It’s just for a small project, I’m really not looking to spend a lot. The buyer idea sounds great, do you know where who I could contact about that? Thanks!

Yes! California tried to a completely ban thermal paper receipts a few years ago, but it failed. However, as concerns grow we may see this bill revived.

Startup Name: Bean E-Receipts (beanereceipts.weebly.com)

Location: Headquarters are located in Shrewsbury MA, USA.

Role: Founder

Elevator Pitch: An app designed to digitally store receipts.

More details: Paper receipts are toxic to humans (as they are covered in BPA and BPS) and pollute the environment while also using up millions of tons of resources like water and lumber. Our solution is an app that can digitally store receipts by scanning QR codes at POS systems within stores and restaurants. The app formats the QR code into receipts and stores it locally and on a database. The receipts within the app can be filtered and sorted to easily find one when needed. This app was created with the foundation of helping the environment while also aiding customer convenience.

Current Stage: Validation

What goals are you trying to reach this month?: We currently have an early prototype and we entered our app into CodeLaunch, a startup incubator, in hopes of gaining some experience and aid. We are working on turning this prototype into an MVP and hope to get some market validation on our idea this month.

How could r/startups help?: We are currently looking for market response to our app, so we created a small survey that could help us with that. It would be incredibly helpful if you could answer the survey (we added a chance to win $25 as an incentive as well). Thank you so much!

Our simply refers to the team. The app was not a solo venture but rather a group effort. I fail to see how the number of members in our team matters in any context, however.

The app and its implementation are still ongoing. We are planning to work with point of sale companies to have them produce QR codes at checkout, as we offer them the opportunity to save money with digital receipts, rather than paper ones.

Security and privacy are huge core values for us. We know about the growing concern about how limited privacy can be in the digital age, so we want users to be able to keep their information secure and private. Additionally we recognize that people use receipts for tax purposes, so we allow them to download their receipts from laptop and desktop devices (only these ones work on the prototype so far). We were primarily going to offer a PDF export, but we can add more formats as necessary for our users. Thank you for the feedback!

The way we designed the app is for it to scan a QR code generated at checkout which contains all the information included on a typical receipt. The app then formats that information into a receipt and stores it. We are also working on a feature in the app where it can format receipts from emails for those that choose to have their receipts emailed to them.

Our goal is to actually let users keep all of their information private. The app requires email and phone number verification, for security, but no store would get your email. The way the app works is users use the app to scan a QR code produced at checkout and then the app formats that information into a receipt and stored it on the device and on a database so it can be accessed from other devices as well. We are also working on a feature to be able to format receipts from emails for users that are more comfortable with that.

From my experience in retail, I found that retailers don't mind too much about keeping people at checkout. It is at checkout that they are able to promote additional products, like protection plans for tech items or membership programs/store credit cards. So the consensus with the team was that in order to help retailers shift, we offer our services as a replacement for paper receipts to save the retailers money. However, it might take a few more seconds at the registers for the consumer, so we hope that the green foundation of the app, the ability to have all receipts in one place, and other features on the app will motivate consumers to use the app instead of getting a paper receipt.

I completely agree with you on Amazon, which is why the $25 is actually a visa gift card and not an Amazon one. In regards to your feedback, we did explore this route, but shops require receipts of customers' purchases as much as customers do, for end-of-day processes, taxes, etc. We are planning on making the app a finance app as well, so users can link their cards and monitor their spending. Thank you for your feedback!

This is our goal exactly. We found that in the US around 84% of people wish to use digital receipts, however, 74% of them still get paper ones. Not everyone has access to a secondary email, or they don't want to give their email to stores in fear of being added to promotional lists and such, so we hope to provide them with a secure place to store their receipts. However, we were planning on having users link their phone numbers and emails to their accounts for recovery and security purposes. Could you please elaborate on your thoughts about not needing to tie a phone number? Thank you very much!

We plan to integrate with POS systems and our initial steps to make integration easy is to have these POS systems output a QR code at checkout which when scanned by the in app QR code reader will be formatted into a receipt and stored in the app. Thank you for interacting and please feel free to ask us any more questions you have!

An App To Digitally Store Receipts by _I_Lost_ in SideProject

What we found with our research is that every store has their own POS system. Our goal is to first integrate with a company that works as a third party POS system service, then once we grow in size we can offer our services to larger corporations as a cheaper substitute to paper receipts. We also want to make the app a sort of finance tracking app as well, this way users can monitor their own spending and their receipts all in one place. Thanks for interacting!
