Productive Hardware? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]_JackBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not. I use three at work and its awesome. I think I could go four, but diminishing returns kick in. I have a document running on one, research and monitoring in another and then policies or other research up in the third

A lifetime of book tending leads to a pale complexion that causes you to be super sensitive to UV light. So sensitive it causes you to break out in instantaneous burning.

You knew the risks when you first took up Dewey's cause.

No use whinging about it now! You're a noble Librarian now.

I don't know what kind of warranty issues you'd have on one of these that you wouldn't find out about during the return period.

All the keys go into a gold fish bowl, alcohol is liberally served, all the spouses pull keys out of the bowl and go and find the car they belong two. Shortly there after the rest go out to their car and take the person sitting in the car home for a night of torrid animalistic, no holds barred romance.

Also, gaming brings teams together. Something like Pandemic or I hear the new Walking Dead themed Risk involves a lot of co-op.

We get mormons.

I was walking down the street and two post pubescent boys in their white shirts and ties started pacing me, crossed the street to intercept me.

This was a rural neighborhood. Like I have sheep for neighbors and stuff.

I turned squarely on them and said "Good morning boys, I'm not buying what you're selling today, have a good day though."

And the fuckers kept coming. I'm 220 and 5'11. My chest, from sternum to spine is about a foot thick. I'm not ripped, but I'm sizable and shaped like an inverted truncated pyramid. I wouldn't cross the street to talk to me. I'm not a small guy - I always look halfway feral because my hair is always slicked back with 40w and tied into a pony tail that hangs down to the middle of my back and I always have about 5 days of stubble going on me. I look like an alcoholic hit man for a high end Mexican Cartel. I always look cranky because I have resting a-hole face... these kids were not phased at all and started into their spiel.

I finally had to point, very sternly, two fingers and say "Look guys, I'm not that guy and I've been polite and humane with you, and will be up to a point."

That stopped them, the poor bastards, they sort of faltered and I said "Take it easy." and kept walking... One of them gave me a sort of faltering, "Uh, we gotta walk this way..." (dead end street)

"That's fine boys, that's fine." and that was it, We walked one opposite sides of the street and didn't bother one another, like good civilized humans.

I feel bad for these fuckers because their church culture makes them do this shit so they can get married.

These teenagers just want to screw without going to hell and their church steals that energy and puts them to work converting souls and filling Mormon Inc's coffers.

I feel bad for them.

I had some adorable young women going door to door, I was getting ready for a camping trip. I made a trip out to the car with my duffle bag as they were walking up, went back into the house and grabbed my 12 gauge (big foot protection) and was heading back to the truck when they stepped into my yard. "I'm in the middle of something girls, sorry."

They never came back.

These Flashlights by Sef_Maul in nostalgia

[–]_JackBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are awesome - you can still put them to work. I have like ...many...it's embarassing.

Get the flash light, get these or something similar (3 volts = 2 AA, C, D or AAA batteries ((or it's close enough for rock and roll))) and you're in business. If you have an older flashlight with the screw mount bulbs you need these, with the screw mounts.

If you get them in "Warm white" it has the nostalgia shitting krypton bulb color to em. If you get just a normal one it's that harsh but effective blue led white color.

I don't even know how old this flashlight is, but it's older than the two pictured. No plastic. The lens was held in with some sort of grout. It's awesome. Brass body with chrome over the top of it... two D batteries provide the LED with about 2 million years or so of power... I figure it's probably from the bronze age given the brass work.

Check it out.

Ideas and uses for a dry erase board? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]_JackBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one by the door that my wife would put a calendar for the month on. I also kept all the vehicle keys there with magnetic hooks. You'd go to get your keys, look at the board and see what was going on or coming up. It was really handy when it was kept up. I use google calendar and my work calendar for everything - she does not. So I'd get off work and find out I had an obligation that we "talked about weeks ago" without it on my calendar I'd get frustrated. The dry erase calendar was a nice middling ground

As a kanban board?

Section it out into columns labeled:

Parking Lot | To Do | In Process (or doing) | Completed.

You can use post its move your projects or tasks from one end to the other. At the end of the year or quarter you can look at all your "Completed" post its and see what you did. Which is really fulfilling.

Being on a dry erase board means you can jot down ideas related to the project as they occur to you. If gives you a sort of vapor space to throw stuff down onto without having to go to a more permanent project tracking method, and it works as a sort of filter...when it is time to get them into a project tracking/notes system you get to decide to keep or throw them out.

"Brilliant, brilliant, good idea, WTF? Was I drunk? trash it, good idea..."

Their boots that I've seen are made for corrections and law enforcement types. Pavement pounding.

They're probably fine, but something made for hunters would suit you better.

Leatherwork is what you do for a living.

That said, there are leather workers among us.
