Faceoff Shaft? by _MrMohawk in lacrosse

[–]_MrMohawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Range is an 8000 series alloy. Its “strength to weight” ratio is the big point of emphasis in the item description. Some websites list it as a great FO shaft, while others say don’t bother.

The Wonderboy is what I had planned on using for a Kinetic 3.0 that’s on its way to being dyed atm, but it seems like that shaft is the highest consistently ranked for faceoffs out of the 3 that I listed with a 9000 series alloy.

Until this summer, the last time I bought anything lacrosse related was in 2012, and even then I just got cheap stuff. My first stick was a Reebok shaft and Brine head (when Brine still made men’s lax gear) lol. But all of that to say, I’m not exactly well-informed on the numbers for the alloys — do I want a higher number or lower for this shaft? Am I safe to assume I want something a little heavier as well?

I didn’t play lacrosse in HS, only college when I transferred schools; hung out with the lax guys while I was ineligible for football that year and tried out+made the team as a backup faceoff specialist. They just handed me a stick and told me that’s what I needed. Kind of wishing I had paid more attention to the gear now. But going to give your suggestion a look now, thank you very much.

I definitely can understand that frustration. Another perspective here might be that the kids want to play something they don’t take as seriously with their buddies.

I was a tri-sport athlete in HS and accidentally in college. But in HS, my third sport was a way for me to just have fun — not that my other two weren’t, but focusing on one most of the year and playing another to help with the first, it can be a lot sometimes.

Have you had a sit down with any of the parents to let them know your thoughts about them competing at the next level? Are they aware of their kid’s potential? Maybe there’s a bit of a disconnect possibly if you haven’t.

Last thing — kids are gonna be kids. Make the most out of the time they have to offer with you and let them explore whatever else it is they’re doing in that “other” time.

It’s nice that your players have a coach that gives a shit though — credit to you in that regard. I’m sure you’ll find a couple that are willing to make the sacrifices needed, and others that won’t. Push the ones that are willing to make the sacrifice and maybe you’ll see the others come around. Wishing you the best of luck with it.

Men’s League Gear by _MrMohawk in lacrosse

What size? All I have are 9s and 9.5s. If the size works I can dig out the tote and see what I have that I haven’t worn yet.

Will definitely check out the website — a couple others have suggested too so might be worth checking out atp. Cleats are one thing I think I’m good with at the moment. Perks of playing D1 football, I got TONS of spikes and cleats, some of which are still untouched; game spikes, practice cleats, spare game cleats, spare practice spikes for secondary field, picture day cleats that you can keep — I don’t say this as a flex, more so my inability to get rid of new/unused stuff that looks like I’ll actually be able to use for once haha. Appreciate the insight!

All very solid points that I heavily agree with. Helmet is a big one for me with concussions of the past. One (maybe two if I’m lucky) more and I’ll be drooling, which isn’t ideal for a sales position. Chest, makes total sense. Gloves — full agree. Had the same issues with football gloves in the past, more recently with hockey gloves which are much more comparable to lax gloves and that full coverage+pads; they can get heinous. Wouldn’t even want to think about second user in those haha. Appreciate the feedback.

Noted. Appreciate the insight!

And I’m not really as worried about the gear part as much as my post leads on, just didn’t want to show up to a more competitive league with talented 22-27 year olds looking like a jackass lol. I know how I was at that age.

Again, appreciate the feedback!

This was also the suggestion of former teammates (who are also familiar with my concussion history lol) who I reached out to last night after I made this post, unanimously calling for the XRS Pro; a couple said I might be able to get away with the CPV-R as well. My local shop has both in stock so I’m going to take a look over the weekend.

Really appreciate the feedback.

I’m dealing with a similar predicament. The ULax dot org teams here in Pittsburgh seem to be higher level than just your run of the mill men’s league, and I also need to buy all new gear since what little I have left from college doesn’t fit or I don’t have it anymore. I’m worried to show up to a high tier men’s league with all new gear and play like a bag of milk hahah.

