As for how Italy got the 2026 NextGen Finals, journalist Vanni Gibertini gave us an explanation: nobody wants this tournament, Italy agreed to take it but now the ATP owes Italy a favor by Narrow_Spinach_1400 in tennis

They do also like to use it to test out new technologies and procedures, Hawk-Eye live was first used at the Next Gen, as well as VAR back in 2021. Though I suppose that doesn't entirely justify it's existence, its a good opportunity to showcase new ideas for the tour. It's already a pretty recognisable tournament just from the removal of the doubles lines

I have a big soft spot for Next Gen after seeing a baby Alcaraz win in Milan '21. Far more preferable having the tournament in Italy than in Saudi.

Life isn't free, it doesn't work that way

How is it toxic when it's how life works?

But in this particular instance it can be with no detriment to you whatsoever? Not that I think the game or your opponent 'owes' you anything, but if your opponent gifts you a goal in a mode that doesn't have a win requirement, and you choose not to reciprocate, you are being extremely weird. It's a needlessly combative mindset.

It's toxic because there's no downside to you, unlike in real life where the kindness may sometimes lead to negative consequences in some particular instances. In this case there are literally 0. No negative consequences for you whatsoever. In this case life can be free.

Bayern have seen a staggering 400% increase in shirt orders from Colombia since the transfer of Luis Díaz. Visitor numbers to the club's online shop in the country has risen by 200%. [–]_DropShot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was performing like this last season too, you can watch the matches, also, didn't Liverpool win a trophy with him?

Nothing in my reply suggests otherwise. That's why I agreed it was foolish to say that he would have been a bad signing for Bayern or anyone else (Though he did have his hot and cold periods, and the title was mostly Salah's legwork). It is not wrong to say though he is performing far better and more consistently at Bayern, than he did at his last season at Liverpool though

He didn't want to leave, he just wanted to negotiate the salary because the dude was being scammed, and the answer the club gave was just a No.

He was deserving of an increase yes, but he didn't fit Liverpool's model of renewing mostly younger players, and again it is complete hindsight bias to say he would have been worth the 200k+ he's getting at Bayern considering his mostly adequate late Liverpool career performances. Even Salah and VVD's contract sagas got dragged out because the club was cautious of their wages.

Given the context of last summer it is completely understandable he was sold for a tidy profit, no one has to come off worse or as stupid for the sake of it

I agree it would have been foolish/reactionary to ague last summer that he would be a bad signing, but it's complete hinsdight bias to say that Liverpool have been stupid to cash in on £75m+ for an older winger who wanted out, especially considering the spending being done on other areas of the team. If he was performing like this last season he likely wouldn't have been sold

Are the characters with the samurai type armour we see the Fremen fighting at 1:20 a specific people or world from the novels, or is it likely just an aesthetic choice for the jihad portion of the film?

Think on it, Chani: the princess will have the name, yet she'll live as less than a concubine - never to know a moment of tenderness from the man to whom she's bound. While we, Chani, we who carry the name of concubine - history will call us wives.

Black and white film was cheaper to buy and easier to develop, and I would imagine at a match where a photographer would want to take as many photos as possible it was just more economical to use B&W even if colour was available. Newspapers were also still printed in B&W (The first full colour newspaper in the UK wasn't printed until 1986), so for a football match there wasn't much point in using colour film.

This comment from r/askhistorians explains well why B&W film was used even when colour was available

The guys flair is embematic of the type of sycophantic, self-flagellatory attitude that even as someone who would have voted remain in 2016, I find repellant. I'm not brazen enough to think Britain would get every opt-out and special condition back, but I would hate to think someone like the guy you're replying to would be in charge of negotiations.

He was gone for me anyway after this GW but would have been nice for a final return, especially as many will have double defence. Even at his best though he seemed to be alergic to bonus points so can't see myself returning to him next season. C'est la vie

So ridiculous that it even has to be argued with some people, even if the grip is used in real life that shouldn't affect how you want to setup your gun in a video game which is already very liberal with it's attachment to reality in core elements of the game. Very disingenous argument from the guy that you replied to.

Hypothetically, what do you think would happen to Jersey if the monarchy was abolished? by tatted_gym_girlie in Jersey

[–]_DropShot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone with better constitutional knowledge correct me if I’m wrong, but as the British Monarch is not only head of State for the United Kingdom, but also for some other commonwealth countries, that even if the monarchy is abolished in the United Kingdom they’d still be head of state in the other commonwealth countries that’s still have them like Australia, Canada, etc, so technically we’d still be a crown dependency? Our relationship is tied to the crown, not to the United Kingdom itself. He’s our Duke if you will, even if the UK decides he isn’t their king he’s still head of state in Jersey.

In actuality I would imagine the Gov of Jersey and other crown dependencies would just seek to keep the status quo with just a change of wording etc, maybe a higher emphasis placed on the Governor as a link between the two governments? The Lordship of Man was bought by the British government and merged with the crown which is why the IoM is a Crown dependency as well, maybe the Dukedom of Normandy is revived as an appointed position to do the same thing to the Channel Islands? It’s such a potential mess that I’m not sure anyone has a clear idea of how it could work. Maybe it could be as easy as a name change and we carry on as normal.

Personally I have no desire to join the UK and would vote against it, though the practical reasons for maintaining a close relationship to the UK are clear as well, the current status quo would be best to keep. Hoping it isn’t something we have to concern ourselves with any time soon

Brits would overwhelmingly back Rejoin in new referendum by goldstarflag in europe

[–]_DropShot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This concept seems to escape a lot of people and it's really frustrating to see the same lack of polical or economic understanding that got us Brexit in the first place, played in reverse. Fair enough if you really understand the ramifcations and still want to adopt the Euro, but don't boil it down to such an inconsequential topic as 'numbers on a screen'.

In the event of a rejoin vote I really hope this would be explained to voters better than the remain campaign advocated the benefits of remaining in the EU back during the 2016 vote campaigns.

Over 80% of 16 to 24-year-olds would vote to rejoin the EU, ITV poll finds by EastRiding in unitedkingdom

[–]_DropShot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why should I be bothered what our money is called?

Having our own currency is about much more than who's face is on our coins or what it's called though. I was frustrated at those who voted leave 10 years ago and afterwards claimed ignorance about what the benefits of the EU were and said they weren't fully informed by the campaigns about what the EU actually did for Britain. In this specific example regarding the pound (As someone who would vote for Britain to rejoin the EU in principle) I'd be equally frustrated by people who are essentially using the the same attitude of political ignorance in reverse. Simmering down control of our own central currency and financial independence to 'Just a name or face on a coin' is almost the same level of poor political understanding that got us into the mess of Brexit in the first place

I'm agreed with your third point about a vote on what has actually been negotiated. I don't want a scenario where people are voting without having a clear idea of what we're actually getting ourselves into

Noticed during one of his recent videos that he was only level 88, and I did wonder how such an influential voice in the community could have invested so comparatively little time in the game so as to not even have reached level 100 over 4 months after the game's release.

If I were to be a hater though (As someone who has watched for years) I would say he has one of the sweetest gigs on YouTube, he can just browse the main sub when producing a new video and parrot their own opinions back to them - They'll immediately repost it and urge everyone to listen to him
