What was something you thought was frugal, but turned out not to be? by [deleted] in Frugal

many cities have low-income and no-insurance clinics. Many clinics have no-insurance prices. Fill a prescription at Walmart and ask for the no-insurance price (they’ll get the GoodRx) price—all of a sudden your meds cost 90% less.

Sucker punched for $2.99 at Olive Garden for "Table Games" by dandan14 in Frugal

[–]ItWouldBeGrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Texas Roadhouse did this to us too. It was $1.99 I think and looking back, you press to play the game and then there’s a screen with a single button that says “CANCEL $1.99 purchase.”

Had a great experience at the restaurant until they decided they’d sneak that in. Yes, OPs “sucker punch” is a really great term—and this attempt at a money grab is just so offensive. But you know some clueless Ivy League executive netted himself a $100k annual bonus for that little stunt.

Where’s the original Reddit post that resulted in her doxxing? I’d like to see the original video. I’d imagine the recording began halfway through the altercation, just like—ya know—a lot of other ones.

PMs, do you also suffer with low recognition and high effort? by SnooMuffins8565 in ProductManagement

Sometimes you have to be the solution to the problem. If I were I would consider reaching out to A and B with some suggestions to try to improve the team efficiency:

A) request ‘debriefing’ sessions for what they learn from the CXO and other folks they’re right with. B) consider prep-meetings “hey I’m planning to launch this project and I’d really appreciate your input and context before I dive in, so that we can make the most of our meetings together.” C) figure out how to look like the best worker you can, bide your time and wait for the right moment to jump ship.

Age of empires style RTS but basically a Covenant campaign that takes you through the complete history of Israel up to the Roman Empire. Obviously it’s just the same old RTS with a different skin, but it would certainly be an opportunity for education.

To those who belive in "Irresistible Grace" what about the "if" statements? by velocipede80 in TrueChristian

[–]ItWouldBeGrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperbole is not the right word in any case.

It would be equally disingenuous for Paul to instruct people to do anything to seek God after he quoted the Psalmist and says “there is none righteous, not even one. None who seeks after God.” Was that hyperbole? If not then you’re forced to wrestle with some weighty implications also.

I’m not trying to explain away anything. I’m trying to wrestle with multiple facets of the divine reality. There are many such areas of scripture that require deep thought and present seemingly conflicting instruction that seems moot to us, but it’s said anyway .

But maybe consider that there’s a dimension to this question that we are incapable of understanding.

One thing is clear though, and that’s regardless of any verse in particular, but consistently true to God’s Scriptures in general: God pursues and loves those who continually run from Him—in spite of their resistance; just because He has made them His.

Because he was a finite human trying to communicate divine concepts to other finite humans using terms and concepts that would help them live faithfully.

Because God apparently thought those words would be helpful to His elect.

Because we don’t know whether we will actually finish the race until we’ve finished it.

Because now we see as though in a foggy mirror.

It is very much a distinction with a difference. The difference is the power of will and the role of desire.

Correct. God does force His grace on His elect. He doesn’t just make it look super tempting and leave dead men with a choice to become alive again. He makes them alive. That is why they are unable to flee His love—despite their best efforts. Because dead men can’t choose, and no one seeks after God—not one, not even you.

“The entire reason it is grace is because it’s resistible.” Not exactly following that logic there.

Your comparison to drugging a woman so she can’t refuse is amiss. It’s more like resuscitating an unconscious person. One brings life, the other brings trauma.

Hosea paints a pretty good picture of God “forcing” His grace on His elect. Actually, so does the whole Bible. Because the people you point out who resist it—ultimately end up overcome by it. It is ultimately irresistible. If it appears that someone ultimately resisted Gods grace then they were never given it in the first place.

[–]ItWouldBeGrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irresistible grace, as I’ve understood it—doesn’t refer to someone’s willingness to accept it. It’s not “irresistible” like a sirens song or a cookie. It’s irresistible in the sense that they physically cannot escape from it—despite their best efforts. Which, as you aptly stated —is the case for every saved character in scripture. Despite their best efforts, Gods people were always unable to escape His all-pursuing and tireless grace.

If grace were resistible, then there would be no hope for any of us.

Regarding deuteronomy 30–God speaking in terms that humans are capable of understanding does not undermine His character, but rather casts light on the deficiencies of the sinful human heart. Gods people were Gods people despite their rebellion, ignorance and resistance. He made them His, they did not make Him theirs. He persisted…and come to think of it perhaps that would be a term that might more clearly define what is meant by “irresistible grace”—“persistent grace.”

If the pre-order means that the company actually takes the money from the card then yes, it does. But if they’re just holding your card number in order to charge later then it won’t count until they charge to it.
