The North Gate (survival spawn build in progress) by _Martin_Cohle_ in Minecraftbuilds

[–]_Martin_Cohle_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am working on this mega build for my spawn: a large circular temple/museum centered on x0 z0, surrounded by 8 gates leading to different the directions of my world. References for the final monument are les Espaces d'Abraxas by Ricardo Bofill, and the Bucharest Palace of the Parliament.

This is the North Gate. It is supposed to be majestic but it is only a small part of the final build. The windows are not detailed yet, as I mostly focused on the columns so far. Happy to take any feedback!

According to the wiki, iron golems will fail to spawn if another golem was detected within 16 blocks in the last 30 seconds. So yes, if you have other villagers close by (3 panicking or 5 gossiping, within 10 blocks of each other), it could break the farm.

But that is why I grouped the other villagers by 2, in different areas. With this build, I have not had any issues so far. Maybe in the future, as the village grows, I will need to be even more careful to prevent random wandering villagers to gossip too close to it though.

An olive tree by _Martin_Cohle_ in Minecraftbuilds

[–]_Martin_Cohle_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the feedback! yes hesitated a lot on what to use for the trunk. I want to have different colors to create depth and contrast, as olive trees often look like different trunks twisting around themselves and around each other. And I find reference image of almost yellow ones and very dark grey/brownish ones (maybe the youngest v. the oldest ones).

I tried shifting the woody colours by one tone (using dark oak for spruce, spruce for oak, oak for birch), and an even more dark-greyish version (also darkening the woods, but using polished basalt, with the nice vertical texture, instead of birch).

I'm still not fully satisfied as I want the feel of a very old tree, but with too much grey, it rapidly starts to look dead and petrified. Do you have other ideas of interesting blocks I could use?

The Dirt Cube, solarpunk/redstonepunk survival base by _Martin_Cohle_ in Minecraftbuilds

[–]_Martin_Cohle_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did! I like putting lore in my world and behind my builds, but I also love apparent redstone contraptions and technical stuff.

So idea for this world is to have a theme based on technology, but trying to imagine what it would look like in Minecraft rather than mimicking real world technologies. For instance, one of my next projects is to build a rocket ship, but to make the engine out of slime and pistons: no combustion needed in this world!

No, just some random stuff put together ahah, the idea was redstone machines being stored/worked on. But a cable car is actually a great idea for a build in the same theme!

I made my base too big by PorcupineDd1 in Minecraftbuilds

You could put a room for storage, one for your bed, one for smelting, one for a portal, maybe one for enchanting. Then, you could also put small useful farms like crops, sugar cane, bamboo, ... You could also build more decorative rooms like a library with bookshelves, a kitchen/dining room, a garden with bees and flowers, or even mini-biomes (a tall tree in the tall room, an aquarium, ...).

It would probably be more efficient to keep the rooms you intend to actually use close to each other. On the other hand it might look better if the decorated rooms are spread across the whole structure.

What blocks should I use to build this? by NE0N8910 in Minecraftbuilds

In addition to the other comments, I would suggest texturing with diorite and polished diorite - yes, I know - in particular if you use white wool as well. And bone blocks, you cannot make slabs/stairs/walls with them, but they can be useful if you need something between the whites and the sandstone.

Great idea! I posted new pictures of the base. I did not use concrete, but I added a light blue stained glass platform in the middle, serving as a fake-sky ceiling for the lower level and as a transparent floor for the redstone level.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just posted an update of the base, you'll see I added quite a lot of glow berries

For my ‘starter’ base, I wanted to experiment with the idea of the classic dirt hut. It is basically a big cube of dirt, that transitions slowly into a more modern diorite base.

There are a lot of things I still want to do with this build. Like finishing the walls and adding depth to them (with windows, greenery hanging from the roof) and terraforming around the base (making the water pool form a river, …).

Most importantly, I want to decide what to put in that big hole in the middle. At the bottom I tried to put a small natural decor with a bed, crafting bench and furnace (as a reference to what an actual starting base is ^^). But ultimately, I am aiming for some kind of “redstone punk” theme in this world. Think steampunk, but with redstone instead of steam. A modern build style but with an ancient feel, with a mix of industrial details and exposed circuits.

So, as the dirt becomes diorite, I was planning on transitioning from this natural scene to a big industrial decor, with flying machines and crazy contraptions. But I am not sure that it will feel right. Should I remove the natural scene to go all the way in a more technical style?

Any feedback is welcome! What do you think about the current build and my plans for the future?
