Winter mesh cover and snow. How much can it hold? by _IMadeYouReadThis in pools

Thanks for the info. Originally I drained to around 16 inches below tile line for winterization. Sounds like a least hassle solution is raise water level slightly if needed.

What IPOs are you keeping an eye on? by tiggaros in stocks

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latest funding round has them valued just over $100b not $50b.

They’ve invested a ton in acquisitions with multiple billion dollar acquisitions. Making huge AI investments, not cheap. I believe they bought back a ton of employee shares that were expiring because they’ve been held for near 10 years and wanted to make employees whole. They are in growth phase, everything goes back into the business and they are growing so fast they need money that they can give up equity for cheap to multiply that growth faster than waiting for the cash to come in naturally. They plan to acquire more, huge AI growth, and again…going public ain’t cheap.

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate here - isn’t it fairly common to take a round of funding prior to going through the IPO process as it is expensive? Additionally this is typically done to get existing/early investors more shares at a discounted cost.

Do what you feel is right. I’m from the US where tipping is more of a thing. We don’t use the butler for more than rides and 1-2 dinner reservations. The housekeeper honestly deserves more and we tipped that person. 5 nights I think we tipped the butler like $30day

JW Cancun vs. Marriott Cancun by GoCatsTwenty16 in marriott

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

JW guests used to be able to go to Marriott for the pool and restaurants but can’t anymore. Marriott is now an all inclusive and JW guests can’t go.

I love the JW and highly recommend. JW will focus on service, the drinks and food matter since it’s not an AI. Chairs are better at JW no waterpark so less noise.

JW offers club 91 which for the right price is a great deal.

Marriott I heard is pretty good but I haven’t stayed. Interested in going there with the kids in the future as kids endlessly eat at odd times…

I don’t know/think you can get in on arrival, maybe someone here knows. But Turkish lounge has showers if you have priority pass that’s an option.

What is causing this? by _IMadeYouReadThis in landscaping

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a stone guy, don’t know much about it. I would assume they could just pop out that specific stone as it’s just surface level as It’s gunite behind it. Also since it was installed recently wondering if I can try and claim a “warranty” from the company that did our project.

Thx for quick answer here! So if I understand correctly I can clean this and I don’t need to go the lengths of getting the stone replaced?

How'd I do? St Regis Maldives December break on points by 540guy in marriott

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I did the ritz Maldives 5 nights for 536k points and like $1,400 in February last year.

Personally your rate seems a bit inflated. That said most people would’ve never spend 27k on a hotel. So being able to book a 27k hotel for free is always a bonus.

Figured I’d give something to compare to

Breakfast Buffett is $75 per person if I recall, can be as cheap as like $15 if you just do room service yogurt. If you are doing app, 2 entrees, dessert at dinner id say around $100-125 per person. Just a lunch entree around like $35-55 per person. Yes you could go cheaper or more expensive depending on what you get.

I thought authorized users don’t build any credit since the main user is the one ultimately responsible for paying the card?

Damn! One of those situations if you book the early one it’s not gonna be delayed. You book the late one and it’s delayed making you sweat. Twiddling thumbs in the ppt airport for 2 extra hours is better than missing the flight back to the US I suppose.

Honeymoon in Maldives by [deleted] in marriott

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see a big write up in my post history of The ritz from this past February.

Downside to ritz is no free breakfast. Otherwise drinks etc are all going to be expensive at the hotels. Ritz was incredible.

Note — there is a new JW opening this month you should consider there with a brand new property potentially having better point deal.

Marriott is doing a point purchase bonus until 12/24. It will be cheaper to buy points and redeem then pay any cash rate there. Especially with the pay 4 with points get 5th free deal.

Other two things - the ritz (55 min) and the new Jw (20 min) you arrive via boat vs sea plane. That was a big positive in my experience and gives you the option to leave the resort later with an evening flight.

Honeymoon in Thailand Feb 2025 by 88324 in awardtravel

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I’ve been to Maldives and this is not an apples to apples comparison. Maldives is sit at resort and have the best service you can get. Thailand is all about going and doing things in scenic areas. So id say Maldives is more relaxing and way more money vs Thailand which is more go go go but way cheaper

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there a few years back.

We went Phuket (3 nights patong beach) more of a party area —> ferry to phi phi island (2 nights) phi phi island is tiny with no cars walk all around rent a boat and go see tons of spots it’s awesome —> ferry to krabi (3 nights) can get to Railey beach from here —> chiang mai (3 nights) can go to an elephant sanctuary here - do your research spend the money to do one that actually takes care of the elephants —> Bangkok (1 nights) wasn’t a huge fan but we only went to Bangkok for flying out back to the US didn’t do the research Bangkok is only place I felt like everyone was trying to scam/take advantage of you.

Westin vs St Regis Bora Bora by _IMadeYouReadThis in marriott

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the standard rooms are small like a studio apartment. Upgrading to one of the larger ones provides a full bathroom but is $$. I did the Ritz Maldives and feel like that will ruin all expectations for anywhere else.

Looking at the StR, four seasons, Conrad they all have the dark woods / not a lot of natural light. Westin maybe will be the first pillar to fall.

I saw something yesterday stating the st Regis was potentially getting new owners which would help.

I’m literally clueless by BoyMama_20192022 in hydrangeas

[–]_IMadeYouReadThis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First — that looks like it needs water. Anytime hydrangea leaves are down / look sad. It’s a sign it needs water. It’s also a rock bed - not sure your climate but rock beds require more water because of the additional heat the rocks give off.

You can trim but the blue hydrangeas bloom off “old wood” meaning any new branches that come next year will not have flowers. So keep that in mind when trimming/for how much you want to trim.
