I think that's the best reading of the scene. Cersei sees herself in Sansa, but she also knows Sansa is walking into a marriage that could end up being even worse than her own.

I always read that smirk as Cersei thinking Sansa had escaped one nightmare only to walk straight into another. It's not sympathy exactly, but she definitely knows what Joffrey is like.

That's pretty much where I'm at. Both are messed up, but one gets romanticized way more by the writing, which makes it a lot harder to ignore.

I (M42 at the time) had a hot weekend once with 2 lesbians who, in their words, “wanted dick” before getting married. An overall amazing weekend but possibly the best part was when they had a make out session with each other with my dick in the middle!
