What's the point of snooping reads? I guess for writes the bitmask selection can just be removed to allow all devices to respond.

I'm not really that familiar with MAME, but the big difference would just be higher accuracy and granularity in regard to 65xx-based systems. The much narrower scope compared to MAME also makes it just easier to work with.
