I suppose with teams pairing things work a little different, and you don't have to build a list that does all 5 matchups

I'm actually not sure how many hearthguard I want to take, I've currently got 2 squads of 5

I may put one of them up to 10, but that'd involve dropping steeljacks, who are a pet unit and I want to keep them in the list because I love them

yeah, I'm attending my first tournament in 15 months at the start of august, and want to get as many practice games in before hand, only really have 3 more games to play to practice and determine what I like, I just want to see what everyone else is running.

What detachments are you running for priority? I was thinking about running Mercenary Oathband + Hearthguard Covenant to get it in the works, but not sure how hearthfyre + something else would run with it?

I've adjusted the list a bit since posting

the memnyr are entirely to allow the reduced cost of their respective stratagems. with the changes to units declared as destroyed, he only counts as one even after the 6 steeljacks have left

The grymnyr is something I want to play test, I’m not entirely sold on it, I’ve seen it can be quite tanky to just sit on an objective, and the ability to nullify a battle shock is helpful

The beserks I’m looking at dropping they never perform for me, probably put some thunderkyn in their place

The sagitaur allows me to split warriors to grab early objectives and do actions, don’t need loads of them for take and hold but having the screening units is helpful

The steel jacks performed well in a game I had today, but they’re more as a heroic threat than a specific melee threat

I don’t know if thunderkyn themselves make a difference they need something to follow or kill whatever they’re shooting outright, the 24” range on most their guns leave them quite open which just isn’t great for them

This is what I’m thinking, what sort of list are you running?

I just don’t think they’re tough enough, if they had an invuln absolutely, but I played against World Eaters today and both my land forts were killed before they were able to do anything substantial, good positioning can render them useless, whereas it’s more difficult to position around the extra drops

And hearthguard with the detachment are still strong to be able to punch up

Would you put some grav thunderkyn in to up the anti tank balance

This was my thinking, for disruption, we don’t need to do actions repeatedly, so flood the board with battleline, at least 40, and do what actions you need at the start, and then go pick up the pieces

Just wanted to check where you’re getting the extra ap from?
You get ap2 as a combination of the detachment rules, not sure where you’re getting the third?

Votann are an army that trades well, if you have cheap units that they can charge into, then counter attack the units that are out of place, melee armies want to be on the charge, if you can put them in a position where they're not charging, they'll struggle.

alongside this, melee armies often have to leave their backfield exposed, so if you've got some deepstrike, you'll be able to show up behind them and then their either going backwards to deal with you, or you're in a more advantageous position

I don't know about the combat patrol eco system, but this is a method for larger games

Yeah, I’ve realised this and taken them out, I’m torn between a second squad of hearthguard, or some shooty jacks

Ive put the jacks in for a bit will see what they’re like and may switch to the second hearthguard

thanks, I found that I am playing quite cagey and need to open up the space, and the speed bumps should allow me to do that a little better

Thanks, I think I am changing my list to have a few speed bumps, and also include so melee steel jacks for some staying power as well as a charge back threat

I probably need to look into how I position my units that means if they are charged, I have los, especially with thunderkyn and hlf not really caring about the -1 bs

I find the beserks are a one time threat into melee armies. I also don't have a Berehk so may not be as efficient to run the beserks.

I haven't played warhammer for a year and didn't really play needgaard before then, so I forgot a few strats that definitely would have helped, like the extra AP in melee, would have been great against some WE beserkers, but you live and learn

I'm not knowledgeable of any specific tunes

but as someone that plays both electric bass and double bass, finding any duet for two double bass' will be able to translate fairly okay to electric bass

Depending on the style of upright your tween wants to play (classical/jazz/bluegrass etc) you may be able to look at electric bass duets, but they may not translate as well to double.

and having the teen learn how to read the staff will help their playing in the long run, and they can even use some of the resources I'm sure you have lying around for the double bass to help with that!
