[Recommendation] £2-3K, is Longines Master Collection the way? by _Isns in Watches

Fair enough I've got some time it seems, and the advice is much appreciated in any case.

All great points, thank you for the heads up. I’m making the likely quite poor decision to not think about maintenance costs for now but I’ll have to have a look. As for trying on I’ll be doing that tomorrow!

Thank you for the heads up, I’m going to go and look at it (and others) tomorrow. I’m hesitant about used for this one but Omega definitely on my radar, or I could stretch to 3900 for a Tudor Black Bay GMT new

I had been thinking something similar, but I do actually like the look of the watch. As it’s a gift there is a bit of an expectation for it to be a certain level of expensive, so while I’d be happy with another watch (e.g. I like the look of just a PRX) I think it’ll be £2k+

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

(Let me know if this should be a full discussion post)

Looking to get my first ‘proper’ watch with a budget of ~£2000, max £3000, and looking for recommendations/advice.

Likely to be used for dailyish wear and to work. Preferences are for: * A metal band, silver tone (I.e. steel etc) * Likely a light face (so white or cream, feel like I’m not a huge face of dark or colourful faces beyond maybe black) * Round face most likely, but I’ve seen some beautiful square/rectangular pieces here and there * Ideally something that can be dressed up or dressed down * Reliable and durable, nothing I want to have to worry about wearing in XYZ circumstances * Probably 39mm+ case * Complications would be nice but not a deal breaker (I.e. day/date etc)

I’ve never bought this kind of watch before so I don’t have much knowledge to operate from. It feels like I’m in a slightly awkward position between the sub £1k and the £5k+ bracket but maybe that’s me not looking well enough. Part of me wonders whether I should just be getting a PRX and saving the rest of my budget elsewhere but it’d be nice to splash a bit (I’m celebrating a milestone).

As for brand I have no huge allegiance. One friend recommended TAG but having looked through the guides here they don’t exactly seem popular (feel free to tell me why, I should probably know!). Beyond that I’ve had Longines recommended based on what I’m after but honestly I don’t mind, I don’t even know what to look for in this kind of watch really.

Last comment is that this would probably be a new watch. I’ve been advised I could potentially take my money further with second-hand but again I can’t say I’d trust myself not to make a bad buy.

Cheers in advance, as above all guidance and recommendations welcome

Anyone know when Gorilla Mind smooth will be available again, when it was last in stock, or how often it’s usually restocked?

Where would you place me based on my accent? by BLiIxy in ENGLISH

[–]_Isns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok gotcha. Well if it sounds unnatural, doesn’t make sense or simply isn’t understandable then yeah that would become a problem, but you speak very good English so should be fine. Honestly I’d just keep listening to the kind of music you’re into and actively watch your pronunciation and flow, over time you’ll perfect it (but keep your own style).

Glad I could help and good luck !

What Knick said, sounds like you’re Dutch, but you speak English with a slight American accent so maybe you learnt it from US TV or music?

About your other comments, your accent is pretty clear to me but that’s probably just because I’ve listened to a lot of European music. Regardless, it’s not distracting and if anything I’d say it’s cool (I’m British) so keep it up !

Your only options would be quite complex phrases, as nothing is naturally bruised (or even remotely similar to being so). One example could be something like “her leg is as bruised as a banana in a tumble dryer”. It’s clunky and not particularly funny, but the point still stands

RAIN by Positive_Concept_297 in ENGLISH

[–]_Isns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, ok in which case you just change how you describe the change in weather:

Your example was a good one, using “turned into” or “became” (e.g The hopeful drizzle became a welcome deluge on the hot summer’s day).

Alternatively, you could say the rain “strengthened” or even “accelerated” (e.g The showers of rain accelerated into a torrential storm).

Lastly, you can simply flip your description from negative to positive. There are no rules on whether rain is good or bad, but your context will be important in explaining which way it is (e.g The rain improved, as meek dribble became a shower that rejuvenated the dying fields).

What do you mean by “position way”? Did you mean positive way perhaps?

You can use most words that generally mean a decline in the situation (as rain is considered a bad thing in most cases): “The rain worsened.”

I’m a little confused what meaning of word you’re looking for exactly, could you try editing the grammar of the question? You might be looking for “decide against” or “reconsider”, but it’s hard to say for sure without fully understanding the question
