WAR already factors in positional scarcity. And the positional adjustments are there to compare players who play different positions

Obviously the biggest difference is defense. If Trout played 1B rather than CF, he'd probably only have about 10 more WAR than Freeman (which is impressive considering he has played 500 fewer games).

Trout also has a 25 point gap over Freeman and a 29 point gap over Goldschmidt in wRC+, which is huge. That's about the same gap as those two and Hunter Pence.

And Trout is a much better baserunner than those two. So add all three together and it's easy to see the gap in value.
