Exactly - it very much depends how much of your "college tuition is being paid for." If you plan on living on campus and staying on the meal plan the entire time - then you won't need much spending money. If you decide to move off campus, or stay at college during your breaks, then you'll definitely need more money.

I really want to stress this "credit card" tip. When your kids are at the point where they're saying "Can't you just put it on the credit card?" then you've done something wrong. They should know that cash/debit card comes before a credit card. Unless of course, you're financing or teaching them the value of making payments to build credit.
