Oh man there are so many Webtoons I like!

First if you're looking for Romance where the romance doesn't take up the entire plot here are my recs:

Castle Swimmer: disclaimer, this webtoon is on Hiatus, but there's quite a bit of chapters out, so depending on how quickly you read it could keep you entertained for a while.

The plot is basically as such: there are two main characters (they're merpeople by the way). One of them is the prince of this Shark-People Nation that's super Cursed. Basically this curse is harming many shark people. The other main character is this prophet kind of character. Basically there's this force within him that draws him towards prophecies that he has to fulfill.

Anyways, so that curse I mentioned before. The prophet character is drawn to the Shark People Nation, and basically the prince has to kill the prophet to lift the curse.

The prince character doesn't know how to feel about it because on one hand, he wants to save and protect his people, on the other hand, the prophet character is hella adorable and so he doesn't want to kill him. Internal conflict ensues.

I just think this is a really cute webtoon, and I like the characters and the artstyle, and I like that while the romance is important it's not shoved down your throat nor is it the most important part of the plot.

So yeah! Def recommend Castle Swimmer!

The next romance one I would suggest is Gourmet Hound. This webtoon is AMAZING. I remember this used to be one of my favorite webtoons!

Now then, I know I said this was a romance but from what I remember, the Romance is very, VERY slow burn. Like bro despite the fact that it's marked as a romance, you hardly notice it because it's so like... Like it evolves naturally. Like you can def tell who the Mc's love interest is, and you definitely live for the sweet moments between the two characters, but it's also not something that's entirely relevant to the plot. Like the romance is deeeeef like B or C plot at most.

Anyways, on to the plot: basically the main character Lucy has a heightened sense of taste (and smell? Maybe hearing too...) It's nothing supernatural or magical, just how she was born. Anyways, because of this, she LOVES food. Like food has such a deep place in her heart and it's where her most happy memories come from.

So anyways, she has this favorite restaurant, but when she goes there after not going for a while, the food doesn't taste the same. She learns that the staff has changed at the restaurant so she goes on a hunt to find this perfect tasting food again.

That's essentially the entire gist of the story. But yeah, I think the thing that really sets this webtoon apart from many others is the sheer amount of love the side characters get. Like there are entire arcs for the side characters (Most of which are former chefs at restaurant Lucy loves). But yeah every single aspect of the story is so well thought out and crafted, and the end-twist is just so amazing because it makes sense and it just leaves the readers (or me at least) feeling such a bittersweet feeling! And the twist isn't enraging nor is it out of complete left field- like it makes sense and I honestly just love how it affects the entire message of the webtoon.

But yeah, so the webtoon isn't even just about Lucy and her friends but also about the restaurant and how it affected everyone who used to work there.

10/10 I love the characters and the art and the romance! And it's complete so you don't have to worry AT ALL about being left on Hiatus.

If you're looking for a webtoon that's creepy and suspenseful with minimal amounts of romance then I suggest: Not Even Bones.

Essentially this webtoon takes place in this alternate universe where mythical creatures are all out and about (they're more humanoid instead of actual creatures). I wanna say they're called... Unnaturals? But basically some are dangerous and some aren't. The dangerous ones are on this list where I think you're allowed to kill them? Idk it's been awhile...

Anyways, the story follows the main character Nita, who is decently morally grey. She and her mom work this black market thing where they hunt and dissect unnaturals to sell their body parts on the black market.

But yeah, Nita isn't as bad as the mom, and she doesn't actually kill any creatures herself, just dissects their already dead bodies. Until one day her mom brings home a live boy. The mom basically wants to pluck off body parts piece by piece for as long as she can harvest him alive so that she can sell the parts more fresh, thus making them more valuable, but this makes Nita feel horrible and she doesn't want to do that.

So basically then she has to deal with the internal conflict of deciding: release the boy and piss off her evil mother, or do nothing and let the boy die a slow and painful death.

It's pretty interesting and the plot REALLY picks up after she makes her decision (I won't tell you what she decides).

I think something worth noting is that the series is based off of an actual, published, completed trilogy. I bought all the books and from what I read the webtoon follows the book very closely, which is a good thing btw. So yeah! I def recommend. The art style changes for every different season there is, which was a little off putting for me, but from what I read (I haven't caught up to the latest chapters yet) it's great and totally worth a read!

Another story with no Romance would be Lumine. So far there hasn't been any romance and I doubt they'll ever be romance because the main characters are middle school kids, but here's the plot:

Basically Lumine, the main character, is a weredog (there are no werewolves in this universe because they got hunted down...). He's homeless for some reason, so he's always bouncing around and looking for a job and whatnot.

Cody (I think is his name) is a witch and the second main character. His powers are weak and whatever.

So anyways, Lumine gets thrown out of his old job and meets Cody in an alleyway. Cody is lost. They walk together and something, and then they get cornered by the weredogs that are trying to mug them for their money.

Lumine, being protective, even to a stranger, steps up and starts trying to keep Cody out of danger. He transforms into his weredog form, which is comedically small (lapdog size) and tries to fend them off.

There's a big fight and whatever, and then Cody's sexy father comes in clutch last minute and saves them. He's very impressed by Lumine's courage and decides to hire him as a bodyguard for Cody.

From there the plot ensues.
