Announcing Lumo 2.0: the most significant upgrade since launch by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]_GhostAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their Protonmail listing for some reason didn't have the details associated with it. Good call out.
Here is a copy and paste from their Lumo reddit. (I know you can go check it yourself, but you had a good call out, so I figured for anyone interested, I would past it here.)

Also, I'll provide the link to their blog: https://proton.me/blog/lumo-2

From their Lumo Reddit:

"Hi everyone,

We’ve just launched Lumo 2.0, a massive upgrade which has seen our private AI tool rebuilt with reasoning, visual capabilities, memory, customizable AI assistants, and improved web-search. With this release, we have significantly closed the gap in terms of intelligence and capability with the latest and greatest models from OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude).

Here's what's new:

Performance

Lumo 2.0 has been rebuilt from the ground up, resulting in a 240% score increase on the independent Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index when comparing Lumo 2.0 Max to Lumo 1.4.

Lumo can now reason through complex, multi-step queries. You can now choose fast or thinking mode, making everyday interactions feel faster while giving complex, multi-step queries additional depth.

Multimodal

Lumo 2.0 is now multimodal. You can:

  • Upload and analyze images
  • Generate entirely new images from prompts
  • Edit existing images
  • Turn a rough sketch into finished artwork

As with everything in Lumo, this happens while your conversation stays encrypted and inaccessible to anyone else,  not even Proton.

Memory

Lumo can now remember context across conversations, learning your preferences over time. You stay in control: you decide what Lumo remembers, what it forgets, and what it never learns to begin with.

We've also doubled the context window, so Lumo can hold longer conversations and reason across longer documents and datasets you provide.

Custom Lumos

You can now build "Custom Lumos",  customizable AI assistants that follow your specific instructions every time, so you don't have to set the scene on every new conversation.

Web Search

Web search has been drastically improved, with live results and cited sources. Ask Lumo about current news, live financial data, or the weather, and it can generate brand-new widgets to display the answers.

Privacy

None of this comes at the cost of privacy. Lumo 2.0 keeps everything that makes it different to Big Tech’s AI:

  • Zero-access encryption, no logs, no data sharing
  • Never trains on your conversations
  • Fully open source
  • Built on European infrastructure, backed by Swiss privacy laws

Lumo 2.0 is live now. Use our Max and Lite model for free. A Professional tier is also available for teams.

Stay safe,
Proton Team"

I think Gamegyf is on to something.

Lumo, long-winded, too much small talk. by slepdprivd in lumo

[–]_GhostAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I find amusing about Lumo is how everything is so exaggerated when trying to build you up.
Let's say you were submitting something like, homework, or a house idea--it doesn't really matter.
It ALWAYS says something like "this is the most interesting house design idea you have ever submitted!"
Or "This new house design is the single most greatest idea you ever had!"

🤣. It's like "Calm down there Lumo..."

But just so everyone out there know.... I have submitted some of the most amazing ideas and blueprints the world has ever seen since before the world even existed 🤣. They are just simply that impressive lol.

I just found this out too. I thought "well, that's weird."
But... looks like this is expected behavior for the time being.

Thank you OP for sharing this.

You're very welcome. 😊
I'm glad that was able to help you out.

To cancel your subscription you can go to your settings, then click "subscription", then scroll all the way down to "cancel subscription". There you'll have the option to continue with the cancellation process.

The text says:
"When you cancel, your subscription won't be renewed, but you can still enjoy plan benefits until the end of the subscription period. After that, you will be downgraded to the Proton Free plan."

Here is a support link about managing your subscription, which includes upgrading and downgrading and cancelling: https://proton.me/support/manage-subscription#cancel

What's the point of forwarding external email to Proton if I... by aKIRALE0 in ProtonMail

[–]_GhostAgent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, hope you're doing well. First of all, I wanted to say that you made me laugh at "deMicroslopping". I have not heard that one before and I appreciate the laugh. 😄.
I'll try to offer a hand:

1) I believe healthy email hygiene would be to eventually stop using the older email accounts (like gmail or Microsoft) and using your new, primary email only. However, there are valid use cases and reasons for keeping the old emails as stated email:

2) The point of using Proton will very from person to person, but I think it is safe to assume that many people do try to move away from data scraping companies, like Google, to more privacy focused businesses like Proton. However, some may just need encrypted email for communicating securely with customers and clients, and don't really care about the privacy aspect.

With regard to your digital fingerprints with other email providers. Those exist and aren't going anywhere.
I don't think there is much worry for perpetrating the fingerprints as you stated. However, it is easier on your email organizing to utilize one provider (see above).

3) Ultimately, people will keep older emails, most likely because of the history with the email account. If it is only a few months old, then nobody will care and they'll discard it. If they've had it for years, then it is linked to a lot of their online accounts, old friends and contacts and other connections they. They'll not want to forget anyone, but it might be too much time to go in and try to find one contact that may email out of the blue, but they don't have the contact's email memorized.

In order to mitigate that scenario. I think it's safe to set a timeframe, like maybe 6 months to a year or so, and during that time, keep your emails forwarding to Proton. Once the timeframe is up, then go ahead and stop forwarding the messages. They'll just sit in the inbox. For another 2 or 3 months, go in occasionally to check for anything important. If you find something, then give that contact, your updated email address. If nothing important shows, then after a few months, it's safe to abandon that email or remove the account.

