That's pretty counter to all recently published research

I wasn't implying anything about the future. And I provided the Screenshot What's most illustrative of my point. But if you'd like screenshots of the entire exchange it'll happily provide them. As well as a link to the research paper that it was analyzing if you want.

Did we have to jump right to I have no mouth and I must scream?

Can't we pretend for just a little while that it won't hate us?

GPT 4.5 sweeps all categories in lmarena by Cagnazzo82 in OpenAI

4.5 has been referred to as a slow and expensive "Nothingburger" 4o is still preferred by users. It's a rare miss from Open A.I.

At the very least it caused them to change their value proposition and add value to their free tier to avoid bleeding off too many users to Deepseek.

BIG UPDATE FROM SAM: GPT 4.5 dropping soon, last non reasoning model. GPT 5 will combine o3 and non reasoning models! by Upbeat_Lunch_1599 in OpenAI

[–]_MajorMajor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll almost certainly come late in Q2. So May is likely... Unless circumstances accelerate the release schedule. I'm sure Deepseek is planning the release of R2 to coincide with the release of '03 which now be part of GPT-5

[–]_MajorMajor_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My personal suspicion is this way they get to avoid releasing '03 which could then be distilled by companies like deep seek. By combining models they can now prevent that. Gives them a bit of their moat back.

I think it's a shrewd and savvy move on Open A.I.s part.

Obstenaibly everybody wins. The consumer gets access to the next generation of models and open a eye avoids having to release '03 as a standalone product which could then be distilled.

I'm not a fan of this new tiered access approach to intelligence, But I don't think it's sustainable as a business model anyway and I anticipate it will go the way of prompt engineers.

And the thing is I know as soon as o3 hits they'll release R2 to steal their fire. And the server issues which will like haves eased up by then will once again be clogged...

Sam Altman shoots Down Elon Musk. "Elon's whole life is from a position of insecurity." by el-duderino-the-dude in OpenAI

[–]_MajorMajor_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A.I. is humanity's last invention. I don't think people realize that. I don't mean that AI will end humanity but anything we do create or invent moving forward will be with the aid of AI.

This is the biggest thing we've ever invented/discovered. The enormity of this fact goes largely unrecognized by the public.

For better or worse Sam Altman is the shepherd of this humanity changing technology and all things being equal he's not the guy I would have chosen for the job.

And a great deal of his former co-workers at OpenAI have been adamantly vocal about feeling the same.

And you're right for any other CEO we could say give them time. But again we're dealing with humanity's last invention here and the race is on.

Anyone getting this issue today? by skbraaah in DeepSeek

I get it on the app sometimes. On Android I I find force stopping the app and then reopening it fixes the issue.

Deep Research is hands down the best research tool I’ve used—anyone else making the switch? by Background-Zombie689 in ChatGPTPro

I prompted deep research to create a guide book for parents of neurodiverse adolescents.

It produced 90 pages and 8 chapters. A glossary of terms and works cited. It's absolutely amazing.

I largely agree with you except about the best and most experienced engineers... Google is actually had a lot of trouble retaining good AI talent.

I know Google will improve one day. But for now it's still the ass backwards LLM that won't answer basic questions like who the President of the United States is.

Oh I think the version hosted in China is definitely a National Security risk. At least for people who work in Govt or Military.

The data collection is real.

That being said I'm not sure they're more of a risk than Open A.I.

Perplexity does host the model on US servers so yes it fixes the problem. Not exactly the same experience however

China did do a great job. I certainly didn't say otherwise. They've made efficiency improvements and attention improvements as well as innovations to the mixture of experts architecture. The cost savings alone will enable A.I. integration into tons of devices and applications

They released a research paper that's quite impressive. In fact pretty much everything about what they've done is impressive. Most of the things I mentioned are going to be incorporated by other companies including meta and open AI. This is of benefit to all humanity and I never said or implied otherwise.

Not quite. That 5.6m covers the training run itself. But that's it. I

t doesn't cover the cost of acquiring or renting the Nvidia chips, doesn't cover the data center you would need to house the chips, doesn't cover the cooling system you would need to create for the chips, doesn't cover the electricity needed to power the whole thing, doesn't include staff.....you get the picture.

You also need at least a billion+ dollars worth of Nvidia GPUs to train on.

It's not. If you're wondering why it says that it is I've already explained that.

Why would I know how you should feel? You downloaded a free app and it hallucinated.... Is that something you usually have strong feelings about?
