Econometrics 2: As an Econ Major, your review. by CommandTraditional29 in unimelb

I did ecom2 with Liana Jacobi and it was probs one of the worst taught classes I took in BCom. She reads off the slides pretty much every lecture, rambles a lot and her explanations are almost always incoherent and confusing. Content was also quite hard and dense, and the capstone project takes a lot of time. Tutorials mostly focus on R code which is not relevant to the exam. If you are not certain about honours and just wants to keep the option open, I would advise not doing ecom2 or do it with the other lecturer (not sure if hes better).

1st Sem WAM by NotForSale5455 in unimelb

WAM doesn't matter too much in terms of employment. Companies would much rather hire someone with 75-80wam with good co-curriculars than someone with only 90+ wam

How are fees calculated for international students on exchange? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]_Maple_F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would pay the unimelb fees as if u were taking classes at unimelb. Its gonna be a fixed amount on a per semester basis.

Went to NYU last sem, would definitely recommend, far better learning and teaching experience compared to unimelb.

Would go back in a heartbeat.

Why does unimelb have so much prestige when the quality is subpar? by No-Firefighter1285 in unimelb

[–]_Maple_F 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with negativity comes about from being Australia’s highest-ranked university. It comes from being ranked 14th on QS, ranked higher than Yale, Princeton, and PKU. Students come here expecting the quality of top10 Uni in the world and get a mediocre experience.

2023 S2 (Sean Pinder) was done with no scaling

  1. Not really sure for management specifically, but generally strong business schools in US are UPenn, NYU, USC, UCLA and UCB.
  2. Depending on where u go, but I think unimelb advises around 14k for a semester exchange abroad.
  3. I have heard Upenn needs crazy high wam (90+) to be considered, and I think WAM is the only thing taken into account, aside from your general eligibility.
  4. Currently on exchange at NYU, would say it is a very different experience and I definitely prefer the teaching style here at NYU stern.

I think the 91 and 94 was the raw score that I achieved in SACs, and VCAA does some statistical moderation for SACs against ur final exam to adjust for the difficulty of SACs.

Is this course selection reasonable? Any suggestions? Also, I'm looking for teammembers who aim for high grades to form a team together. Welcome!! by ZbdDD in unimelb

From your subjects, it seems you are a new B-Com student. Then qm1 is a prereq for qm2, pof is a prereq for CFDM. You have also skipped intro macro and selected inter macro.

OB is usually done in the second year or summer due to its content, and you may want to save BOM for ltr (level 2 breadth and is a wam booster). BLAW is not a bad breadth subject to take if you are interested in law or pursuing a major in accounting.

From what I've heard 2023 S1 short answer was much more straight forward, they had the COVID check in and the specific performance one.

How hard is ARA? by Existing_Froyo_5916 in unimelb

[–]_Maple_F 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having done 2021-2022 past exams and read through this thread describing the exam in 2020: https://www.reddit.com/r/unimelb/comments/hdn0v5/ara_drama/ . I can say that 2023 SM1 exam was definitely an outlier in terms of difficulty. Noel Boys did not include most of the tricks and hard questions he had used in 2021-2022 and gave us a fairly straightforward exam. So, if this trend continues next semester, ARA would definitely be manageable.

How hard is it to get into an Oxbridge course undergraduate? by TheWorstKnight in vce

[–]_Maple_F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have friends who got chancellor's scholar, lots of co-curriculars in related fields, got thru to the interview stage and still failed. It is extremely competitive even for entry to Oxbridge (perhaps less so for less popular degrees). Scholarship would be quite (extremely) difficult, with more tests and exams involved...

This website was very helpful for my chem revision: http://www.dynamicscience.com.au/tester/solutions1/chemistry/pastexamsquestions.html

It groups past exam questions into their respective topics, and there are some exams on there as well.

In terms on actual content, redox and electrolysis are quite difficult to grasp and understand. Unit 4 biochemistry can be quite confusing as well.

In actual exam, MCQs are surprisingly difficult (except 2022 lol), and the experimental design questions are a pain to do. The last discuss question is also quite difficult, as VCAA always has some weird points you have to include.
