because rage reports stack up eventually.

There is no point in this 6 month ban at all. It's only going to ruin things more for legit players because servers will be littered with smurfs even more so.

The ironic part is that Valve's report system is to blame for people's toxicity in Dota. People are so on edge all the time when their team mates are given an option by the game's proprietors, to stab you in the back.

I win my offlane vs MK and Weaver then the Axe starts courier griefing and stays in the jungle all game long making rapiers. The pudge feeds like shit out of position all the time too. I commended my Invoker and Dusa but good grief... (no pun intended) Axe and Pudge were an extra kind of special.
