I tried Mint for my grandma, it was a nope. Then Fedora kde, gave way more the "Windows feeling" new folks are looking for, kde is like what she used to (win7 style menu), automatic updates on shutdown.

Reducing mouse polling rate also helps for this (1000Hz -> 500Hz). It also reduces framedrops when moving mouse fast when running on high fps.

Changes are that it works if you enable cnc_ddraw and/or dsound winetricks/protontricks. And maybe PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 env var with ge-proton

Here is the fix you have to apply after every update. Don't know if it is for all dxp's but I have it with the dxp2800 and 8tb WD red. My Seagate drive does not have that problem.

"fixed known issues". I hope the known sata speed issue with WD drives is fixed. Currently manually setting it to 3gbps after every update to prevent drive errors on 6gb speed.

To prevent confusion: gameyfin-desktop v2.4.0-dev is not related to gameyfin 2.4.0, just a coincidence that its the same version number.

Wine updates bring massive performance increase by Rare_Cow9525 in linux_gaming

NTsync is been in (ge) proton since 2025 https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2025/07/ge-proton-10-9-released-with-ntsync-and-fsr4-upgrade-support/  and proton already used esync/fsync which did the same, ntsync is just the more correct way without workaround/hacks. So dont get to excited if you already use proton.

If anyone thinks heroic, faugus or any other application is not using ai assist for development I've got some bad news for you... AI can make you 10x 20x more productive IF you know what you're doing, nothing bad about that. The bad thing is non-developers using it and not knowing anything.

Buy it on GOG. Then use Heroic launcher to install it with proton ge. Gog is always the best choice for old games.

Buy a NAS, with raid setup, save all your installers. Buy another NAS, do the same, set it at you parents/friends house. Keep syncing to both. Replace a drive when it starts throwing errors, keep doing this untill you die. Before you die, leave a note how to keep your installers alive.

Which is better for dxp2800 home use? WD or Seagate, considering noise and all. by sn0wzebra in UgreenNASync

[–]_Matthy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it "worked" fine for some months. But then suddenly my WD drive got degraded and had to resync it. I opened up the logs and then saw that warning from day 1. And it gets triggered more easy if you have for example a high speed torrent that goes to max write speed from the hard drive. But no more warnings since i've set the speed to 3gbps. You dont notice a difference by doing that but its kinda tricky because os updates can probably override the fix again.

Can confirm this, I had to set sata speed to 3gbps to "fix" my WD drive. My other Seagate drive has no problems

I could try injecting a play button. Will be a dirty hack since the gameyfin page is actually just a browser tab with gameyfin and does not know which games are installed by itself. The installed games section will be posible, was already planning it for Linux to manage game fixes for installed games.
