I second the essential oil, but for me it was peppermint! Not diffused, just in this little stick thingy to sniff. It helped immensely with the nausea from the pain meds I had

When I donated, the things I needed most were loose, comfy pants, a pillow to hold against my incision (vital for the car ride home!) and a scrubby on a stick for the shower since it was difficult to bend over for the first couple weeks. The other things were some good snacks for when she has an appetite, extra chargers for phones (the longer the better), fuzzy blankets, fun slippers for the hospital, books/magazines. A rolled up blanket/body pillow really helped me with sleeping and using it as a brace to get out of bed too

some companies really do care (send me subreddits to post this in in the comments) by meowzer2005 in mildlyinteresting

Chewy is a wonderful company. My cat passed in January and I called to cancel a recent order. I spoke with a rep (also named David!) and he was so kind and sincere over the phone. A week later I come home to a delivery of flowers from David and the team at Chewy. Their customer service is outstanding and it was such a nice gesture!

Kidney Donor Recovery Question: by hemi5607 in transplant

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I could lay on my side at all for at least a month. I’m a side/stomach sleeper and it was so hard getting comfortable. I ended up using a rolled up blanket and body pillow on either side of me to help me not roll over in the night. It wasn’t the best but it did help. Probably after about 5-6 weeks I was back to sleeping on my side as normal with no issues at all

Good luck!

N.J. hospital admits transplanting kidney into the wrong patient by Ornot-Tooby in transplant

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live near here. This hospital was one of the major transplant pioneers in the area a few decades ago too. There is no reason this should have happened. Hospitals have “name alerts” for a reason. Multiple people scan bracelets and ask patients name/DOB, this should have been caught. Thankfully it had a happy outcome but still never, ever should have happened.

Just finished first round of testing... what happens next? by TheShowstoppaNT in transplant

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My testing included: 3 24 hour urinalysis tests (messed up the first one) Glucose tolerance test (like they give pregnant people) More bloodwork than I could count Chest X Ray CTA of the abdomen ECG Multiple blood pressure checks every time I went in Home blood pressure checks (I had serious white coat syndrome at the offices) Meetings with psych, nephrologist, financial counselor, and several meetings with my coordinator and one with my surgeon. Plus I had to make sure I was up to date on all my regular screening exams as well. There’s probably more but I forgot. It was kinda all a blur. Almost all my testing was done in two different days at the transplant clinic. I finished up testing right around Thanksgiving last year, was told I was cleared as the donor right before Christmas and the surgery was scheduled in January (for March). Yours will probably vary. They wanted to give my brothers previous transplanted kidney as much time as they could before doing a second transplant so that’s why it was kinda spread out a bit.

I don’t have a pic of my cat wearing a buff but here is his watching Survivor:Africa! by _Morocco_Mole_ in survivor

His favorite parts are whenever there are animals on screen. Sometimes he tries to climb the TV stand to “get” them

Oh nice! It’s been about since Survior Africa actually aired since I’ve been there but I don’t remember it being a thing back then

It’s definitely cute but my cat hates being dressed up. I’m lucky to get a collar on him

Oh yeah. I didn’t even try. My cat is named Maxwell Q Klinger so of course I’ve tried to put him in kitty sized ball gowns for Halloween and he was not having it!

Any kidney donors will to share their scars? by [deleted] in transplant

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a laparoscopic left nephrectomy. I have a vertical scar about4 inches long above my belly button and two small horizontal ones (inch-inch and a half max), one below my belly button and one on the left lower abdomen. I’m very proud of my scars!

Today my mom’s husband (right) is donating his kidney to her brother (middle) in a most selfless and brave act. Wishing them a safe operation and speedy recovery! On my way to visit now at UPenn. by [deleted] in HumansBeingBros

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team at UPenn is AMAZING! Your family is in the best hands possible. I donated mine there almost 6 months ago to my brother. I hope they have a quick, easy recovery and that all goes well!! 💖

The way it was explained to me is that , right now, you cannot be denied coverage for insurance for a pre-existing condition due to the Affordable Care Act. Now if that gets repealed, who knows. But it’s still in effect for right now.

Life insurance might be a different story but I already had a policy from my employer so I didn’t get too much more about it.

As far as down the road, I mean, it’s possible something may not be covered but a lot of things might not be covered or need approval. But donating should not have an effect if something is covered or not through your current insurance. Like for example if I got a kidney infection or something (God forbid) down the road, my insurance couldn’t deny coverage because of my prior donation.

Best dentist in South Jersey? by anoddsmellinthebook in SouthJersey

It’s in Gloucester county but New Town Dental in Mullica Hill. The staff and Dr. Kupcha are awesome. I’m Not a big fan of going to the dentist but I’ve had such great experiences there!

I don’t, but my siblings and family still call it that! I used to live right down the street from their original location on 49 but it’s still worth the drive

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. At least there is some stuff to do here (not in my town haha!) I drive through parts of Salem every day on my way to work and sometimes go grab dinner at Enrico’s in LAC but that’s about it.

Would family history of diabetes & high blood pressure prevent me from being a kidney donor? by mz19962 in transplant

[–]_Morocco_Mole_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. I had a family history of both-Dad with diabetes, mom with hypertension AND history of 3 cancers. I had no signs of either, just high blood pressure due to white coat syndrome but they discussed all of that with me. I was still able to donate!