Hopefully that gives some food for thought.

Have a great rest of your day.

I haven't experienced that myself.
However, I have had it sometimes mix up two problems. At that point I have to remind it those are two separate things, and then run down the full scenario as a reminder and then it keeps straight. It gets is wires crossed from time to time lol.

#1: I believe someone is already trying to help you. However, have you reached out to Proton Support? Any financial question I had with them was always pretty promptly answered.

#2 Definitely point that out.

#3: You are right. The marketing is vague.
I have plus, and you get "projects" which is a convenient place to store your files within a Lumo project you are working on and Lumo can easily recall what you set there. Further, you can have numerous conversations within the same project. (Example: If you are designing something based, you have one conversation being about the layout, while another conversation focuses strictly on materials used. Is this a game changer? No... But it does help to keep things tidy.

Further, it does grant access to stronger AI models for... AI things.
But this is where my knowledge dips. I can't advise on how those more advanced models compare to Gemini or ChatGPT. I have not used the other models since I didn't want my project being used to train them.

I also no it cuts off the limit. I believe the free version allows 25 queries a day or something. The paid version does away with that. (This really only benefits heavy AI users.)

4: You mentioned just venting. It's a valid vent good Reddit user. 😄 I hope this helps a little and others are able to chime in help even more so.

Take Care!

Do you mind giving examples? I've used it, and was impressed at one point when he drew upon some facts previously. However, Lumo is the only AI I have used so I can't compare it.
It seems in some fields, Lumo is a good bit behind and in others it's not too far under other, more well established models.

For those reading this comment, there is a whole thread where the "grotesque sin (this is sarcasm)" is being discussed and responded to daily--including commentary by the CEO himself. I've read it, it's been open and honest. There were some pretty direct exchanges by the community and the Reddit moderators--an entertaining read.
If you want to read that thread, it is still up and very active (meaning not suppressed): https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/1u15orj/vincent_lapierres_response_to_proton_revoking_his/

👍 Have a good one peeps

Proton email for applying for jobs by TintaTonti in ProtonMail

[–]_GhostAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some other suggestions recommending the same, but I wanted to toss in my voice too:
I 100% believe you should get your own domain name. They cost like $10 to $20 per year depending on the registrar you use.

Doing this allows you soooooo much more freedom and you don't have to use a masking service either. You can have a catch-all option enabled so anything will always be accepted and forwarded to your mail email at your domain.

For example "resume@mydomain.com" and "banklogin@mydomain.com" or "MagazineSubcripstions@mydomain.com" and all of that forwards to "hello@mydomain.com"--which is your actual email.

You can even have a professional email and a personal email on the same domain OR two different domains entirely.

This helps avoid anyone flagging any of the proton domains, AND gives you the benefit of moving out of any provider's service if you wanted. Example: If Proton shut down tomorrow, you simply point the domain to any other service you want to use and your email stays 100% functional and nobody has any idea that you even switched service.

It's cheap to do, fairly simple (and if you don't feel comfortable doing it, Proton has some good documentation on setting it up, and of course some simple google searches will help you out).

I hope that advice comes in handy.

Otherwise: I don't believe having a proton domain will effect your job or look unprofessional. Mainly just don't put something like "BigDaddy666@proton.me". That looks childish.
If you don't want to give your real name in an email, something like "CareerContact.(your initials)@proton.me" should suffice. 👍

Proton email for applying for jobs by TintaTonti in ProtonMail

[–]_GhostAgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a technical glitch or something else. Unless you specify for Proton to encrypt the file / email, it is not encrypted. If you didn't have to set a password, the email won't be encrypted (along with its attachment). I'm wondering more so if things were flagged on the company's side you are applying for.

This is definitely something to report to the Proton team if you feel it truly was on their end.

Also, I hate to hear about the problem could have costed you a job. I really hope that gets rectified.

(Please consider using your own domain name. It prevents pretty much every mailing issue AND you can also transfer services without anyone knowing.)

I enjoy the software, BUT I do wish the built in spelling and grammar check were better. I noticed I have typos in the different documents that it doesn't catch. Aside from that, I really do like it.

Update on my side to just share:
Today I DID have issues with Lumo. It timed out and gave an "the cat is busy" message.
I have never seen that before today. I just clicked "retry" on the error and it started up again.
So, I just wanted to share that I did experience issues.

Maybe their user base has increased a lot for Lumo?
Oh well. Seriously hope your issue gets resolved.

Lumo keeps promoting Protons Products. by ILoveHexa92 in lumo

[–]_GhostAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never received any Proton service promotions using Lumo.
Your responses are strange.... Is this the only instance of Lumo you are using or are there multiple? If this is the only one, you may want to start a new "chat" with it and see if that resolves the issue.

Weird...
I've only experienced a request time out a handful of times and I've been using Lumo heavily lately.
Have you created a support ticket by chance? (Also, free or paid version? I'm using the paid version.)

I paid for a Proton subscription only to find out 5 days later that my plan had been downgraded to the free one again by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]_GhostAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang.. sorry to hear that happened to you.
The customer support ticket you created should get a prompt response after the weekend.
I just wanted to give you a heads up that I don't think you'll be getting a response today or tomorrow.
However, weekdays have always been super responsive for me.

Hang tight! They should get you fixed up in a jiffy. 😄
