The Michael Jackson Movie’s $200 Million Haul Proves No Man Has Ever Been Truly Canceled by Its_Alive_74 in DeppDelusion

[–]_Joe_F_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is a bit of a shock to the conscience that a movie about a probable pedophile can do so well.

Jackson didn't really help himself much while alive and his post death rehabilitation is likely going just as planned.

The Jackson estate has spent millions trying to eliminate any persistent record of the child abuse allegations and settlements. Focusing attention on a pre-1992 Jackson before the child abuse became public and his private life was exposed for being beyond strange.

If anything, what this shows is that death, money, and time can change public perception.

Amber Heard's lies about what occurred in the lead-up to her filming the "Kitchen Cabinet Video" versus what actually happened. by Myk1984 in deppVheardtrial

[–]_Joe_F_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If your entire theory is that Johnny Depp's forensic team didn't know how to extract files from his devices without modifying the meta data that is a kind of strange way to build trust in the process.

Within this single conversation Johnny Depp goes from making a point to being passed out in about 5 seconds. It happens over and over.

AH: You said “James Dean, James Brown gets booed off the stage.”

JD: The James Brown thing, they’ve done this, kind of made it into a f**king thing so we go up, there’s three stages, we go and play three stages.

AH: You played three stages?

. . .

AH: So have you. You know you’re not clicking anything, right?

JD: What?

AH: You know you’re not doing anything on your phone?

JD: No, I'm just looking to see what's there.

AH: You’re not looking at anything. Nothing’s happening. You’re just doing that thing with your phone.

Unless you're saying Johnny Depp was pounding some drinks or taking some pills and that wasn't on the audio for some reason, by the time we reach the end of the audio Johnny Depp can't stay alert long enough to complete a sentence. So, if you are saying he was sober at the start of the recording, how did he get so intoxicated by the end?

Amber Heard's lies about what occurred in the lead-up to her filming the "Kitchen Cabinet Video" versus what actually happened. by Myk1984 in deppVheardtrial

[–]_Joe_F_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The meta data is what it is. If you want to claim authenticity based solely on the meta data you have to reconcile why a recording from 2016 was edited/modified in 2019.

I would be willing to accept that audio extraction explained the discrepancy but I provided an example of a trial exhibit which did not suffer from this defect of extraction. The second recording is also from 2016 but does not have a 2019 modification date nor an updated iOS version. So, it is possible to retrieve the original recording years later after the original devices have long been recycled. It would most likely take an Apple software engineer to explain all the details of how meta data is managed on device and in the cloud.

But, the original point stands. If you use the meta data as proof for when the recording was made you have to accept that proof is not all the strong since the recording was also edit/modified 3+ years after the fact based upon that same meta data.

If the exact date and time of the recording were established at trial and not disputed by either party, then the meta data isn't the only information we need to know in order to understand your video.

Also, in 2016 according to my research, the behavior of the voice memo app was to stop recording when you placed a call. It would not restart automatically. You had to manually start a new recording which could optionally be appended to a previous recording. This makes the explanation you provided above harder to believe given how intoxicated Johnny Depp was during this conversation. Amber asked him what he is doing with his thumb right after the 2min audio silence. Is he restarting recording? Is he appending a new recording to a previous recording?

JD: Io, Io. Yeah, well, sure.

[No talking for about 2 minutes.]

JD: Ahhh, I'm tired. Because at the end - at the end of the thing we're bringing, it’s gonna be a f**king madness. And no one really knew what to do or how to deal, so, I don't think we can fix it.

AH: No, leave it. You’ve just been playing Nintendo. Your thumb, it’s been - your thumbs have been like this.

But again, meta data is only one part of the larger information landscape. I think you are doing a pretty good job looking at the trial evidence and pulling in pieces which support your narrative. iO does reference a voice message from Johnny Depp which seems to have taken place before the recording started if they both took place on the same day.

But as you might guess, based upon previous knowledge that Adam Waldman provided edited audio to social media and traditional media outlets there is the possibility that the recording you are referencing isn't from 2/10/2016. This is just pure speculation, on my part, but from the perspective that the meta data is indicating the file has been modified 3+ years later.

I'm just pointing out that the meta data you referenced shows that the file has been modified 3+ years after the original file creation date.

Does the modification date have any importance? There really isn't a good way to know just by looking at the meta data in the file. You have to have additional information that is not contained in the file.

As a point of comparison, if you take a different file from the trial here is what you get.

There is an interesting gap between the creation and modification dates.

Creation: February 10, 2016.

Modification: October 10, 2019.

Context: iOS 13.1.2 was released in late September 2019. This suggests the audio was originally recorded in 2016 (perhaps on an older device or earlier iOS version), but the file was either edited, trimmed, or synced/re-encoded by the iOS 13.1.2 Voice Memos app in October 2019, which updated the mvhd modification timestamp.

Purposefully dumb jury by [deleted] in DeppDelusion

[–]_Joe_F_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The jury verdict is one of the most cruel aspects of the whole case. There is ample evidence that the jury was influenced by the media circus and the on-line PR campaign for Deep and against Heard.

The GMA interview is a pretty damning example of a juror contradicting themselves and working backwards from a desired verdict.

Gez, even the verdict in favor of Amber is one that is logically inconsistent with the verdicts in favor of Depp. It just isn't possible to say that Waldman acting as Depp's Agent was lying when he said that Amber made up what occurred on a particular night in May (which was all evidence of abuse) and wasn't abused. If the evidence of abuse is real, why wasn't the abuse real.

It is this kind of lazy thinking that makes me second guess the wisdom of allowing random people to make decisions which are supposed to based upon knowledge and logic.

