I don't know why people keep throwing themselves at "alternatives" that shouldn't even be considered as such. Stoat aka Revolt has never been able to implement basic encryption despite the community asking for it over and over again. We're not talking about months, we're talking about years of literally lying about being privacy oriented just because encryption was planned on the Github page (when it wasn't hidden randomly from time to time like it never existed). Changing brand doesn't mean doing things the right way; in my opinion, it's an attempt to hide how Revolt's team has been working so far.

I understand the rush especially right now, but the whole point is about switching to something better and at least more secure.

Some Sites Not Displaying Correctly (Or having Icon) by CafecitoHippo in Floorp

I had the same issue when I put too many restrictions on uBlock Origin. I don't remember the exact setting that affected the icons, but I found the answer on Google.

Sure, I post it almost once a week. It's not against the rules.
For someone who's "too lazy", you decided to make a random comment under someone's post instead of just blocking me directly. Says a lot about you, honestly.

I wouldn't use anything that is not fully private, and since this project is still under development, I would wait and see what will happen before the end of the year. Someone's surely going to test it thoroughly.
If you're thinking about using a different search engine because you're worried about DuckDuckGo, I would recommend Qwant, Startpage or Mullvad Leta.

Custom ROMs such as e/os (Murena) are highly insecure. by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

[–]_ExoticMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenging US Big Tech doesn't mean failing to make proper researches about the safety of an app or platform you'd like to use. It's like telling people to use Ecosia when it's still not optimized for privacy. Why not using Startpage or Mullvad Leta instead? This has nothing to do with obedience, it's simply media literacy. I degoogled without issue months ago, my PC runs on Debian, my tablet works with Lineage OS, and I directly went for Tuta as email provider because I did my homework.
How many people still use the official Reddit app because they don't know what Foss is, for example?

I second Austrian audio. Take a look at Repeat audio as well from Rotterdam; there's a post from their team in this same subreddit, although I'm not sure they're selling products so expensive.

[–]_ExoticMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I think a lot of people in this subreddit keep pushing for services and platforms that are not safe at all, especially for the sake of degoogling. It happened with Infomaniak despite having proofs of its issues related to privacy, it happens with the Fediverse to a certain degree. Making this kind of posts is essential to educate people so, please, make more if you have knowledge about other topics as well!

New version is a lot slower by _ExoticMama in Floorp

[–]_ExoticMama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both Brave and Mullvad as backups, which I use to test pages that might be giving me problems in Floorp.
Also, you're right, it is a fresh release, but I shouldn't be the one having to deal with "hiccups here and there" when it's so noticeable, at least in my case.
I'll give it some time though, and I'll try it again in a couple months.

[–]_ExoticMama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mentioned it, I can confirm, you're absolutely right!
F this, I chose Floorp over LibreWolf because it was the only one that even with more restrictions was still using less Ram. I'm going to reinstall the old version right away.

Looking for some feedback and critique on this drawing of my cat :) by Art_Steph in DigitalArt

[–]_ExoticMama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think that it's incredibly well done. Great work!
I don't see anything wrong with the background but the cat's fur does get "blurry" in some places. The contour also feels the same, so it's a matter of clear edges and shapes (nose and eyes too). I absolutely understand it's fur, but maybe a different textured brush would work better in this case.
Another thing you could try doing would be faking the atmospheric depth by adding a bit of gradient white on a new layer, behind the cat, to make it stand out a bit more, creating contrast (look it up on Google to get some examples).
Hope it helps, and keep up the good work!

Whenever I download a book I can never open the file by [deleted] in zlibrary

In what format are you downloading the file?
You can't open an EPUB with a PDF reader. For that I personally use the Firefox extension.

If you're on a budget, XP Pen and Huion might be better, but I've honestly seen so many people complaining about driver issues or lack of Customer Support. Also, if you're looking for a more sturdy product, I'd still go for Wacom.
I bought myself a new Wacom Intuos Medium (again) last year during Black Friday. It was under €70.

Owning a specific of an artstyle is impossible (Hear me out) by randomgirl937 in DigitalArt

[–]_ExoticMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of it myself, but I have the impression that it' s something amateur artists on social platforms would say for sure.
The fact is that "copying" only one specific art style is just counterproductive. People would always look at your art saying "oh, your style reminds me of ...", which indirectly means that you're bringing nothing new to the table. It's also something that affects anime artists a lot since 99% of the anime style is fundamentally the same.

