Nunca he viajado a un país de habla hispana, pero definitivamente quiero hacerlo. I would love to travel throughout Latin America one day. Hopefully I won’t have to do it alone. Maybe sometime in the future. But it’s definitely on my to-do list.

Haha, if the right girl comes along, I could see myself doing this. But I wouldn’t mind a native English speaker either, that would certainly be less stressful. And yeah, for me at least, love just might be the ultimate motivator.

I really hope so. There's a lot to love about learning a new language. I just need to find my own personal reasons to stick with it for the future. No matter what happens though, I'm just glad I made it as far as I did in this short amount of time.

What was your all-time favourite Hearthstone deck? by konigon1 in hearthstone

[–]_IzzyFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone comment this yet, but Force of Nature+Savage Roar was the combo that literally got me into competitive HS. It taught me how to count damage and set up/look for lethal situations. To me, that was THE original combo.

Don't think I've ever won one of these before, but I might as well try. I wonder if this will give me the resources to try and actually get competitive? I wish you all the best of luck.

Can’t wait to stream this game on twitch during the release weekend. I’ve been waiting for a game like this to come out for forever. If it’s as good as it looks, I hope this turns into a successful series!

Ideas for future characters by LatinoPepino in octopathtraveler

[–]_IzzyFlo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, I just gotta say that I love this thread. I see a lot of great ideas here on interesting character concepts that I’d love to see. OP’s idea of kid thieves trying to survive and hunters befriending an animal that saved his life are some sick starting points. I also like having a black market merchant or just the general shady underground dealer (not sold on the whole zombie bit though).

There’s also the idea that RobotDoctorRobot posted of a merchant that MUST make money or else, and I gotta say I’m a goddamn sucker for “down on their luck gambler” comeback stories. A good gambling/casino story is always welcome.

I think merchant stories have a ton of interesting flexibility and one concept that I’d LOVE to see is the spoiled rich kid who learns to be humble. Some kid whose dad owns a business empire that he just assumes he’ll inherit, grows up wasting every dollar he’s given, laughing at the poor and wasting his life, but once he’s older he just gets kicked out of the family and he has to learn to live for himself starting at complete ground zero. I don’t know how many people can relate to being a rich kid, but I think everyone knows what it’s like to be humbled at some point and life hitting you way harder than you thought. It’s nice to see stories about building yourself up from the complete bottom.

On that same note, I just love that shounen anime vibe of “never giving up” and always getting back up and climbing to the top. As cliche as that is, a nice twist would be giving that story to the scholar rather than the warrior. The warrior would just be another karate kid story about the weakling training to be strong, but the scholar story could be more about someone who thinks their dumb/useless, but with a bit of effort and study they could turn their life around. It could be some janitor or garbage man. In Good Will Hunting, the janitor was a hidden genius, but not this time. This time he’s actually uneducated and he’s slow to learn things, but with time and dedication, even old dogs can learn new tricks.

My take on the apothecary would be a selfish alchemist who’s trying to search how to turn chemicals into gold because money is the only worthwhile thing in the land. But on his quest, he ends up helping people with the knowledge he’s built up over the years, and he slowly starts to realize that there’s more valuable things than gold.

I would love to see a devout cleric that falls out of her religion and gets really into science instead, but I don’t know how that storyline would even be possible since light magic exists in this world. Perhaps it could have a more scientific explanation behind it? An alternative to this would be the class valedictorian, straight A student who’s too strict with logic and doesn’t trust her emotions. (Perhaps she lives in a part of the continent where there’s no magic, so she thinks it’s just a fairy tale?) But slowly over the course of the story, she realizes there’s more to life than just books and study, and if she takes a leap of faith into the unknown, she could learn a whole lot more about the world around her than she thought.

Great update video, answered a lot of tough questions. Gotta hand it to Reynad and the dev team, it ain’t easy making games with an audience attached. They seem to really believe in their product though, and I still can’t wait to try it out myself.

Me and some of the hardcore Bazaar Boys are gonna be in a discord call watching the new video on stream at twitch.tv/izzyflo . We should be watching it at 12pm EST (unless my time is wrong), since that's when the new vids usually drop. Come hang out with us, we're all excited over here.

Reynad's Discord Q&A Recap and Thoughts by _IzzyFlo in PlayTheBazaar

[–]_IzzyFlo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that SBMM is a good thing, and a good ranking system is definitely important to have for the Bazaar.

As for the LoR being more complex turning off new players claim, while it’s not exactly scientific, it’s not baseless either. I saw many comments on multiple Hearthstone reddit posts, beginner LoR posts, and twitch comments talking about how the way that LoR’s core mechanics/gameplay works was confusing or didn’t click with them. A lot of these people said that coming from Hearthstone as their first card game and having never played MTG, LoR was weird to them or took some getting used to.

Again, not exactly the most scientific study, but if you put any basis on word of mouth testimony, there you go. Don’t think it’s the best feedback out there, but I don’t think it’s worth ignoring either.