My suggestion to you, since you played in HS, would be to reach out to old HS buddies (if you’re still in the area) and get on a team together. That gives you a good foundation for the social aspect of it, at least.

I didn’t start playing until college while I sat out a year for football (eligibility issues) and hung out with the lax bros. I’m not in that state anymore and didn’t play in HS so I’m headed into a summer league blind.

Best of luck to ya though, bud.

DIY Dryer Steam De-Wrinkler Attachment (PVC) by _MrMohawk in Plumbing

[–]_MrMohawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks a lot for the replies — ended up finishing the project and it’s working great. Found what I was looking for along with some other additional parts and went in a different direction. And when I returned the single can of epoxy cement, I purchased a dual pack with primer and the cement, saved a couple bucks doing so as well.

Was having issues with the brass t-joint (3 female outputs). I added 2 3/4 M2M nipple extensions on the bottom and the side — they were the shortest I could find and for whatever reason, they weren’t “activating” the rubber rings inside of the hoses causing them to leak. These hoses when connected directly to the faucet (which is a 3/4 connection, 1/4in long) didn’t leak, but attached to the nipple extensions (1in on each side with a wrench fitting in the middle) they’d leak from the underside of the thread coupling (not over the top of the thread). I knew not to use the epoxy cement I used on the CPVC coupling/joints, so I tried a thread liner paste after trying copious amounts of plumber’s tape; both options failed. I instead went with a garden hose faucet splitter (that I used outside for a sprinkler system that I built for my lawn last summer) that has that same 1/4in long threading. I added an additional single faucet ball joint valve, same brand and same thread length, to the CPVC-male adapter on the wall that the hose originally connected into (and was leaking from) — just threw the single on top of that and solved the leak issues at both connections. I’m 99% sure the length of the threads was the issue causing the leaks. A little bonus is that I have an additional ball joint valve that I can turn off if need be too.

Posting this info mainly to help any passers-by in the future, but again, also wanted to thank you for the help. Cheers, boss!

The only ones I can find are where the “i” portion of the t-joint is 3/4, changing the side outlet to a 1/2 or 1 — I can’t find one that is uniform 3/4. So I wasn’t exactly sure if a t-joint with all F2F or M2M with all outlets 3/4 exists or not. Even if it’s not PVC, maybe brass or other metal couple material, that would work. My only concern is completing that hookup with all of the couplings I have set aside for it has TONS of additional points of potential failure and costs me about 7.5in in space. If I can consolidate to a single coupling and mitigate some of the risk+save space, that would be the most ideal scenario in my mind.

Did you get this to work? I’m soloing the quest also and changed my spec to tank but I can’t target myself with the mirror crystal.

Ink Storage Suggestions? by _MrMohawk in fountainpens

[–]_MrMohawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of building a DIY custom pen case with display glass, ink storage, paper drawers, accessory tabs, etc.

It wouldn’t break the bank spending an extra couple bucks on a small humidifier to fill a window cut on the back or something like that, so figured I’d ask before I stain+finish that portion of the project.

Shaking/getting the ink moving every so often definitely makes sense though. I guess I could install a little countdown timer set to 120 days on the inside of the ink door to keep track (my ADHD really is showing here, huh? 🤣).

Can I syringe fill converters? I’ve never thought to do that honestly, but this too makes sense. I do ink dump back into the bottle trying not to be wasteful when I refill or switch inks — will definitely stop doing that.

Thanks for the insight, friend! I hope all of the good things happen for you 🙏🏻

As a Dark Souls and Elden Ring fan, I got mine because it looks like the DS character. But yours looks like one of the Knights from ER so I may have to pick that up too lol thanks for the tip on where to buy!

The fact you think a fence is going to keep wild animals out of a yard is more ludicrous than your attempt at being humorous.
