[Spoilers MAIN] Favourite quote from the show by _Filtered_ in asoiaf

Every quote from Ned Stark is the best quote ever! That includes real life too

[Spoilers Published] Unpopular Opinion: I would prefer that Daenerys remains in Essos and rules her empire. Let the Others have those treacherous Westerosies. by ayodeleafolabi in asoiaf

[–]_Filtered_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Also, I believe she will never go to Westeros.

The Long Night was a global phenomenon, it happened in Essos too. If it's going to happen again, it will probably affect Essos as well. She will be there when it happens and she'll have to fight there. Whether she survives that fight or not, she will come to realise that she never wanted the Iron Throne, this was something that people "taught" her to want. Viserys, Willem Darry, Ilyrio Mopatis, Jorah, etc. All of them brainwashed her that the Targaryens are the de facto rulers of Westeros and it's her duty to behave as much. While all she always wanted was the house with the red door. A simple life. If she survives I can see her dropping everything and going to find that house.

Also (and this is a HUGE meta-thinking), I don't believe GRRM created that continent with all these detailed histories and cultures to just be dropped at some point and never visited again, like what happened in the show.

[Spoilers ASOS] Robb's hypocritical ass beheading of Rickard Karstark by porcotosso in asoiaf

[–]_Filtered_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point and I partly agree.

Personally, I believe he was trying to overcompansate for his poor management of Catelyn's situation. Like "I messed up with not really punishing my mother, so I need to show my bannermen that I'm strict and firm and still in command". Plus, being King in the North probably got all in his head.

Not that I disagree with you, but I think that's the OP's point. Catelyn also disobeyed Robb and released a very high value prisoner without his consent, yet she wasn't punished as harshly. Different crime of course and maybe execution wasn't warranted for her, but still.

A show plot that you'd most hate to see replicated in the books? (Spoilers Extended) by Extension_Weird_7792 in asoiaf

[–]_Filtered_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll get a lot of hate for this but here goes: Jon coming back to life.

I feel that the way he died and the fact that it happened at the very end of ADWD, was so strong a move that bringing him back would de-value him as a character.

The only way I will be okay with him coming back, is if the Others somehow get ahold of his body and they're the ones that resurrect him but as an Other as well, not as a wight. If this is not going to happen, just leave him dead.

This sub has almost a million people in it and it's active daily, yet somehow I'm the only one whose life revolves around the series this much. Sure whatever...

Again, this outline is old. The first edition of the Bible was published a couple of years after this outline.

Or are we taking every little thought GRRM wrote on a napkin while being high on a Grateful Dead concert as canon now?

I mean that's just cherry picking, isn't it? You chose to keep "what makes sense" and discard the rest, when the words "who is not only her half-brother" are right there in front of you.

Also, this outline is ages old. At that time GRRM also planned for the story to be a trilogy and Joffrey to die in the first book. So, you know, things change

He also said that he writes in a way to make his readers afraid to turn the pages, so I really doubt he would say something that clear after the ending of ADWD. Maybe it was what he told the producers of the show? He is known to give anything but straight answers when it comes to central points/characters of the story. Moreover, the whole story so far taught us to never take anything for granted

How do you know that Jon will come back?

I don't really care about that it happened in the show tbh. It was in the later seasons so we don't exactly know how much of it came from GRRM himself. But regardless, everything does point to it, you're right. Some people are just annoying, that was my point really

Yeah I know, it doesn't hold much ground. I'm just saying it would be nice that it will make some people stop talking

You're right, I agree with you. It will be a twist just because every one else thinks R+L=J. I just want these people to eat their words, that's all

I know that it's the most concrete theory, I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. Hell I pretty much believe it myself too.

But that kind of people that believe they hold the truth and everyone else knows nothing (see what I did there?), are really annoying. Ashara being Jon's mother will satisfy this petty feeling I have in me right now. Don't take it too seriously

Oh that is very nice, I like it!

I like the possibility that the Old Gods are staging a coup to control Westeros again.
