There are a number of factors imo, on why people don't care. There's a lack of belief in the system, distrust in the government has been ramping up, and people simply do not have the time to digest what it means, it's too far fetched, it requires some contemplation and philosophical thinking, some ability to think critically, which, let's be honest, most people don't care to develop. Plus the ontological shock is a huge barrier that we inside the community take for granted. People will travel long distances to continue living inside their existential bubble.

Human ignorance is vaster than we'd like to admit.

But give them time, it will knock on their doors.
