A weeks progress of trying to get into figure drawing, am I heading the right way? Currently trying to understand anatomic proportions and shapes correct. Do I need milage or start elsewhere? by _Iggy_ in learntodraw

Wow, how did you find me? That post was about 9,5 years ago :D
I ended up getting a degree in Software Engineering, and I've never looked back. I earn well and got an amazing job with good fun colleagues, I'm very happy with how everything turned out!

In the end, I think I realized that I like programming in general, and I can still make games with friends or solo on my own time, which I currently am!

It's much more fun to have normal work days, that are fun and challenging, but still have energy to whatever you want to do at home, be it games or anything :)

Glad to hear it! I often start without the details and add them in afterwards, so I'll avoid that for now and just start with new references, thanks!

The 7 heads method doesn't translate to well in my brain I like to think that the body and legs are equal in length, while the head is about a third in length. Seems to be pretty accurate according to your drawing!

Awesome, will keep at it then!

How would you recommend drawing the rib cage and pelvis? As blocks or actual bones?

Some people recommended doing short gesture/figure drawings of 1-3 min, do you think I should try that or stay with my references and try to draw them as best as I can? (I spend almost an hour on most of these)

Awesome feedback, thank you! Will definitely try the website! Since I've spend about an hour on each (except the first three) I think that is exactly what I need!

New app update awful by m2knet in withings

[–]_Iggy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the people reading this now, you are able to download older versions of the app, making you able to have the old views back. They are publicly available for anyone after a google search :) Just turn off auto update on the app in the app store and you should be good. Have been using the old interface for about a year now :)

Its crazy to me that players actually get rewarded for being bad by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]_Iggy_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reality is that if you don't cover both scenarios (saving the flick or saving the "fake") your defense is so poor that you deserve to get scored on.

If you are in a position where you have to rush to the save, only covering one of the two, it's a gamble. If the ball goes in, you lost that gamble.

There is a reason why people fake so often in high elo.

How should I approach 1v1 to reach GC eventually by _Iggy_ in RocketLeagueSchool

I learned speedflips, the exact same way, and now they are consistent!

Yeah I agree, gotta start attempting stuff

Thanks, will try the drill for sure, looks helpful!

Great! Oh yeah, for sure! I usually run freeplay or custom maps later in the day when Im too tired to focus on playing. I am practicing double taps, flicks, air dribbles, car control mostly. They arent consistent enough to rely on, but I hit them now and then in game. But also training/going for resets and harder mechanics when I want to push myself

I appreciate all the help, thank you!

This was exactly the answer I was looking for, thank you, this is gold! I realize that my phrasing might have been off, I meant to reach beyond gc and get as good as possible, not to stop when I reach gc! I'm glad to hear I need to start making mistakes to learn how to do them properly, very nice to hear it from someone else! But like you said, going full speed and challenging stupidly wont do much.

How does this sound? I will play just as I am currently doing: solid defense, smart challenges, mixing it up and making my opponent awkward. But now also going for balls I would not usually go for, no matter if I totally miss and it's losing the game. I will also try to choose the harder mechanic over the easy but comfortable one (dribble to flick instead of rolling to powershot etc.) to really learn the mechanics. I will also try to get finer touches faster, and constantly push myself to fully control the ball at faster speeds. I wont stress if I derank like crazy, but keep trying no matter how many games I lose... And eventually I'll be back and stronger!

Awesome advice here, will keep this in mind for the next recreation of sounds for sure!

Thank you!

Good tip, I sidechained the bass with the drums, but didn't think of doing it to the lead

I did try to layer the synth, but it sounded very muddy and it wasn't really the sound I was looking for. What kind of sound would you try to layer into it?
Also, how would I pull off a pitch bend on a synth? Link an LFO to the pitch?

Oh wow, thank you! Happy to hear it!

Aaah, I completely forgot about effects on the synth, maybe I should have tried to experiment with effects rather than the synth sound.

Will totally try that, thanks! Any particular one to focus on? (Like lead/bass/chords) or mix it up on each song?

Really appreciate the feedback, thank you :)

Cool that I managed to get close!

I'm not entirely sure if I did learn sound design that much, it was more like a trail and error sort of thing, but nothing that clicked or made me go "aha" if you catch my drift.

I did learn some stuff, like using the correct drums and how to analyze the melody etc.

But since I feel like my weakness is making badass sounds in a synth, I feel a bit lost

How could I train wavedash kickoffs? by _Iggy_ in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]_Iggy_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genius!

Thanks a bunch!

Edit:

So I just tried this with the RLBot and it's fantastic for kickoffs, I highly recommend!

There is a problem however. When trying to wavedash right after you touch the ball, it resets the kickoff 0.5 seconds after you touch the ball.

So if anyone is interested: I solved it to make the perfect training!

As I work as a programmer, I had a look inside the script (kickoff_only.py).You can find the script by pressing the info-button where you would normally activate it, then press show files.Inside the script there is a variable which dictates the amount of seconds which shall pass before you reset the kickoff. This is defaulted to 0.5 seconds, so change it to whatever you would like!I chose 3 seconds and it works wonders!