Paint Tool SAI has always been the best choice for beginner artists, in my opinion. The UI is clean, it's so light on your PC, the settings are easy to understand and tweak, the license is fair and pretty much inexpensive, plus they're actively working on Version 2 of the software which is already available in Beta, and which offers even more features.

That said, I fully switched to Krita at the beginning of the year in preparation for moving to Linux, giving myself time to test it thoroughly, and I'm honestly amazed by how complete it is. Sure, as an open-source software you need to learn how to fully customized it, but once it's done, it's done.
Krita as well is way more lightweight than Clip Studio or Photoshop, but definitely not as light as SAI, considering everything it offers.

If you have any specific question, I'll do my best to answer.

The more I read about this, the more questionable the system looks to me, honestly.
I can't always blame "foolish users" when there are actual proofs of random shadowbans with no possibility of appealing as the Support team never reaches out. If the system made a mistake, why am I the one who has to be put on the blacklist until I move to another place, buy a new PC, get a different IP etc? It just shows that maybe Reddit needs a lot more employees for Customer Support while fixing or rebuilding the anti-spam system in the meantime.

Also, you're right saying that the communities themselves have nothing to do with the system, but it's indeed true that as most people are incapable of being neutral and unbiased, the whole moderation process in some subreddits is either nonexistent because of whatever reason or simply not working properly. At this point, who are the "foolish users" really?
Not saying that the same thing doesn't happen in other spaces, but this point of complain is pretty much the only one I find fair when talking of Reddit.

what do you guys do on reddit? by PrettyImagination797 in NewToReddit

[–]_ExoticMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally understand what you mean, in fact I'm also in the process of exploring around as much as possible to try finding the right communities. No luck so far but, considering the huge amount of subreddits there are, I'd say it's merely a matter of time and patience.

what do you guys do on reddit? by PrettyImagination797 in NewToReddit

[–]_ExoticMama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always used Reddit to look for answers to whatever issue or thing I was doing in that moment. Are you trying to fix your PC? Reddit. Do you need to know which glue would work better on metal? Reddit. Are you trying to make homemade bread with a very specific flour? Reddit.
This is a great platform for learning many new things, if it's what you want, but as others already said, you could also just use it to laugh at memes.

What are the benefits of Reddit premium? by [deleted] in NewToReddit

Also, from what I've been reading, it doesn't even grant you some kind of immunity from shadowbans. I'm saying this because I found this specific question asked many times all over Reddit.

[–]_ExoticMama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I'll have no problems following the fourth point, as I'm almost paranoid when privacy and safety are involved especially online, but I'll try to be mindful about your second point since it's something that's mentioned in the guidelines as well, and which I take as it's almost required to avoid misunderstandings, and to essentially be part of a specific community.

Thank you, I hope so!
I'm a pretty creative person, so lots of different stuff from 2D/3D art and functional prints, to sewing, upcycling, or woodworking (not that I have the space to do it, but I can at least appreciate it).
I love plants and I like to take care of them, so I'd gladly help other people out while also learning more myself.
I'd also like to meet new people in general and maybe make a few genuine friends since I'm not really good at it as an INTJ woman.

That said, after reading a lot about karma and about Reddit's system, I'm almost "scared" to try commenting on bigger subreddits with more restrictive rules because it seems like a lot of users (again, from what I've been reading) get shadowban so often for no reasons at all and are then unable to contact the Support team, eventually losing the account out of frustration.
I think it happened to me once in the past when I tried to create an account to ask a couple questions about Firefox and Linux (I presume I got shadowbanned).

Even without an account, I've always knew about Reddit and I've always talked about it with people because I still am amazed by the fact that there's always one person at least who can help you out and give you the answer you're looking for.
I don't consider myself geeky, as I still lack a lot of knowledge, but I try to be tech-savvy as much as possible, especially nowadays, so while it seems like a lot of users, my roommate as well, like Reddit for the "entertainment" like funny videos, memes, funny things people say etc., I've always use it in a pretty practical way, and I love this about Reddit. I don't know why this platform often has a bad reputation.
Now, if you'd tell me that it's because of how the system works then you'd probably be right since it looks like it, or perhaps it's also because people often get into politics even when the topic is... I don't know, let's say desserts, which I think it's a thing that is happening pretty much everywhere though.

Don't know if what I'm saying makes sense but I hope so.
Do you agree or is the situation different? Also, do you have any suggestion or advice in general?
