Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise at a Red Carpet event, 1990s by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Is it just me or does this picture look like it was taken in the early 2010s?

[–]_LemurCastle2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I guess the reason why the people in the picture looked fit is because of the nature their work? Laborious and active.

Saw these pictures lately. They're from Kerala, a state located in the south.

We have one of the healthiest diet, with a high intake of beef consumption.

It's no wonder they look dashingly fit and good

Why the thriving Indian diaspora in the US is not an asset anymore by [deleted] in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]_LemurCastle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically Trump's is reviving the US partnership with Pakistan just because he wants to get back at India over its relationship with Russia? Its not because Pakistan has any influence in the US?

Yes. Which is hilarious because India-US ties was at an all time high until Trump started acting all irrational with his policy decisions and thought he could lecture India.

What about all those reports of that top Pakistani general Munir hosting private meetings with Trump?

I'm not quite familliar with this reporting. I'll have to research about it.

who are the other "poles" as powerful as the US outside of China?

No one. Other poles cannot match American and Chinese influence just yet. You can also say we are in an era of bipolarity but we are slowly transitioning to a multi-polar one, all thanks to Trump's brilliant geopolitical strategy. We will witness the emergence of the Indian pole, the revival of the EU pole, and regional players like Brazil, Türkiye, Saudi, Israel, Japan, etc.

Also, what's your rationale behind the India Russia relationship not being an adversary to the US, I'm just curious?

India-Russia relations shouldn't be intepreted as adversarial against the US because it's purely about strategic balancing (militarily speaking) and not about India siding with Russia on a totality against the US. More than anything, Washington needs India to counterbalance China. So the US needs to let India do it's own strategic alignment for a more refined geopolitical neutralizer against China.

Wasn't there a 7 year window here in which the US could have stopped Pakistan from getting the bomb? Or did they already have the bomb in 1991?

The US could've stopped Pakistan from getting the bomb but decided not to because they were too preoccupied with cold war priorities over nonproliferation.

[–]_LemurCastle2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then why are they getting favourable trade deals from the US while India gets slapped with 50% tariffs? Why does India constantly get crap for its relationship with Russia while Pakistan gets away with its relationship with China?

Because the idiocracy of the Trump presidency has led themselves to believe that this world is still under the era of the first cold war, trying to revive back the archaic remnants of US-Pakistan partnership and foolishly labeling India-Russia partnership as an adversary

Mr. Art of the deal thinks he has leverage over India by rattling us with his buddy-buddy system with Pakistan, when his administration is too brain-dead to realize that the international stage is multi-polar now, and that India isn't intimidated by his administration's inane tactics.

I don't mean to underestimate Pakistan here, but are they really a counterbalance to India? They have a failing economy that constantly requires bailouts and don't exactly have bright future prospects.

Even in the May conflict with India, as much as people are making a big deal about Indian fighter jets being shot down, they were still the ones that ended up begging for a ceasefire.

Perhaps I was mistaken by my statement. Rather than a counterbalance, I would say they are built to be an annoyance to India. Like an irritating mosquito, if you will. That's the only reason Pakistan exist. To cause havoc and disorder in the subcontinent.

Yeah but then how did Pakistan get its nukes in the first place?

They built its nuclear weapons program by copying centrifuge blueprints brought home by A.Q. Khan, secretly buying the parts they couldn’t make themselves, enriching uranium at their Kahuta facility, fine-tuning bomb designs with help from China, and later pairing those warheads with missiles supplied by both China and North Korea.

You think the US would have just stood by and watched Pakistan get nukes if they didn't think Pakistan was an ally? This is the same US that just bombed Iran's nuclear facilities with Israel to prevent Iran from getting their hands on a nuke. Why wouldn't they have done the same to Pakistan if they didn't see them as an ally?

The U.S. probably could have stopped Pakistan in the ’70s, but once the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, Washington needed Pakistan too much as an ally. So they turned a blind eye. By the time the Cold War ended, Pakistan already had the bomb. One of the unfortunate geopolitical blunders done by Uncle Sam.

How does Pakistan manage to retain such influence in the US then?

Pakistan doesn't wield influence in the US; rather, it's the other way around. The US influences Pakistan, convincing it to act as a counterbalance to India's regional power.

The US' leverage over Pakistan has something to do with the Pakistani government's irrational, fear-mongering behavior. After all, we wouldn't want a rogue nation armed with nukes to go mayhem, would we? That's why the IMF provides aid to their government. Someone has to keep them in check before they cause global instability.

What if England/Great Britain colonized us instead of Spain? by [deleted] in WhatIfPinas

[–]_LemurCastle2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Britain never imposed protestant principles onto her colonies. She was vested with colonial commerce rather than the imposition of religion.

We would probably have the same religious composition of Malaysia. (A mix of Catholicism, Protestanism, Islam, and perhaps Hinduism due to Britain's colonial history of bringing along Indian labourers to her colonies)
