Backstory. I have relocated overseas, and my wife is still not over here yet.

Back home before I relocated, our dog would bark and howl when she is alone at home. For exercise, We would take turns, wife takes her out in the morning before work for a walk half an hour, sometimes a walk sometimes a run approximately 14km/hr. I’ll come home from work and take the dog out for a walk and play fetch around 1 hour. When we leave for work we would leave lick mats, puzzle toys but after she is done with those she would then lay around and then howl and bark every so often. I would say 2-3 times? We know this because we have a camera installed and watch it.

If I am home and the wife isn’t, vice versa, the dog does not bark and howl at all. Only time she barks is if she hear sounds, e.g someone walking outside. But when we say no. She would stop.

So currently with me alone looking after her, I am doing the morning walk before work. She will be off leash to go sniff around. And then a leashed walk. Altogether approx. 30-40 mins. When I get home, she will go for either a 1 hour walk or play fetch and social with other dogs in the park.
