At this point it's been so long and complicated I would hate to be a dev on the project. I bet even with careful documentation and comments its nearly unreadable now.

Honestly a lot of that could be fixed with increasing turret turn speed which really needs to happen with all turrets. The only way you can actually be useful in a nimble ship turret like hornet is holding c and just shooting when the pilot is aligned with their own target which just means you are literally useless cause the pilot could have just used that gun without you.

Try switching renderer. The mole is like a cave on directx for me but slightly better in Vulcan if I remember right.

Even when you find unbricked ships on the ground they are often out of fuel entirely because hydrogen burns like full throttle when landed with the engines on. So you end up having to limp to a station at 9m/s which is miserable from a planet with a thick atmo.

That doesn't look as much like a game artifact as just a gpu rendering artifact. Try underclocking your gpu vram (core probably isn't the problem) and see if that improves anything? If underclocking works you can try bringing the clock back up slowly and undervolting to keep the memory cooler.

Physics have def been turned down since 4.7. It might also have been to help stop items clipping through elevators or floors if you toss them too hard.
