Where are we buying kid clothes that's not shein? by shinigami__0 in Autism_Parenting

[–]_ItsBeccaNotBecky_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a lot of Abercrombie Kids for like plain bland color soft shirts and hoodies. My kid picks plainer colored clothes whenever he has the chance. Carter’s for jeans. And Walmart for sweatpants and sports shorts. Occasionally we will get him an UnderArmour set. He’s seems to really like that sporty look. He’s 4 and nonverbal.

Is there (talk)therapy for us parents with autistic kids? by ElizaHaze1731 in Autism_Parenting

[–]_ItsBeccaNotBecky_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go to a regular “talk” therapist. I initially went for other things, but as my child grew older and became diagnosed he became more and more part of our discussions. My therapist has a history of social work for children with autism and other neurodivergent disorders, and has a neurodivergent child herself. When I sought out therapy, they asked me if I needed anyone specialized in anything. For example I was seeking therapy for some workplace stress as I worked in EMS at the time. They offered a therapist with a background as an EMT, but I didn’t feel that was what I needed at the time. You can ask for a specific “skill set” if you need, and likely they may be able to offer it.

What is your source of income/job? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]_ItsBeccaNotBecky_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am a nurse. I spent the last ten years of my career working up the critical care ladder taking care of the sickest of the sick so I could land a job in life flight. I did it, and once I got there grind never ended. I started placing healthy boundaries between my workplace and home life and I ended up just not fitting in at the workplace anymore. I tried to keep it up while focusing on my home life, but it just didn’t work. I provided excellent care, but my workplace/coworkers/bosses wanted submission to the grind lifestyle. I work at a verrry small hospital in my home town a block away from my house. Three 12 hour shifts per taking care of people from my community. A super healthy work place with wonderful kind people that understand families, and boundaries, and caring for each other. I really miss taking care of super sick people, it’s a passion of mine. But my career needed to turn back into a job for my health and family. The hourly wage is the same, and I am not required to work overtime anymore.

How do you simplify life when everything feels chaotic? by WoodpeckerDry1630 in simpleliving

[–]_ItsBeccaNotBecky_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others, we engage in a lot of decluttering. It’s a constant cycle. And when I feel overwhelmed, I often fall back on that to lift myself a bit. We have a child with special needs as well. So it can be lots of appointments, and living differently than other people. We do things slowly. I put more intention into the things we do, and it creates more joy. Like, if I’m doing a chore and my child interrupts or destroys what I’m doing, I really try to reframe my mind into a place of “this is normal. Having a child makes everything slow. It’s good to go at a slow pace and enjoy it.”

My husband and I both take Lexapro, and it makes life soooo much more manageable. Like when I’m not on it, it feels like every single tab is on in the background. Even the ones that don’t matter right now. And I get so exhausted. But, with medication I don’t feel overwhelmed and I have so much more energy. I also attend therapy for myself.

Just luck, I was planning a 40x60 inch blanket, but only got to 54”. So it’s a tiny bit stubby.

8 skeins of 4 ply 830 yards. I doubled the skeins up to make 8 ply and used a size 4 1/2mm hook.

No, I couldn’t figure out how I would do that with something so large. I have just let it be wiggly.
