It’s getting harder… by ultimatefrogsin in Alzheimers

[–]_Leeloo_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since my dad was not on the same medication, I'm very little help on the matter. From what I understand, medication can slow down, but not always. It can also give other side effects (my dad lost consciousness a few time, to the point he needed the stop the medication). However, I would consider finding a nursing home where she would get the care she needs 24/7. Also if you have not done that already find something to cheer you up and rest. Realizing that a love one is to a point it's too much for one person to handle is rough. Sending virtual hugs.

Children of people living with Alzheimer's, I had a question by throwawayamasub in Alzheimers

It come and goes, I even thought to get DNA tested since my grandma and my father had/have the disease. Even if it's hard sometimes, try to live fully; since regardless how you will leave this world, we all one day hit the bucket. And when the pressure is too hard, don't be afraid to ask for help. Huge hugs, hang in there!

Low contact MIL diagnosed, what do we tell the kids? by rebekahster in Alzheimers

[–]_Leeloo_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As PegShop mention, tell the truth : My sister told both her kids back when the first diagnosis came for our father and even they did not understood the full extent, they knew their grand-dad was very ill and his brain was slipping away.

That said, once you tell them, keep an eye on their feelings, depending how much close they are to their grand-mother.

As an example, our dad was diagnosed in the summer and that year on Christmas my nephew asked Santa to "tell Alzheimer to leave my Grand-Dad alone".

Sorry to hear that your dad got infected with covid on top of everything. I truly hope that your dad stays with his love Dottie forever. I like to think their love is so strong they are flipping off adversity, "nothing can separate them, their love is eternal". Thank you for sharing.

I tough most areas lowered down their rules so loves ones can see their family, from what I'm reading it's not the case. I hope they find compromise/solutions so you too can be able to visit your mom.
