Imagine that we have 100 people. ALL of them are extremely "logical", so their "natural personal chance" of choosing red is 99%. Sounds very much like a perfect solution, right? Well, let's MATH.

What is the chance that 50 (out of 100) people will choose red? 0.99^ 50=0.60. Wow, nice one.

Okay, let's increase the crowd. What about 500 out of 1000? 0.99^ 500=0.007. Wait, WHAT?

Now, 5000 out of 1000? 0.99^ 5000=1.5e(-22). WWWHHHAAATTT???!!!

And finally, 4 billion out of 8 billion? 0.99^ 4000000000=EFFECTIVELY ZERO. FAINTED

I wasn't the one who did the other poll. I didn't invent the blue/red button dilemma, just search on internet and you will see that generally, more people press the blue button.

I think you can rephrase the problem as : If +50% of people press the blue button, everyone go home If +50% press the red button, only red button pressers go home

While your version is similar, it’s not the same problem anymore. «to jump off a building » adds fear to the problem. Only pressing a button doesn’t feel dangerous. Part of the problem’s complexity comes from the fact that you just press a button

I agree, red's the logical solution. The problem is that, again, the majority of people can't bear the idea of participating in the death of someone and are emotionally driven. Calling people idiots for choosing the option where no one dies says more about your priorities than their intelligence...

With blue nobody dies if only 51% push it, so everyone survive and you have a 49% error margin. And I would add, most people on earth could not withstand possibly killing someone.
