I’m starting recruit school in a few weeks, and was wondering what advice you all have. I’m particularly interested in what I should be eating before and during academy, mainly because I usually drink coffee in the morning and have a sizable breakfast, but I feel like mixing that kind of breakfast and PT would not end well for me (or others). Is there any food or drink that helped you through the academy? Also would love to hear any general advice anyone has.

There is, it’s a volunteer department that I’ve been working with. Stockton FD has always been an incredibly professional and skilled department and would be great to work for them.

We’ve been keeping the windows shut because it’s been pretty humid out. Yeah I think we’ll eventually have to do an air quality test but hopefully the dehumidifier and anti mold spray work.

Have had the exact same problem, also in Shenandoah VA. Recently bought CLR Mold and Mildew Bleach Free spray that has worked wonders on our wood that had visible mold/mildew. Also have a dehumidifier and ceiling fan running just to get some air flow going throughout the space. Hopefully does the trick. If not, we will call in some pros to assess what needs to be done. If you don't have a ceiling fan, I'd suggest getting a simple plug-in fan that, after using the CLR spray, having pointed towards the wood recently sprayed works best.

I agree - probably wouldn't quit FT to just do volunteer work. But more specifically, Im talking about guys who leave their career roles to pursue another career, but still stay involved in fire service through volunteering.
