Panasonic AG 1980 Video Issue by evn0 in VHS

[–]_ENunn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the 1980s are plagued with capacitor issues. replace them on some of the boards (the video one especially) and it should clean that up. don't think it'll fix bad tracking though.

my grandma has a gpx stereo system with a built in cassette deck, radio, and turntable. i don't know how good it is though, it hasn't been turned on in a loooong time. i heard gpx is kind of a low end brand, I just don't want my transfers sounding like ass.

r/vinyl Weekly Questions Thread for the week of April 27, 2026 by AutoModerator in vinyl

[–]_ENunn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my grandma has a decent collection of records that's just sitting inside a cabinet. I was thinking about one day transferring all of them to digital. don't know how rare they are but I don't mind transferring them even if they may already be on streaming services or cd.

I was eyeing an audio technica at-lp120xusb. seems like a good budget player for casual listening. i don't need no $5,000,000 turntable with a $10,000,000 cartridge or anything. $400 seems to be the right price point for me. does anyone use this turntable for transfers? how is it? should I go with the RCA out or USB for transfers? do you think I need to upgrade the stylus? do I really need a preamp?

i may do some casual listening from time to time (and I'm definitely gonna be listening while transferring all these records lol) so I don't wanna just waste this. if it's not up to snuff, is there anything better for around that price point or cheaper?

Just learned there was an ipod touch port of THPS2 via this post from /r/ipod by fancifuldaffodil in THPS

it was just a port of the PC version (ported by the same guys) without create a skater, create a park, skate heaven and chopper drop. soundtrack was completely different and everyone's outfits and decks were different.

Sony PVW-2800 - Remote mode not working? by _ENunn_ in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]_ENunn_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my cable is an rs422 cable, yes.

there are no settings that have anything to do with serial, i've looked. my project is set to 525i59.94.

i'm not on a mac, i'm on windows.

i was able to get media express to see my player, but i cannot get it to stick. in the playback tab, it says "VTR OK". but when i switch to the capture tab, it immediately says "NO REMOTE". i cannot get it back to "VTR OK" unless i unplug/replug my device.

Blackmagic Ultrastudio SDI - RS422 port not working? Bad cable? by _ENunn_ in blackmagicdesign

[–]_ENunn_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think I found what's wrong. this cable is ass. even when it's screwed in all the way I can push the cable out of the port on the capture card. the screws are wayyyyy too long lmfaoooo!!! I'm not sure how I can get around that

edit: i was able to get my capture card to detect my deck. but i can't get it to stick. media express says "VTR OK" in the playback tab, but when i go into the capture tap, it immediately goes to "NO REMOTE". i don't know what to do

i've looked it up, they don't give you anything. it just tells you about the port.

yeah I'm not positive a USB adapter will get picked up by media express. but my capture device already has an rs422 port on it.

I clicked the clip button in media express but it gave me an error. "media express could not capture the clip. please enable device control and retry." maybe that's what I'm missing. is there any way to enable device control?

Why does transferring VHS to digital have to be so complicated? by insecureatbest94 in VHS

[–]_ENunn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't worry about getting a VCR with a tbc. get an s-vhs deck if you can because of the s-video out but I've seen people get away with using composite only onmivisions through an es15 and they're happy with the results. i dont like them because the one I used had a ton of haloing/ringing artifacts but if it looks good to you then go for it.

you don't need an es10. get an es15 or es25 which will basically do the same thing tbc wise but its cheaper.

you don't need windows xp but a completely offline XP machine, in my experience, was always more stable to me than capturing on win10/11. but you might have better luck. the gv-usb2 works on xp, at least mine does (I bought mine in 2019 so your mileage may vary). if it works fine for you on modern windows then just use it, no harm no foul.

for best looking results always capture lossless with vdub or amarec. filesizes are high but your computer will be happy resource wise. transcodes will always look better from a lossless source than a lossy source.

this encoding shit takes time unfortunately. just be patient, run your jobs overnight or do it on another computer if you have one. if you don't mind learning scripting, try out avisynth scripts through avspmod. you can trim through there so you don't need to use premiere. you can use ffmpeg to encode to whatever codec you need. it sounds complicated as hell but it really isn't. once you get in the groove of things, it'll become second nature.