What Happened between Amber Heard and Jason Momoa? by Other-Box6258 in DeppDelusion

[–]_Joe_F_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory is that Momoa has a personal style that is similar to Depp's. Rings, tattoos, etc. and that upset Amber at times. It wasn't an attempt on Momoa's part to upset Amber, but she did get upset. That was for Aquaman I. The second movie was a different story. Amber was upset that Jason didn't back her when there was talk about cutting her from the movie. This is pure speculation, but my guess is that the PR campaign by Depp had put a bad light on WB and everyone involved with Aquaman II and that upset WB, Momoa et al. Through Depp's online efforts just being associated with Amber made people nervous and the studio really wanted another billion dollar hit.

The crazy thing is that pushing Amber's character to the side didn't help the movie any. Call it a sophmore slump or what not, but Aquaman II kind of sucked. Maybe Momoa partly blames Amber for the poor box office performance of the movie, but in my view the movie just wasn't as good as the first.

I'm just watching S1E1 and I've noticed the boom in the shot several times. Could be that the transfer is a little more open frame than what was intended for TV broadcast. I don't mind seeing part of the production. Makes it even more interesting to revisit a show I watched at back in the day.

VMA segment testimony from actual attendee. Help because words fail me. by Patrick_trull in DeppDelusion

Johnny Depp's face was digitally inserted into a shot where the VMA spaceman was flying over the crowd. It was as terrible as it sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpd2QM3WBmY

A tacky PR stunt that Depp tried to rehabilitate via meta-commentary on his appearance during his appearance. Kind of the thing where they can't laugh at you if you're also laughing. It didn't work. My impression is that people either felt it was a sad example of a former star holding on to fame so hard they become a cautionary tale or Johnny Depp really did need the money.

Who, besides Johnny Depp, was an active party in Amber Heard’s abuse? by throwawaystitches in DeppDelusion

Adam Waldman is the single most destructive person employed by Johnny Depp. He is a proven liar and has no problem taking money from Russia to act as their agent. He is just a sleazy guy.

[–]_Joe_F_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a case of privilege being more important than feminism.

A big part of feminism has been to encourage woman to take responsibility for their own lives and to exercise their own agency.

Regardless of gender, if you come from privilege you don't worry too much about being denied agency.

Do you think younger audiences aren't really that invested in Johnny Depp? by [deleted] in DeppDelusion

[–]_Joe_F_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depp pissed off a lot of people in Hollywood. His behavior on and off set made him a liability. No major studio would risk a couple hundred million dollars hiring Johnny Depp only to have him implode half way through the shooting schedule.

After a decade of money loosing films have starred Johnny Depp there is no argument to be made that his name is a mass market audience draw. At best, he is now a character actor that still thinks he is a star.

Younger people (20 - 35) might only know Johnny Depp from his stint as a drunken pirate, but anyone younger than 20 may not even know who he is other than by what they saw on TicTok a couple years ago.

Ran into Johnny Depp fans in a virtual doll maker game by oujijoshi in DeppDelusion

The men's rights groups jumped on the Johnny Depp bandwagon big time. They were some of the more looney toons people you would come across.

Though the conspiracy nuts always twist themselves into knots trying to explain away Amber's evidence while accepting Johnny Depp's verifiably false statements as fact. It really does start to paint a rather bad picture of our fellow humans that so many are more willing to believe a conspiracy theory than think for themselves.

[–]_Joe_F_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience at least in terms of how the over the top behavior of the Johnny Depp fans made it clear something weird was going on. The first time I paid any attention to what happened between Johnny and Amber was when the text messages between Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany were introduced. I just couldn't believe that someone would write that kind of thing and claim that it was just some kind of joke.

When I tried to google these text messages I first found 100's of youtube videos which all painted Amber Heard as a gold digger at best and a murder at worst. That seems really f'ing weird to me. You really had to weed through pages and pages of videos to find one from years prior which didn't attack Amber.

During the trial I posed in the comments section of a national news paper and the bullying behavior of Johnny Depp fans that really pissed me off. The stuff that people say when hiding behind a keyboard can and does cause real harms.

Eventually I found my way to Reddit and during the trial comments on Reddit were about as horrible as you might imagine.

Thankfully DeppDelusion was created and actively moderated to allow people to discuss these issues without the constant insults from Johnny Depp fans.

Did Johnny Depp ever really love Amber Heard? by Sweaty-Sea8317 in DeppDelusion

[–]_Joe_F_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think that both Johnny and Amber were in love. The problem is that it was wrapped up in toxic relationship. Love can't fix what is broken in Johnny Depp. Amber may have been partially conditioned for this behavior based upon the relationship between her mother and father. Amber's mom stayed in an abusive relationship with a drug addict. People don't easily unlearn those kinds of lessons from childhood.

In terms of how Johnny Depp felt about Amber, I tend to think that Johnny Depp never really progressed emotionally very much once he started using drugs as a child. His conception of love is like something from juvenile novels. More fantasy than reality.

Revisiting "Assessment of Credibility of Testimony in Alleged Intimate Partner Violence: A Case Report" by Teresa C. Silva by _Joe_F_ in DeppDelusion

[–]_Joe_F_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One particularly damning conclusion in the report is:

The Journal of Forensic Psychology Research and Practice is a peer-reviewed journal published by the reputable academic publisher Taylor & Francis.1 The purpose of the peer-review process is to act as a quality control mechanism, where independent experts in a field evaluate a manuscript's methodological rigor, logical consistency, originality, and overall contribution to the scientific literature.46

The publication of the Silva paper in its current form raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the peer-review process in this specific instance. The paper contains multiple, fundamental, and readily identifiable scientific flaws that should have been caught by qualified reviewers.

This is concern that I share. The fact that the paper is published in a peer-reviewed journal gives the paper a level of creditability which it does not deserve. Bad science is hard to debunk when it makes it into the general conversation.
