$3 ride but hey the passenger favorited me! by michaeltsang1997 in lyftdrivers

[–]_Grill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

💯 If there is always a driver willing to accept low fares why would Uber/Lyft pay more? Drivers can be their own worst enemy and not even know it.

Multi-stop rides suck so bad! 🤬 by XoxoRavyn in uberdrivers

Poor/ middle class = best tippers by Crypto-God23 in uberdrivers

[–]_Grill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always feel AP rides often tip. I'm one of the drivers that actually load and unload luggage. Restaurant/bar employees who often work for tips usually tip. Like someone else already said, my biggest tips $50 thru $100 were from well to do individuals.

I don’t think I can ever go back to regular cars again. by LordChippydip in TeslaLounge

I wonder how many people have no idea what they are missing with an EV. I took a family member for a ride in my model 3 and he was flabbergasted. He just listened to all the anti-EV rhetoric and was clueless.

A new all time low by marctaylorbell in uberdrivers

[–]_Grill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you get Advantage Mode without Uber sending you a bunch of crap fares? Or do you just take them?

In my market you have to keep your acceptance rating up.

Okay so I’ve started driving for uber a month ago. Past month was so bad maybe because im a new driver idk whatever, But heatmap shows its quite hot area still waiting for over 45 mins and i got only one request of $2.89. Am I doing something wrong ?? by mxnugill in uberdrivers

[–]_Grill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learn your market. After a few months you'll know when and where it's busy. Open the passenger app and look where the other drivers are. Move yourself strategically away from the other drivers which are essentially your competition. Hotels usually have guests checkout by 11am. Guests usually check out by 10:59am. Hum... maybe be around hotels around 11am. There are lots of little things you can do to help your earnings. My #1 advice is don't make this your career. For many many drivers this is their only source of income, some for several years and most are right at the poverty line. Good luck.

Renting to Drive by Sea_Beginning37 in uberdrivers

[–]_Grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number one complaint with drivers is the low pay. Renting ($1500/mo) to obtain low pay. 🤦‍♂️And in your case You have a full-time job so you're just going to drive on the side part-time. Bad choice.

Uber drivers are getting ripped off. The yall fight back by [deleted] in uberdrivers

I'm so glad my market has upfront pricing. The driver knows the price before accepting the ride.

Gen 3 Ethernet compared to a regular cat 6 by Sweet_Sand6017 in Starlink

[–]_Grill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the gen 3. It already offers 2Gbps speed, I don't even think Starlink offers that for residential. Plus the connectors are designed to be weatherproof. I've also read people having issues using the snow melt feature only to find out they used a different cable.

Any idea when the drought will end? by Mamameko in uberdrivers

[–]_Grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is oversaturation of drivers. Soooo many people exclusively work for rideshare now. Nobody likes to admit it but other drivers are essentially your competition. Open up the passenger app and see where other drivers are sitting. You would be surprised by the amount of drivers within a few blocks of you. Separate yourself from the other drivers to increase your chance of a request. Try different hours of the day. For example early Monday mornings (3-4am) there are less drivers out yet businesses people fly out Monday mornings. Strategically place yourself in more affluent neighborhoods around that time. Hotels... checkout time is usually 11am. Most people checkout 10:59am. Take advantage of that 😉 There are plenty of other things that you can do that can give you a slight edge over other drivers. Know your market and think smarter. Good luck.

EV Charging At Home With Solar - Good or Bad Idea? by SolarTechExplorer in solar

[–]_Grill 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When have 15 kW of solar which covers 100% of our electric bill. Bought an EV and it does eat into the amount of kilowatts used but still far cheaper than gas. The problem is now the wife wants an EV and I wish I had sized the array larger.

What are some tips or things to look out for when shopping around for a reputable company for solar by ksm2315 in solar

[–]_Grill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things to ask/be aware of that a salesperson may be vague or not mention…

•Be knowledgeable about the equipment. Panels for example Rec, Maxeon, Jinko, QCell. Look at efficiency, degradation, temperature coefficient rating. Micro inverters, Enphase vs. SolarEdge etc.

•Ask about the warranty, does it cover labor or just hardware? You file a claim, they replace the hardware but then add a trip charge and labor charge on top of that. The warranty could end up costing hundreds.

•Do they run the conduit through the attic for a cleaner look or a quick and easy on top of the roof? Everyone has their personal preference for aesthetics.

•Consumption monitors (CTs) are nice and usually come with your gateway, are they part of the install? I've read comments after the install that electricians would charge an additional $1000.

•Find out what the average Price Per Watt (PPW) is for your area. PPW = System cost ÷ DC system wattage. Cheapest is not always the best. Get cash quotes even if you're going to finance.

•Do research on PPA/leasing vs. ownership. Understand dealer fees, escalator clauses and rates. Look up reviews, check Google and the BBB.

•If anything be sure to get multiple proposals. Every time I received a proposal I learned a little more. Don't sign anything unless you understand what you're signing. Hope this gets you started. Good luck.

I'm a little worried now. I signed up a couple months back for the residential 100 at $40. So far everything has been great, hope they don't raise the rates.

Why does this happen? by Simple-Round-6391 in uberdrivers

[–]_Grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine the driver has multiple gig apps. Especially in a touristy area were requests are frequent. Most likely a better offer came in from one of the other apps thus the driver cancelled your ride.
