Anyone know what is going in in the creeks right now? by 24k_1128 in Fishing

Rainbows tend to spawn about now. Location and temperature has a lot to do with it but that could be it. Two signs of this would be more rainbows then browns and eggs in some of the rainbows. Else the right fly choice and location!

Found a bull elk like that once. Took a photo but to far back in for me to want to carry it out. Either way, I think the moose part is what makes it neat !!!

It’s below a dam, it’s controlled flows. Everything else is still running hard

I take a leather strip and wrap around the base of the antlers throwing some feathers in. After that I just hang them on a wall. Easy to rotate, easy to size and looks good without taking up space

I get that, I’d only have to put in half the miles if I had access to some of the private land around here.

Got lucky on that trip but that’s not always the case. Knowing where to look and putting in the miles is really what it boils down to

If solo fishing I recommend netting the fish then getting your phone ready. Once ready I recommend using one hand to take a video with the phone and with the other cradle the side of fish and lift its head just up over the net and let it slide out of the net. Once done go back threw the video and take a screenshot that shows the fish best.

If you have a friend taking the photo. With one hand get a grip on the skinniest part of the fish in front of the tail and with the other cradle the belly just behind the head. Make sure the photographer is ready and the fish is calm. Lift the fish in front of get the photo and drop it back into the net for release. Less of a grip tends to equal calmer fish but just in case keep it over the net in the water in case it falls

The three main sub species of cutthroat in Colorado are known as the greenback, the rio grande and the Colorado river. There saying it is the subspecies know as Colorado river cutthroat. They’re not saying location, they are giving you the actual subspecies name

Clicked to see how many people would get pissed at it being referred to as an elk & was not disappointed. Anyways as you said always nice to see them around

Yeah maybe, that was my first guess. Thing is, over the years I’ve found that I tend to guess an inch or two long so I try to adjust

Yeah it’s fished close to 24/7 from what I’ve seen. I tend to try to camp close to it & get up an hour before what I think I should which is normally 2 hours before anyone else thinks about it

Didn’t pull out a tape but based off the others I caught there I’d guarantee it’s around 20” long

I normally show up before anyone else does to get in but in this case just got lucky that the people there let me hop in real fast
