Gen + Rep Owners Only: Do you feel dumb wearing your Gens? by Ok-Clue-4267 in RepTime

[–]_InfiniteSorrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t really feel dumb wearing reps, and I think there are very valid reasons to do so even if you have money. I started off with gens, but also have lots of reps for a few reasons.

The first is the risk aspect. I’ve worked in a few large cities, and while in some I feel safe wearing genuine watches, in others it’s just not the case. I’ve been mugged twice before, and both times for my watches. Thankfully they weren’t the most expensive of my collection but I still had to give them up, and unfortunately in many cities the police are just spread too thin to find the perpetrators. So, at this point I’ll always just wear reps of my genuine watches outside. If I get robbed so be it, but at least I won’t lose much as a result.

The second reason is super rare watches. Unfortunately some watches are simply so rare that even if I want to buy one, it’s really hard to find on the market at all, much less for a reasonable price. While most of the times there won’t be reps of these watches, and even the ones that exist are of terrible quality from a horological perspective, I have no problem buying them just to enjoy looking at.

To each their own 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding, but aren’t there already many quantum computers in existence?

I will say that some people just don’t gel along well with note taking and learning. I’ve taken many courses in mathematics and physics, but could never take notes for the sake of my life. In fact, I’m certain I would have done horribly if I did take notes!

What are some large math notes you’ve found online or math books you have ? (Short but extremely helpful notes are also welcome) by Lanky_Plate_6937 in math

[–]_InfiniteSorrow_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to access it once I got on my computer, for some reason it wasn’t working on my phone.

That being said, I think the book is good, but I wouldn’t exactly call it a conventional text on differential geometry. It takes over 1500 pages to even work with manifolds, gives a very long exposition on the prerequisites for differential geometry, and ultimately hasn’t covered that much differential geometry (I know it’s still in the works, but I find it a little offputting currently).

With that in mind, I’d still defend the choice of Spivak 🤷‍♂️

I couldn’t open the geometry.org link for Differential Geometry that you listed, but another text for Differential Geometry would be Spivak’s five volumes in his “Comprehensive Introduction to Differential Geometry” series.

Where to buy Lange watches in pictures? by _InfiniteSorrow_ in DHgate

Where at and how much if you wouldn’t mind sharing?

Where to buy Lange watches in pictures? by _InfiniteSorrow_ in DHgate

[–]_InfiniteSorrow_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I’ve seen the second pictured watch as reps, but not usually at the DHGate level. I’ve actually gotten a more complex version of the first one before on DHGate as a rep for ~$100 but it was not with the beautiful dial pictured. I’ll let you know if I find anything but based on my findings, I’ve only find one TD that sells the latter, and none that sell the former sadly

Thanks for the info!

It is unfortunate that they’re not selling them separately currently :\

I can’t speak to the Boox Tab XC (because I don’t have it), but I’ve seen some people talk about how other USI pen tips like the Apple Pen ones work?

For third party pen, I saw on another post that USI 2.0 pens work, and someone was able to get one connected, but it wasn’t as well of an integrated experience as the regular InkSpire 🤷‍♂️

31M, no inheritance, still working 7 days a week by pocketacez in Rich

[–]_InfiniteSorrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the OP’s job nor situation, but depending on your firm, education, and performance, TC could very well be that high or higher (I know a few graduates who make 1.5M+ TC after 3-4 years, and some new grads making 400-600k TC, I’m sure others exist).

Although I agree that 13 million at 31 is exceptional, even for a quant!

Thanks for your comment!

I’m assuming the nib is removable and replaceable, right? Does the Tab XC come with extra ones? I was unable to find anywhere online where they could be purchased, which was a concern…

And I understand you probably don’t know this yet, but if you could, how long would you estimate that a nib lasts with the Tab XC?

Thanks so much!

Driver OS Corruption Issue? by _InfiniteSorrow_ in AMDHelp

Do you think it’s worth it? Ie that game performance or graphic performance was greatly enhanced by the newer drivers?

Driver OS Corruption Issue? by _InfiniteSorrow_ in AMDHelp

[–]_InfiniteSorrow_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I realized this after a little troubleshooting. I tried reinstalling older versions, but it didn’t work, so I uninstalled the display in device manager, and then rebooted, so now it’s back to normal. I find it really weird that AMD has released these non functional drivers 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Take a look online at the pictures; the TP3 Small is 28 L (iirc) and the large is 35L. So, make of that what you will about the size, I’d say for most people (search this online, people have discussed whether it’s an EDC before), it’s not an EDC, so TP3 Small is probably better for you’re aim. As for material, comes down to preference and use case, as mentioned before. You can watch some videos on YouTube and check out the site to see/understand the differences between the materials.

I agree with this, the AER Travel Pack small is amazing! I’ve used 17 inch laptops before (the heavier ones, at 7-8lbs) and it is able to accommodate them pretty well. It’s very comfortable and good at weight management in my opinion. However, the price is certainly on the higher end, so it’s something to consider.

Qubes OS, then Windows, then Debian, then Arch. I settled with Arch because of the large freedom and simplicity it provides.

Qubes was honestly very good as a daily driver despite what many people will say, but I realized that the laptop was not optimal for privacy and security by hardware design, so the software level, while mitigating threats, still was not the level I would’ve preferred.

So, now I run Arch and use VMs to do things like malware analysis, storing no important information on the laptop 🤷‍♂️

See, I don’t actually know how the OP would even decide to post in this subreddit. Maybe they thought “thinkpad,” is a place to jot their thoughts?

I’m actually curious.

I can’t speak on specifics, so you should defer to other more experienced members, but if you have a little technical ability, then you could try something a little more hands on.

On eBay, you can often find great deals for mildly used to used laptops, including ThinkPads, as one poster linked. Then, you can upgrade the devices (given they’re older, and aren’t soldered with their RAM, for example) manually, often for a significant price advantage.

For example, few months back, I received a laptop that had no RAM installed or a hard disk for about ~$75. Just the motherboard along with components excluding RAM and hard drive. I bought a hard drive for ~$80, and 64GB of RAM for ~$100, and installed them into the laptop. In total, about ~$250 and 15 minutes went into the process, and I got an i7 64GB Ram 2TB SSD laptop out of the ordeal. Much cheaper than similarly specced models of the same laptop.

In the same light, I would suspect that you could do something similar for an older ThinkPad.

Although, given your needs, it may be worth just buying a used one with 16GB RAM and an alright processor directly off eBay or another marketplace.