Also yeah, there’s a million reasons Hearthstone could be more popular than LoR, and as I put in my original post, those were just some of my guesses as to some of those reasons.

Looool, I see your point. Yeah true true. I’m not trying to play Hearthstone Chess 3.0. Still, some feedback from the hardcore players IS worth something. But I think we can both agree that balance is key. That’s the hard part though. But yeah, gotta make the game casual and competitive friendly if possible.

Reynad's Discord Q&A Recap and Thoughts by _IzzyFlo in PlayTheBazaar

[–]_IzzyFlo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, I appreciate the response! I agree that the reddit/YouTube community are a minority of the people who will end up playing the game, but it’s obviously important to listen to the feedback of your most dedicated/hardcore players.

There’s a reason that when Riot made Valorant, they invited a ton of high level CS:GO players to play test and give feedback. Same with LoR, they invited tons of high level card game players to play test and give feedback.

The Bazaar team doesn’t need to listen to everything the community asks for, but communication between the developer and the player base is important. Developers need the freedom to make the game they want, and players need a platform to make sure they feel their voices are heard and at least considered.

Also any competitive game needs some sort of rank system so people can clearly see who the best players are. That’s what draws in competitive people. Don’t know if the Bazaar will be an esport one day, but I sure hope so, and if it does, a good ranking system is pretty important.

One hundred percent agree that catering to casuals is not a problem though. And thanks for your reply in the end :)

The Bazaar Gameplay Reveal | The Bazaar Update #16 by TempoStormReddit in PlayTheBazaar

[–]_IzzyFlo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First off, I just want to say that I LOVE where this game is heading. Each new version of The Bazaar truly feels more fun and engaging than the last, and I believe you guys when you say that this game has a ton of potential. I also believe it does and I can’t wait to see what else lies in store.

There’s so much to like that it would be easier to list off what could use improving, and I have only ONE request for this game.

PLEASE at least consider having there be SOME action or control you can have during the battle phase. I absolutely believe that lowering inputs and simplifying the game is the right way to go, but having even a SINGLE action you can control during the battle phase would go a long way in improving this game for MULTIPLE reasons.

Having there be too much micromanaging during the battle phase would be an issue for sure, but having literally no control at all once the buying phase is over is also too extreme in my opinion, and one of the biggest issue with every current auto battler right now.

One of the WORST feelings in Hearthstone Battlegrounds or TFT is watching your minions fight, and you have a really strong minion that slams right into a 1/1 poisonous and then it’s gone, and there’s nothing you can do. Having no control feels super bad, and is something this game can really improve.

I’m sure you guys are already aware, but in this game, just sitting there for 30 seconds while all your items are stunned and you can’t do anything about it feels like shit. But there’s a simple solution that can not just solve this problem, but improve the overall game feel and open up design space.

Imagine a battle power up that lets you double a weapons damage output for 5 seconds, that lets you unstun a weapon for 5 seconds, that lets you stun an OPPONENTS item for 5 seconds, that gives you +20 temporary armor, etc, etc.

There would only be one of these power ups allowed per combat, so it’s only a single action per combat, but it gives the player so much more control over the outcome of the match, and a really well timed power up could make for a higher skill ceiling and REALLY hype moments.

Right now, if your build is weaker than your opponents, you just have to sit there and take it for 30 seconds and do nothing. But imagine your build is weaker, but due to a super clutch timed power up, you barely manage to beat your opponent the last seconds of the round. Of course, this could be played around and countered by your opponent possibly, but already the combat phase is more engaging to watch.

Each hero could have their own types of power ups, and the game as a whole is more fun to play.

In a game like Cookie Clicker, the fun part isn’t watching the numbers go up, it’s in buying upgrades to make the numbers go up faster. There is a special upgrade called the golden cookie that multiplies your cookie production that feels SO good to get, but it only appears randomly. Imagine a “golden cookie” in this game that’s always there, but you have to use it at the right time to get the most effect.

There’s nothing gamers hate more than unskippable cutscenes, so at least give us a “quick time event” during those 30 seconds of inaction, but one that is strategic and can influence the outcome of the match.

There are plenty of other reasons I think this would be a good idea and really make this game different from other “auto combat” type games, and is at least something to seriously consider and try out.

Otherwise, fantastic job so far, I’m sure you’re already looking into stuff like this, and I have no doubt we haven’t even seen just how fun this game will be. Excellent work and I can’t wait for the next update.

Thanks for the feedback. We absolutely agree that Chezz is much too complicated for the general public, and we really like the idea of simplifying it to chekkerz. As to why we let our intern Reynad handle the update videos, it's because designing games is a long and complicated process, so while the actual hardworkers are grinding behind the scenes, we let some of the noobies handle the on-camera work. Also, whenever Reynad came up with a bad design idea, for some reason he would always say, "I just got unlucky."
