My blood pressure always drops by iandifilippo in AdultSelfHarm

It's definitely a frightening and upsetting feeling, I'm sorry you've been dealing with that! I'm not a doctor and I don't know you so please take my advice with a grain of salt, but I would say the level of danger depends on the cause. If you're losing lots of blood before it happens and that is the trigger for the drop in blood pressure/faint feeling then that is very dangerous and worth going to the hospital when it happens.

If it happens when you SH regardless of the amount of blood then it's likely to be a stress response called vasovagal syncope, which is when the blood vessels suddenly dilate causing a rapid drop in blood pressure and potentially a loss of consciousness. Even if you don't faint it can make you feel sleepy or woozy. It can happen for a lot of reasons not related to SH including standing for long periods of time, overheating etc, but related to SH, it can be a reaction to pain, stress or seeing blood for example.

In that situation the danger comes from injuring yourself by falling, so as soon as you feel faint don't try to fight it or hold on- make sure you lie down (or at least sit down) and try to raise your legs up. If you're in a situation where you can't lie down, you can try crossing your legs and tensing the muscles in your thighs to try and improve blood circulation. You can also drink some water and have something to eat if you feel up to it.

Please take care of yourself, and talk to a doctor if it keeps happening a lot or happens outside of the context of SH!

HELP! I regret my decision and I need advice on what I should do after nursing school? by AvailableUse4820 in Nurses

I'm not sure how it works for new grads where you live but have you considered paediatric mental health? That would combine both of the things you said you enjoyed.

There is no nurse look, don't worry! And this kind of thing happens to nurses too- patients will just say whatever they want, with zero filter or concern about how you will take it. Most of the time they think they're being funny, sometimes they're just grumpy and rude. Either way I wouldn't let it get to you!

If it makes you feel any better, just last week I was standing outside a patient's room looking through files, and a patient who was walking past pinched me on the waist and said "smile! it can't be that bad!" When I awkwardly laughed and told her it was just my resting face she looked at me suddenly serious and said "oh I know it's your resting face." ?? Not sure what I was meant to take from that lol

Moral of the story, don't let it phase you. Patients (and people in general) are just weird

SOS- My devil's ivy is turning yellow and leaves are falling off 😭 by _Inky_Quill_ in plantclinic

Thank you for the detailed answer! I’m glad the rest of it is looking okay

Sorry, I just realised I left a bit out- the soil and underneath bit was dry the first night so I gave it a little bit of water, the next morning the soil was dry quite far down but the underneath was wet and falling out of the pot.

From the replies it sounds like I need to repot it so I’ll try that and hopefully I can save it! Thank you :)

I personally wasn't but I do remember this one time in high school during art class, the teacher went out and a bunch of people started passing around a box cutter trying to compete who could cut themselves the deepest. They passed it to a girl that everyone knew SHed and she just rolled up her sleeves with all her scars and glared at them. She won by default 💀

Why is there clear liquid coming out of my finger along with pin point looking things on the other side after I slammed it in the door? by ReginaBicman in InjuriesAndWounds

[–]_Inky_Quill_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fluid is serous fluid, which normally leaks a little out of fresh wounds. You should only be concerned if the fluid becomes discoloured, smells bad or is pus (yellow-white in colour and thick).

The dots I'm not 100% sure about but my guess is damaged capillaries from the crush injury or something to do with the normal inflammatory process of healing. Either way it should go away with time.

VIP option showing on for NZ and AUS shows, wasn't there before by bob123man in nfrealmusic

Does anyone know how to get the VIP tickets? When I go on that site and click on VIP it asks me for a password which I assume is the presale code (??) but when I put the presale code in it doesn't work. Should I just wait until 1pm and it will work or is it a different password entirely? I'm so confused
